Avery looked up at the sound of a voice. Vaughn was standing in front of one of the cabins. She shook her head.
"No," she grumbled, reaching her cabin door. "Seasick."
Avery looked up at the sound of a voice. Vaughn was standing in front of one of the cabins. She shook her head.
"No," she grumbled, reaching her cabin door. "Seasick."
“I may have medicine that could help,” Vaughn suggested, arms folded across his chest.
“Sister would get sick too when out on the water, so I’ve learned to carry medicine with me when going on boats,” he continued, jaw clenched tightly.
"Is it over-the-counter or prescription? 'Cause I don't take other people's prescription drugs," Avery muttered, her stomach starting to hurt again.
Vaughn shook his head. “No, not prescription,”he responded.
Avery stuck her hand out. "Please. I'm sick of being sick."
“I’ll go find it,” Vaughn responded, going back into his cabin.
Avery leaned back against her cabin door, her arms crossed over her stomach, while she waited for Vaughn to return with the meds.
Stupid seasickness.
A few minutes later, Vaughn walked to Avery’s cabin, knocking softly on the door. “I have the medicine..”
Grabbing a water bottle from the floor next to her bed, Avery opened the door. She held out her hand for the medicine.
"Thanks."
Vaughn handed it to her, frowning softly. “Feel better,” he murmured, heading back down the hall.
Avery walked back into her cabin and poured a couple of pills into her hand. Sitting on her bed, she opened the water bottle and chased the pills down with a drink of water. She changed into more normal-looking clothes and laid back on the bed, her dizziness and stomach pain already starting to fade.
Vaughn stepped out onto deck, feeling relaxed when the fresh air filled his lungs. He hadn’t felt this decent in a while.
Dylan heard the door belowdecks open, and could tell from the weight of the footsteps that it was Vaughn. He smiled and stood, dispelling the balcony as he stepped back onto the true deck.
"Morning, Vaughn. Sleep well?"
Vaughn looked in Dylan’s direction, giving a nod. “Very well. And you?” He asked, remembering Veronica’s advice to “be polite and play nice”.
"Doing fine, thanks! Is Avery doing okay? I heard her hurlin' overboard…"
Vaughn nodded, running a hand through his hair. “I gave her some medicine, so she should feel better..” he responded.
Avery slept for a few minutes, and by the times she woke up, her stomach didn't hurt anymore. She decided to go back up and see how their progress was coming, running her fingers through her hair a few times to tame it before she left her cabin.
When she arrived on deck, she noticed Dylan and Vaughn talking.
"Hey, guys," she greeted them with a nod.
Avery came up from the below decks hatch. Dylan smiled and waved, "Heya, Avery. Feeling alright?"
Vaughn acknowledged Avery with a nod, keeping quiet while they spoke with each other.
"Much better, thanks," Avery replied. "Thanks for the medicine, Vaughn."
Vaughn gave a hum in response, the corners of his lips twitching up into a faint smile for a quick second before going away.
Avery caught the quick smile and grinned.
"Was that an almost smile?" she asked teasingly. Turning to Dylan, she exclaimed, "I think Mr. Stoic here almost smiled!"
Vaughn rolled his eyes and slowly shook his head. “Emphasis on almost. I don’t know what you’re talking about. Maybe the medicine is making you see things,” he responded. He felt the urge to laugh bubbling up inside his chest, but he kept it back.
"Mm-hm. Okay, Vaughn. Whatever you say," Avery replied disbelievingly. "Anyway, how's our progress? How much longer until we dock?"
"Alright, give the poor man some space." Dylan nodded to Vauhgn, hoping he understood the sign of respect, "We'll see him smile when we're back on land, I'm sure."
Dylan checked the program in his head, and ran with it. The ship slowed as he observed through. Finding nothing wrong, he let the ship speed back on it's way, and opened his eyes again.
