Vaughn’s jaw clenched slightly, but his shoulders relaxed. He was slightly greatful for Dylan’s response, in that moment.

@Mr.Misfit

Dylan read the feed he was getting from the ship's "Computer." It put him about half the way there, maybe a little less. That, and there was a breeze picking up. No changes in the numbers yet, but it was getting there.

"We've got a little bit more, in the sense that we have roughly a day of travel? Maybe two, if the wind comes to bear. The unfortunate part of making shadows solid is they act like it."

@Mr.Misfit

Dylan nodded his affirmation, "So in the meantime, we ought to be at least pretending to be productive…"

@Mr.Misfit

"In my cabin, I'll go nab it really quick." said Dylan. He kicked open the hatch and went down, leaving the two of them alone for a little bit.

Avery let out a heavy sigh and walked over to the railing. She looked out across the deep-blue water for a moment, then turned back around to face Vaughn. Resting her back against the rails, she took a deep breath and looked down at her hands.

Speaking quietly, she said, "Yeah. Yeah, I do like him, okay? But I just–" She took another deep breath before starting again, "My last boyfriend ended up being a supervillain. He didn't (and still doesn't) know that I'm Aspect, but I found out who he was. And he killed my parents. I mean, technically, that was an accident, and he told me he would change it if he could go back in time, but I just couldn't take that. And that's why I haven't said anything about my feelings to Dylan. 'Cause I don't wanna be heartbroken again…"

Vaughn nodded slowly as he considered what Avery said. “Listen.. You aren’t allowed to tell him I said this, but Dylan seems like a good guy. I don’t know him well, and I don’t know you that well either. But you both seem like good people. And I’ve observed some intimate looks shared between the two of you. I know the look, I’ve been in relationships before.”

Avery blushed and looked back over the water.

"Um… Thanks, I guess? I wonder what's taking Dylan so long?" she asked, changing the somewhat uncomfortable topic.

Vaughn looked away as well, tilting his head up towards the sky. It happened again. That was his argument with Veronica. He was either too emotionless and cold, or he talked his mouth off. “Maybe he can’t find it,” he suggested, expression set in stone again.

"Hm. Maybe," Avery agreed, nodding. A sudden wave of dizziness washed over her, making her vision tilt. "I've gotta sit down," she mumbled, doing just that.

Avery closed her eyes and pulled her knees up to her chest, putting her head between them in hopes that it would help make her dizziness go away. She took a few deep breaths, and, after a few minutes, she felt a bit better.

Dylan put his hands on the bulkhead, and they went straight through. His feet began to meld with the floor, and suddenly he could feel the footsteps above him. It was all unsettling. And he was having the same problems. Suddenly the lights seemed way too bright, the waves outside too loud. And Avery… he could hear her, but he couldn't understand.

He had been right in front of his cabin door when this started. Just a small light-headed feeling that he almost mistook for seasickness. It only took himself a second to remember that he wasn't seasick. He had reached out to the wall in an attempt to stabilize himself, and his hands fell through the well. And now he was sinking slowly into his own ship.

He shouted, the panic in his voice twisitng and warping it. When he cried out, the whole ship cried out with him. Dylan began to cry, wishing for Avery to come and make it stop.

Avery felt herself sinking through the deck and her head immediately shot up.

Screw this headache, where's Dylan? she wondered, standing up slowly.

"Dylan?!?" she called, carefully making her way down. "Where are you? What's going on?"

@Mr.Misfit

All Dylan could do was cry. Through the tears, he could see his hands melding into the ship. He felt the water lapping at the bottom of the ship like it was at his legs. It was a startling stream of information that overran his thought processes.

"Dylan?!? Where are you? What's going on?"

He stopped sinking. He couldn't pull himself free, but he wasn't getting anyworse. He could think, if only a little more.

"Avery?" He tried. His voice was weak, and seemed to resound throughout the ship. The light of outside still closed on him, and each footfall was deafening, but it still helped, hearing Avery.

Avery heard her name, though soft, and headed in the direction she thought it was coming from. Thinking quickly, she shapeshifted into a wolf, knowing that it would give her heightened senses so that she could find Dylan easier.

"I'm on my way over there!" she said as she listened attentively.

Two heartbeats pounded in her ears, one Dylan's, the other Vaughn's. Dylan's would be the closer one, so she followed that one. Eventually, she found him, and she quickly changed back.

"Oh my gosh," she whispered when she saw him. "What can I do? How can I help you?"

@Mr.Misfit

Dylan gestured for her to come closer with his free hand. As she stepped up, the lights backed away, and the sounds became cleaner, more concise and quiet. He held out his hand, willing her to take it. He needed an anchor, something to keep him grounded to humanity. It seemed that she was as close as he was coming to having that.

"Hold," he whispered as she came, "I need… to hold… something real."
