*TIMESKIP TO A COUPLE DAYS BEFORE THE DANCE *
"I really want to ask him Vince," Mari whispered, glancing over at Kelton. "I really really do. But what if he says no? What if he already has a date? What if he accepts only out of pity that I have no one else to go with? I couldn't live with that," She groaned, burying her head in her arms. "Help me."
(Sounds good to me)
Vincent sighed "Well you see Mari, he actually does like you but he only knows when you're wearing a cool costume and fight bad guy's with him." He sad mentally but not out loud, "Well in this situation you could ask him as a friend then he wouldn't be going out of pity, you would get to go with him and it will hurt less if he say's no." Is what he said instead.
"But I don't want to go just as friends," Mari cried softly, trying to keep her voice down. "I want to actually go to the dance with him. I want him to go because he wants to go with me, and not because he feels obligated as my friend. Vince I really really lov-like him, and I don't know if I can handle just friends." Mentally she cursed herself for making that slip. She hated not being able to say she loved him, she did, she really really did, but she couldn't say it. Not yet.
Vincent blinked, he had caught the slip, but chose not to say anything for now, "Mari, just ask him, seriously say exactly this, 'Kelton, will you come with me to the dance.' I promise he'll say yes." Vincent naturally could promise that that would work,it was what his power said would work, it was vague enough for Kelton to make the decision if it was as a friend or as something more and knowing Kelton's obliviousness he would naturally think it was as friends and say yes. The other way his power said it would work was if she transformed into Nova right in front of him and then asked, either way worked.
"But how do you know that?" Mari was near tears, which was unlike her. "If I ask and he says no, I don't know what I'll do. I know this might be selfish, forcing him into something he might not want, but I want him to like me. I mean, really like me. His friendship means everything, but I want more than that!" She paused, a few tears slipping out. Hastily wiping them away, she continued softly, "I'm sorry Vince. I'm being childish and selfish. If he doesn't want more than friends," she took a deep breath before forcing out her next few words, "we're just friends."
Vincent gently patted her back, "Trust me when I say you're relationship with him is far from simple from both perspectives, also trust me when I say it'll work, I'm a genius remember, I know these things, and there's definitely a posse of girls hiding behind that book shelf behind me isn't there." he said in the same level toned voice, doing his best not to sprint from the room before getting asked to the dance, "Mari, you've got this but I'm being cornered the library is no longer safe."
Mari was able to wipe away the rest of her tears, and even slightly laugh at his situation. "Thanks Vince. I don't know what I'd do without you. Your advice always helps, I don't know how you do it."
He winked, "It's a super power, Now if you don't mind I'm going to move this study group else where, Kelton!" He said raising his voice slightly, "We are relocating!"
Gaining some of her teasing self back, Mari added, "Yeah K, we gotta get out of here before, god forbid, Vincent gets asked to the dance!"
"Hey! You know I hate telling them no, but I also can't get any of their hopes up." Vincent said standing up, "The solution is to avoid being asked."
Kelton turned and laughed at his two friends going back and forth. "Okay, I'll come with. And Vince, you know they can't resist you," he joked. Then he clicked his tongue. "I don't know why you act all surprised."
Vincent smoothly pivoted on his heals to face Kelton, "If I act surprised it's because I'm not used to attention, let us go!" He pivoted again and faced the emergency exit, "This a way." he smoothly and briskly walked over to the door and pushed it open, the door lead to a flight of stairs that lead straight to the roof, He flashed his school ID at the librarian before beckoning for his friends to fallow.
Mari gathered her stuff and bounded after him, mood much restored after her chat with Vince. She breathed in deeply as the cool air hit her skin, and slowly spun in a circle, arms wide. “Now this is nice! No annoying people bothering us up here!”
"Yep, no crazed fans following Vince around," he agreed. "So, are any of us going to the dance this year? Or are we just hanging at my house like last year?"
“Um…” Mari glanced over at Vince nervously. She needed support now more than ever. “Actually I’ve been meaning to talk to you about that K.” She trailed off nervously, butterflies exploding in her stomach. “Would you… I mean, do you want to….” she couldn’t force the words out. She couldn’t, she couldn’t do it.
Kelton, completely confused by Mari's sudden change in composure, widened his eyes in concern for her. "Yeah? What did you want to talk about?"
Vincent Gave Mari a thumbs up from behind Ketlon and mouthed, You've got this.
Mari swallowed hard, eyes flickering between Kelton and Vince. She wanted to say it, wanted to so badly. But her stupid mouth wouldn't cooperate. Finally, she took a deep breath, told herself it was just like ripping off a bandage, and said it. "Will you… I mean… do you want to go to the dance with me?" The last part she said very quickly, and she held her breath, waiting for him to respond.
(Please don't die on me we're just getting to the good part. I don't know what's going on in your lives and I apologize if there's something bad because I really don't want to be pushy, but I love this rp and I don't want it to die, especially now that Mari's finally gonna get some heartbreak ;) )
(Hi I’m so sorry i don’t have a personal computer yet and I usually don’t come on my phone so I mostly respond on weekdays just fyi)
“Sure, we could all go together! Honestly I don’t know why you seem nervous,” he smiled a genuine smile and put a hand on her shoulder. “If you want to go to the dance, then I’m you friend. I have to go with you.”
(Oh no it's totally okay I had no idea! Sorry for seeming like i was forcing you)
Mari's heart stopped. The butterflies vanished, leaving only a raw numbness that filled her up and made it almost impossible to breathe. "Right! O-of course! Friends…" Her voice stopped working and tears started to gather the longer the silence stretched on. Finally she choked out, "I have to go, I'll see you guys later!" before whirling around and rushing back into the building.
Stupid, stupid, stupid, she scolded herself. Why did she ever think he would like her? Why did she ever think he would see her as more than a friend? Tears blurred her vision as she ran, looking for a spot where she could be alone.
