He leaned back all the way, staring tiredly at the ceiling. After a minute, his eyes slid over to Crash and Nathan. "Hey, guys. Something sure smells good in here."
Crash was busy barricading the entrance. "It's stew. Maddie made it. What's wrong with you?"
"Like I said," Luke replied, "I'm fine. I got into the big wig's office mansion."
I pushed past Crash and grabbed some bandages. “Roll up you pants. I’m helping your leg” I said
"If you think you have to." Luke obeyed, slipping off his shoe and sock as well. His lower leg was covered in nasty black bruises which looked almost like ink under his skin. You could just make out a set of marks like finger prints on his ankle.
"The stupid thing burned me or something," Luke remarked. "Feels like ice, though. Hope it's not poisonous."
I sent some of my darkness into his body to search and heal any damage on the inside when I bandaged the outside. “So.. care to tell us what you did?” I asked
"Sure. I went out to gather info on this Blake guy and his henchmen. Got to his HQ pretty easy, and the guy at the front desk seemed to be expecting me. I had a little chat with Blake." He shook his head, suddenly serious. "Maddie, listen. I've heard of this guy before, and he ain't on our level. I'm pretty sure we're dealing with a god."
I stopped dead. “A… a god?” I questioned. I looked at him slowly “Luke.. are you on..one hun..hundred and 15 percent sure?” My voice wavered a little
He gave you a grim smile. "Hundred and five, at least. Luckily, he seems to be an easygoing, cheerful god. He saw right though me when I pretended to sell you out, though. I had to leave pretty quick." He examined his hands, studying the gritty black stains on his knuckles. "On the bright side, his cronies aren't invincible. I didn't kill that one all the way because if they die, they just come back. I don't wanting him tattling about our hideout, so I broke his back so he couldn't move."
“Oh.. ok” I stammered. “can you just give me a moment please” I left to my room to process what happened
(I have to go to bed now, see ya some time tomorrow) You heard low conversation from the boys and a clank as Luke helped himself to some stew. They settled down and ate in silence together while you were gone, which was a relief.
(Ive go to go to. See ya tomorrow x)
I paced back and forth in my room, there wasn’t any noise coming from the main room. I sunk out of my room and found my ladder. I crept up the ladder and through some tunnels until i made it to an out grove high in the mountain I found a while ago. I swung my legs over the side and started to watch the sun set.
(do you have an idea or do you want me to pitch in)
(You can pitch in, come find Maddie or somthing I don’t know)
(Ok)
After a while, you heard a slight sound behind you and looked over to see Luke. He'd cleaned up a bit and found a shirt somewhere that wasn't stained with blood. Overall he looked much better. "Hey," he said quietly. "How ya doin'?"
“ Fine. Just thinking” i felt Luke come and sit over the edge with me. The sunset was magnificent. I breathed deeply
He watched it with you. "Sorry to be the bearer of bad news back there. I hope you know that I think we still have a chance against Blake."
“It’s not your fault Luke. I thought if i came here I would be happy, safe even, but it looks like that can’t be true” I looked down. It was a far drop. “If I hadn’t met you, you wouldn’t be in this mess”
He leaned over and gently put his arm around you, slightly to your surprise. "Maddie, I've always been in a mess. At least this mess is for a good cause. If you need help, if you want to feel safe, I will always try and give that to you. I promise."
I looked at him, and placed my hand on his check “promise?” I sed a tear
He smiled at you. "Yes. But you have to promise me something in return, okay?"
"Know that you are an amazing, beautiful, irreplaceable person. And don't ever forget it." He looked you in the eye. "Because nobody can take that away from you."
“Luke.. I” I couldn’t get the words out
He laughed a little and looked away. "It's fine. Sorry if that's too demanding. I just want you to know how wonderful you are, you know? Too many people in the world don't think they're good enough, and I don't want you to be one of those people."
“Luke” a made him look at me “thank you. Thank you so much”
