"Thank you, doctor. I'll do that," she smiled at her, even though it looked more like a grimace than a grin. Kana started to drift to sleep, content with the situation.
"Thank you, doctor. I'll do that," she smiled at her, even though it looked more like a grimace than a grin. Kana started to drift to sleep, content with the situation.
The doctor nodded, and kept working on Kana's wound. Kana's was smaller, and easier to mend, than Jair's had been.
When the doctor finished, Kana's vision was slowly returning to her. She looked over at Jair and mumbled, "Thank you," unsure if he could he hear her or not.
Jair was asleep, leaning against the wall. His hair had drifted in front of his face slightly.
The doctor stepped back, and put away the supplies she had used. "I would suggest sleeping here for the night, your highness."
Kana nodded in agreement. "Thank you,"
just gonna do a time skip to morning
The doctor nodded, and left.
Okay. In the morning…
Jair was asleep, laying on his back with his hands clasped over the wound.
Kana woke up in a cold sweat and breathing heavily. She had a nightmare about a certain someone (heheheh) dying from a stab wound. She looked over at Jair and sighed deeply in relief.
Jair opened his eyes slowly, rubbing a hand across his face with a soft groan.
Kana got up, ignoring the pain shooting through her. That's right, that assassin nearly beat me to death. Kneeling down beside Jair, she questioned him using a gentle voice, "Are you feeling any better?"
"I feel like a dragon stomped on me." He grumbled, not getting up. He looked up at her. "I also failed my job, so you should probably just fire me." He added.
She shook her head. "I'm not going to do that." Sitting down next to him, she continued, "If you weren't there, I would've been dead. You took the blow for me."
Jair sighed softly, and reached up, brushing some of her hair back, then putting a finger against the bandage on her neck. "This, should never have happened." He said softly. "You should never have been in a situation where this could happen."
"It was out of our control, Jair." She sighed and stretched, wincing when she did. "I don't plan on firing you, and you can't change my mind."
Jair dropped his hand. "I…fine. If you say so." He said softly. His dark hair was in his face a bit.
She gently brushed his hair out of his face and smiled reassuringly at him. "So, do you think you can stand? Or would you like to wait here until you think it's safe?"
He shrugged. "I would…prefer not to stand yet, but i can if you want me to."
She rested her back on the wall and closed her eyes. "Then we'll wait,"
Jair hauled himself up to a sitting position.
"Hey, Jair?"
"Yeah?" He asked, looking over at her curiously.
"Do you ever regret becoming my guard?"
He took a breath. "I…" He thought for a moment. "No." He replied, looking at her. "Why? Do you regret hiring me?"
Kana smile, as though she was remembering a fond memory. "No, I don't regret hiring you." She was silent for a moment before adding in a quieter voice (but still audible), "It was probably one of the best decisions I've made in my entire life."
He raised an eyebrow slightly. "What do you mean?" He asked, looking over at her. He tucked his hair back behind his ears so that it wasn't in his face.
She chuckled. "I'm honored to have you by my side, is all. And over the years, you've become…" she paused, trying to think of a proper term. "You've become dear to me."
