As a bear, he wasn't fast enough to get to them before their guns went off, but he has the reach to hit them while having to move very little, and the strength to tend it in one swipe, he caved one of their heads.

She charged at an automaton that was about to pounce on Spyke. In one swift motion, an illusion of it's legs no longer working and it's metal melting sent the automaton toppling to the ground. She stabbed her dagger into it's chip.
One of them pounced on him, attempting to punch him repeatedly. With the thick fur, sheer size, and layers of fat he now had. It was nothing, he reached behind his head and threw it off of himself, it shattered on a wall.
An automaton growled at Lucille, then charged. Lucille wasn’t sure what she did, but the automaton laid limp on the floor, Lucille grinned proudly.
Spyke roared, barreling at one of them, before it could pounce, he simply laid on it, hard, crushing it with his weight, he rolled over avoiding gunshots, and swept the head off of the one that was shooting, before it could reach his friends.
All around them, the automatons were now either ripped apart or had daggers sticking out of them.
Romping around, Spyke looked at everyone. He was covered in grease, he shifted into a Doberman.
She slumped to the ground, clutching her head that was now pounding. All of the illusions had taken it's toll on her.
Spyke walked over to Riann, and sat by her, comforting her wordlessly, he whimpered a thin whine.
“Well now we know… if there’s anymore automatons, go for the chip.” Lucille said.
She pet the dog's muzzle and gave it a faint smile. Her amber eyes looked faded
A strange squishing sound went on inside Spyke's throat. "Unless you have the power to do otherwise!" He said.
“Riann, what hurts?” Lucille asked.
"Yeah did you see-" Riann was cut off by the throbbing pain in her head. Illusions spun out of her control and flashed throughout the warehouse. She started again. "Did you see what you did out there? It was amazing."
“Yep, amazing.”
"Everything. . ." She laughed weakly. She turned her gaze towards Spyke. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah." He said, "Thanks, you too."
Spyke nudged her limbs, and threw her over his back.
"Let's get you somewhere safe, yeah?"
Katie stared down at the group huddled together. "What just happened." She hadn't even known what she was doing.
“Would aspirin help?”
"Possibly. . ." She glanced towards Spyke and held on to them. "Thanks again."
Katie followed everyone out. "You guys were incredible. She stroked Riann's head and smiled.
Lucille dug in her bag and handed Riann the bottle.
"Maybe I should slip into a bigger form, so things can run more smoothly, eh?" He said sincerely worried for her.
"How many of them were there?" she thought aloud.
