「 Slender and well-composed is probably the first impression most get out of Marius. He's quite peculiar about presentation. Unfortunately, his reputation tends to proceed him; or rather enhance his character. Always upright, with impeccable posture, the man stands at a height of 5'11 but his build isn't exactly intimidating. He's actually quite willowy with a set of lengthy limbs. A pale complexion gives away the fact that he's a person who spends his almost entirety indoors.

Despite the piercing blue shade of his eyes, they always seem to have a cold light in them; lacking of any warmth or familiarity. The rest of his features seem to follow suit- a straight nose, prominent cheekbones and a rather angular square face. It is rare to find his lips ever upturned, more often seen in a disapproving frown. The only things that seem out of junction are his ears which tend to protrude outwards, as well as the natural straight curve of his eyebrows- both giving him a more youthful appearance. The well-groomed habits of Marius only seem to serve in furthering this image. Rarely will one find Marius in anything but a clean-shaven state. His ash brown hair is kept fairly consistent as well- the sides always tapered into an faded undercut, while the top layer is lightly swept-back to the right. 」

「 One would expect a man of his caliber to be serious, knowledgeable, passionate, and compassionate. Marius Black fits about 75% of those things. Unfortunately, he seems to lack the most vital organ - a heart (next to the hypothalamus and medulla oblongata anyhow). A tad bit ironic. One can only imagine how someone could be so cruel, especially to women, children, the elderly and the ill. Well, all they need to do is meet Marius. Excuse me, Dr. Black.

You see, Marius Black is a man who demands, commands absolute respect. Unfortunately, one will find it hard-pressed for the favour to be returned. There is a fine line between self-confidence and arrogance; one that Marius has trouble balancing. Especially since he tends to be the latter rather than the former. Although he is not dumb-witted enough to act superior in front of the hand who feeds him, he has no troubles in expressing his…opinion of those 'beneath him'. That is, if the man ever does bother to respond. Rarely when he does, is it well-intentioned. Not that it would be easy to discern underneath that blunt and sarcastic tone anyhow. Not at all surprisingly is he rather selfish. Some have mistakenly classified him as borderline psychotic. Rather, he just prioritizes academia which sometimes means that one needs to close their eyes to ethics. 」

The only reason and time anyone puts up with Marius is when he's working. A brilliant, above average success rate also doesn't hurt. He's still rather insufferable but excusable at least in the heat of things. Quite professional, he tends to take his work quite seriously and often will lose his temper with anyone who gets in his way. However, Marius is no fool or dreamer. He knows when a patient is gone, they're gone. Whether it may or may not come across as clearly to their loved ones, for Marius it really doesn't matter. Frankly, the man could care less about what others think of him. He just needs to do his job. And his job doesn't entail being a miracle worker. 」

「 Marius's past life wasn't really at all that significant. He had been raised by a wealthy merchant yet took no interest in the market. Even living in close proximity to a dock, Marius never saw the sea as anything interesting or mysterious; it was simply a body of water that one couldn't drink. From the tales he had heard, it was also perilous. So why risk it? But now, the man finds himself onboard a ship none the less. As for why he had the sudden change of heart…that's a secret to say the least. 」

「 Athen mistakenly often appears to be a troublesome man. Years of manual labour from running ship riggings have sculpted his frame to become lean and muscular. Another off-set of his work is his now quite fairly tanned skin- giving the man a rather healthy but matte look. Surprisingly apart from scars that he's earned from mostly clumsy accidents, Athen's skin is rather unblemished. With a height of 6'2, it's not really difficult in picking him out from among a crowd.

Perhaps one of the reasons that Athen may be misrepresented as an intimidating character is his dark brooding look. Framed by dark lashes, the light gold shade tends to become one of his most noticeable features. They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul. For anyone who looks more closely into Athen's…well there's not much to see. There's always a sort of blank gaze to them - as if the man's not quite all there. For those who are more optimistic, it can be somewhat described as more of an emotionless or guarded look perhaps.

For the rest of his features, Athen's face is rather oval shaped and long; a prominent greek nose and smooth jawline adorning it. While naturally straight, with exposure to humidity (which is pretty much all the time), his hair has become a slightly wavy mess; covering his forehead and only stopping at his eyebrows. However, he tends to keep the sides extremely short, as he claims that anything touching his ears is a strange and unpleasant sensation. 」

「 Athen sees things in either a black or white format, there is no in-between to him. There are things that people should not do and things that people should do. With this in mind, it allows him to make decisions easily based upon the hard fact of things. It's also the easiest way to stick to the truth of matters (honesty being something Athen values). However, this often results in misunderstandings of his character - leading to an impression of a supposed cold-blooded and people-hating person. In actuality, Athen is just the type that would rather not deal with the emotional burdens of others, as he figures it's uncomfortable for everyone all around.

To be honest, there's no traumatizing past that shaped Athen in the way he is. Even from when he was young, Athen would prefer to listen to conversations rather than add his own thoughts to the matter; simply as he's lazy and content just being around people. This prevented many from truly forming a relationship with the man as it seemed to them that he rarely opened up to others. In fact he's often pegged as 'slow-witted', as he often has a blank expression on his face.

Although Athen has very, very few friends, he demonstrates an unexpected loyalty to them. As friends choose each other, Athen seems relaxed around those who he perceives to be understanding of his character (they don't force him into talking). He's more than happy to just be around the group and follow them around without actually participating in conversations. If his friends ever ask him anything, he feels oddly satisfied if they just choose to laugh or brush off his short to no response. It feels like it's an acceptance of who he is. In some ways, this shows his more childish and immature side. 」

「 To be frank, Athen's father wasn't all that fond of having a wife- especially one that was about as attractive as a harpy. His father's true love had always been the sea rather than his family. It was probably a relief for the old fisherman to get away from what most had considered to be a dumb-witted and mute son, and a shrill excuse of a wife. While he rarely interacted with his father, Athen was drawn to the gruff old man who eventually became somewhat fond of him. At least more tolerant. Inheriting that love for the sailing, Athen began his adventures as a cabin boy and eventually became a decent rigger over the years. 」

( Honestly the time skip does seem useless, it only seems to help you rather than to help everyone else so you can just get your daughter.)

( I honestly think we should start from the begging, and follow the two paragraph and 8+ sentences per paragraph rule, it makes things way more detailed and more interesting than the one sentence thing and constant replying it gets annoying when you're typing and someone keeps responding to you while your trying to continue you're role. )
