"It's really fine. I would love to have you," Beau answered, a slight smile playing on his lips as he looked up towards Vien and leaned against the elevator wall. There was plenty of space at his house anyways since it was just Lucky and him.
“I just…I’d hate to be a b-burden is all,” Vien mumbled, the rickety old elevator lurching as it began to descend. He supposed he could always get a job to help out, or contact his old boss
"You won't be a burden, don't worry. Lucky is enough of a burden on his own," Beau answered gently, trying for a small joke to lighten the mood. He assumed that he could make Lucky get a job since it would help around the house, especially since Beau was already trying to keep up with his own jobs and school work.
“Yeah, but…” Vien tried to protest, but he couldn’t seem to come up with anything. He made a mental note to try and contact his old employer sometime that night. He would at least be able to help out a little if he got a few jobs
"It'll be fun," Beau answered, drawing out the last word as if he were trying to emphasive his words. A small grin made its way to his face as he nudged Vien a little, pressing a quick peck to his lips.
Vien let a little laugh escape him at Beau's words. "I suppose you're r-right. I just hope your brother doesn't mind me," he said, wrapping an arm around Beau's waist as the elevator finally slowed to a stop
"He won't mind," Beau mumbled as he leaned against Vien, glancing over at the metal doors once the elevator slowed. He gave him a slight smile as he began towards the door, taking Vien's hand in his own for a few moments.
Vien smiled softly as Beau took his hand, walking out the elevator with him and out of the apartment. He began to make his way towards the bus stop, still smiling as he walked
Beau grinned brightly and looked over at Vien, glad that he was going to be staying at his house even if it meant that they would have to leave their foster parents behind. He knew that Vien didn't have a great life there, but Beau still felt a few pangs of guilt for turning Vien's parents against them. He felt a small frown trace his lips, but he quickly replaced it with a faint smile.
Vien cracked a small smile as the bus pulled up just as they were getting to the bus stop. "Well look at that. Maybe t-that's a good sign," he said, turning to smile at Beau
"We could use some luck," Beau agreed, chuckling lightly as he glanced towards Vien, beginning to make his way up the stairs on the bus. He fished out a few cents from his jacket, managing to pay for both of them as he moved towards a seat near the back.
"Now if only we could get l-lucky all the time," Vien chuckled, sitting down next to Beau. He leaned his head on the other boy's shoulder a bit, making sure his duffel bag and satchel were safely around his shoulder
"Then we can just throw a few pennies in a fountain and hope for the best," Beau answered, a faint smile crossing his lips as he took Vien's hand in his own, glad that their was barely anyone on the bus.
"Yep. Might throw a whole w-wallet in there just to make sure," Vien laughed, giving Beau's hand a small squeeze. He liked that he was able to display some sort of affection in public, even if it was as simple as hiding their hands on a bus
Beau laughed, a small grin spreading across his face as he leaned against Vien faintly, glad that he was near them. "Lots of praying wouldn't be a bad idea either," He added as he glanced up at Vien, a dorky smile on his face.
"You aren't wrong," Vien said, mirroring Beau's smile happily. He tapped the other boy's nose, laughing a little as he did so. He glanced out the window, suddenly realizing that they were almost at Beau's stop. He waited for the bus to slow before standing, letting go of Beau's hand for a moment so he could walk out
Beau laughed a bit as he got up after Vien, making his way down the stairs slowly in order to not jostle his ribs too much. He led Vien towards his old house down the street, pushing the rusted gate open and beginning to step up onto the porch. There were a few calls and laughing from inside as Beau pushed the rickety door open, peering inside at the three people in the living room.
"Cal. Walker. I'm starting to think that you guys live at my house more than your own," Beau called out, chuckling a bit as he walked in. His brother and the two were huddled on the couch, empty bottles of beer laying around them as they watched an old tape.
"Yeah, yeah. Where have you been, Teller?" The older, dark-haired boy answered, glancing up for a few moments from the screen. Lucky looked up as well, focusing his gaze on Vien for a few moments. Beau looked strangely similar to him, except for that his brother had hazel eyes.
"At my house. We were g-grabbing pizza," Vien said, gesturing with the pizza box still in one hand. He glanced over at Beau, wishing he could give him some sort of thumbs up or something to assure him they'd be fine
"Beau has friends? Since when?" Walker spoke up, ruffling Beau's white-blonde hair as he walked past, grabbing a beer from a pack and tossing one to Cal on the couch. Lucky continued to watch Vien in an almost cautious way before he glanced back down, suddenly finding interest in his bottle.
"Yeah, I've got some friends, surprisingly. What have you guys been doing here this whole time?" Beau asked as he glanced over at Vien, a small smile on his face as he nodded to reassure him as well.
"Well, Lucky got a new girlfriend and Cal probably lost his," Walker answered, shrugging a bit as he plopped down on the couch again as the dark-haired boy punched him in the shoulder playfully. The two older Greasers had always been there for Lucky and Beau so they were almost like their family in a way.
Vien chose not to comment, instead setting the pizza down on one of the tables before turning to Beau. "Is there somewhere I can put my s-stuff?" he asked Beau, gesturing to his duffel bag
"Yeah, you can put it in my room I'll show you to it," Beau answered, rubbing his sides a bit as he ignored Lucky's hard look. His brother had never been the 'open' type to new people, so he would have to convince him later. Cal and Walker began to shout incoherent things at the television as Beau nodded towards the hallway, motioning for Vien to follow after him.
Vien followed after Beau, feeling a little self-conscious under Lucky's gaze. He honestly hoped that Beau's brother would eventually warm up to him. He adjusted his bags, making sure for what seemed like the hundredth time that they were all there
"Sorry about my brother. He's never been quite the same since our parents…left." Beau mumbled, feeling a bit odd for mentioning anything about his family. After a few moments, he opened the door to his room. There were two rickety beds and only a few possessions strewn across; photographs, books and a few packs of cigarettes.
"It's okay, I u-understand," Vien assured him. He took in the room for a few moments, rubbing at the back of his neck absently. "Do I…get a bed?" he asked slowly, not knowing if one of the beds was Lucky's or not. He didn't mind either way, really. He had slept on park benches and floors for years before
"Yeah, we've got another one anyways," Beau answered, smiling a bit as he motioned towards the one on the right as he kneeled down and picked up a few things off the ground. There were close to a dozen different novels on the ground as he carefully placed them on a shelf. Most of the Greasers made of fun of his small reading obsession, but Beau hadn't stopped.
