There aren't a lot of FWBs in books, now that I think about it

@HighPockets group

I'm trying to decide if one of the couples in a story should be a romantic couple or just FWB

what's their dynamic

One is a charismatic guy that has like 10 different personalities he rotates through depending on who he's talking to because he acts cocky but is pretty insecure, and the other is a hyper and energetic girl who has like no impulse control.

(first of all the guy is a huge mood)
make them a couple but make it slow-burn

Another issue I keep running into is that Stephen (the guy) spends a lot more time with Leah (the girl's friend) as a BrOTP since they're working together. I'm also not sure if Izzy (the girl) is quite ready to handle a romance, since she has some issues.
And currently they both die at the end, but I might change that.

FWB for sure. but leave it open to reader interpretation if they have more feelings for each other

ok i changed my answer go w that

Okay so I’m writing a book that has a teen target audience and a huge part of the MCs character arc is his sexuality. For most of the book he’s expressed a fear of sex and it isn’t until near the end that he’s able to trust his partner enough to have sex with him, which is a huge step for the MC. However, because of the target audience, I’m not sure how to write sexual things without going too far. I don’t want to go into complete detail but I also don’t want to be too vague, what should I do?

@HighPockets group

K so in most YA books, the type of sex used is either fade-to-black or emotional.
Fade-to-black would show them going into the bedroom together and might have them discussing the act (obviously consenting, if it's a m/f couple then discussing what type of birth control, etc.)
Emotional sex focuses on the feelings moreso than the act ("He felt a new sense of love for LI, felt closer to him than ever before in that moment" maybe, idk I'm not good at this lol)

If this is for Trigger Warning, have you considered categorizing it as NA, due to the other factors? If so, NA allows for more sexy times that YA shouldn't

@hollow-boned

what i usually do in fade-to-black is make someone do a single action that implies sexual stuff (his hands crept lower) and say something that implies sexual stuff and then end chapter/ cut to different scene

Yeah it’s for trigger warning. But idk what NA is

"new adult"

It's really up to you how much you want to show. If it is big to the MC's character I do think that you should not do a fade to black. That would rob your readers of a climax (HA THAT PUN THO) that they have been waiting for while reading. It can be a short and sweet scene, but I do think that there should be one.

@RedTheLoveless

Hey so um sex in my series is actually seen as super casual, except to the MC, who is a prince who has been sheltered his entire life until finally leaving to see the world for himself.

So… at two different points, he accidentally walks in on an orgy and someone masturbating. I need to realistically write how both parties would react so um… help?
