Anica was born in Myrin, her family sending her down to The Zenith to train with one of their monastic orders. Most notably her focus was on how to use ki for healing purposes, channeling it into people to mend injuries and heal diseases. But of course she was also taught how to use it to defend herself, turning that healing energy into something destructive and damaging.

All things in balance, however, and by the time she was in her 30's she was sick of being part of a monastery. There was more to the world and she knew it, so she took off. For a time she served in the Tavnoin Army as a healer. There she picked up some other tricks, including spending time with a swarmkeeper ranger. In return for her healing services the human showed her how to become a swarmkeeper too, Anica's inherent powers manifesting into a swarm of fungal spores that often stuck to her skin in interesting patterns when not otherwise engaged.

What the two of them had might have been love, but then then ranger died while he was out on patrol with some others. Anica couldn't save him, and she cursed herself for ever thinking that she could have love with one not of her own race. The extended lifespan of elves compared to others just made that too difficult, it would be too much heartbreak. So Anica quit the army and returned home to Myrin, but she missed the structure of army life. Joining the city guard was the easiest way to get that back, but with her skills and background it didn't take long for her to get noticed and get promoted. Before she hit 100 years old Anica was head of the guard in Myrin, openly refusing to join the Myrin military and instead doing everything she could to make use of her position to make the city better.

Even when Irving Santis passed and his daughter Muriel Santis took over, Anica has maintained her post. Muriel sees no reason to deny the elf her post since she's so good at it, putting faith in the elf to keep the city running smoothly.
