I was a little taken a back when Nathan hugged me but he quickly let go. “I met Blake’s adopted daughter, she helped me find you guys.”
I was a little taken a back when Nathan hugged me but he quickly let go. “I met Blake’s adopted daughter, she helped me find you guys.”
"Adopted daughter? Freakish." Luke's tone was light, but you noticed that he seemed tense somehow, and you looked down to see that his arm was red with blood, although he tried to hide it. "Where's Crash? We should get out of here while we can."
I shook my head, tears already forming in my eyes. “Luke, h… he’s gone,” I turned my back to them. “It’s all my fault.” I whispered.
"Gone?" Luke's voice turned sharp. "What do you mean? What happened, Maddie?"
Nathan stumbled back. "Oh my god. We were too slow." He blinked dazedly but rapidly shook himself out of it. "We'll have time to grieve once we're out of here. We have to leave now," he said quietly.
Luke stepped forward suddenly and hugged Maddie, fiercely. "I'm sorry Mads. We should have come sooner." Turning grimly to Nathan, he nodded. "You're right. Let's just get out."
I hugged myself, “I asked Blake if he could train us, as a distraction for you both to get in. Crash faced up against one of Blake’s minions and as he was about to win, she shot him. I was tapped behind a wall of glass and couldn’t do anything. Blake wouldn’t even let me say goodbye.” I still kept my back to the boys.
Nathan looked around. "That guy'll probably be back with backup, and probably with an angry Vin. We have to find the most discreet way out of here." He looked back to Maddie and put a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Let's get you out of here."
I nodded
"I think I saw a staircase leading to the ground floor a little ways back," Luke said. "We'll have to be sneaky to get through the main hall though."
“The shadow spirits will be wandering around, and if I get caught, Blake has made it very clear that I’ll end up with some more scars. I don’t know if it will be possible.”
"Any better ideas? You can control darkness, is there some way you could….I don't know, make us invisible or something?"
“Not that I know of. The spirits have the same control over darkness as me, they’d see you instantly.” I hung my head but then had an idea. “We could teleport?”
Luke frowned. "Teleport, huh? That might work. You can do that?"
I nodded. “I haven’t done it with multiple people before though, and only short distances.”
"Well, it might be our best bet. I'm willing to give it a shot if you guys are."
(P.S. is it okay if something happens that stops them the first time they try?)
(Yeah, that’s ok)
I nodded, “I’ll try, if it means getting outta here.”
"Okay. Let us know what you need us to do."
“Just hold on tight.” The boys did as they were told and grabbed my shoulders. I’d never done this with multiple people so hopefully it would work. I pictured the hideout in my mind and soon began to feel a slight buzz.
Nathan kept his eyes shut, gripping Maddie's shoulder tightly.
(One second, brb)
(Ok, let's see here)
The darkness enfolded you easily enough, and the others followed you, floating in the nothingness. You (I assume) carefully visualized the street outside the building, and moved towards it. It glowed in your mind, getting closer and closer–
And then, with a sudden impact and a sound like a giant bell, you were thrown back. For a second you saw the house, and it's great purplish shield, flexing and swaying where you'd hit it. You fell onto a rough, solid carpet, and the others fell with you.
"An excellent attempt, Maddie," came Blake's smooth voice. "But not good enough. You've been giving me quite the headache, young lady."
I hissed. I’d hit my leg on something sharp when I had landed. “Let us go, Blake. Surely there are other people out there you could use instead of me?” I tried to stand but when I did, I collapsed, sending a jolt of pain up my leg.
"Yes. But not to the same effect." Blake spoke in a rather bored voice, he studied his laced fingers instead of looking at you. "You must understand, Maddie. There is no escape. And now you've gone and trapped you poor friends in here with you. A shame really, but I suppose I can find some use for them."
"Mads." Luke touched your shoulder. "Don't listen to him, okay? We're gonna be fine."
I was torn. I didn’t know what to believe. I looked at Luke, then back at Blake. I placed my hand on top of Luke’s. “Why? Why do this?”
