Sabine tried to think back to the days before her twin brother died. Nick had cancer. He battled it for six years. And he lost. But he never lost his faith. Sabine remembered what he had told her one time when she had visited him, after he was to sick to stay at home. Sometimes God has different plans then us. Because we want to live in a perfect world. Sabine, the world's not perfect. People sin. People hate other people because they act differently, look different, sound different, anything that is different. It shouldn't matter who someone ELSE chooses to be. What should matter is who YOU choose to be. Be gentle. Be kind. Be caring. Be yourself. Do what makes you happy! Sabine……….. nobody's perfect. But we try to be an image of Christ. Sabine had never let go of any of her brother's wise words. You're an overcomer! Staying to fight 'till the final round! You're not going under! 'Cause God is holding you right now!…….. Sabine poured her heart into the words, holding on to every note like it was her lifeline.
(Song: Overcomer by Mandisa)
Arilyn started, her wings flinching out, the feathers puffing up, nearly knocking something over. Inwardly cursing her thirteen foot wingspan, she turned see the man who, obviously had asked the question.
"Um, yes. I- I'm- I was," she stuttered her face turn red at embarrassing herself in front of some one she didn't even know. She cleared her throat and tried again. "I was wondering if I could take lessons from some one who works here, I mean, I would go to a teacher, but I already know the basics of sculpting, and I, well…" She trailed off lamely.
(oh wow, two sets of twins! (in that I mean my character has a twin too) Cool, Natasha)
He closed his book, and decided to just beckon her over so she didn't feel so vulnerable speaking from the center of the store. When she was closer, "Pardon?" He asked her to rephrase.
Fae mayy as well have been floating when the pair teentered the pottery shop. She noticed a girl, maybe a bit older than her, speaking to Mr. Ponticelli, so she and Cruz walked quietly to the back of the shop to leave their coats and purchases. After telling Cruz to add any touch-ups he desired to his dragon-in-progress, she hurried back to assist her boss with the new customer.
Cruz lounged behind in the clay room., lost in thought.
"Need any help, sir?", she asked politely, smiling with a friendly manner at the girl.
"Ahm, I think we're fine right now, Fae. But thank you," August offered a friendly smile.
Fae nodded cordially and went back to where Cruz was sitting, silent. "Any thing else you'd like to add to him?", she asked, indication to the clay dragon-in-progress (or DIP) on the table.
"Eh, nah." He c9mmented back, "He looks nice right now,"
Noticing that her partner was uncharacteristically quiet, Fae pulled up a chair next to Cruz and sat down. After a minute or so of slightly uncomfortable silence, she turned her soft hazelwood eyes towards him and spoke. "You alright?", she asked, a note of concern resonating in her lilting voice.
His tight lips softened, "Just fine," he answered in a mellow tone, sinking his hands into his pockets.
Still a touch worried and unconvinced, Fae pulled a candy bar out of one of her many pockets, a Tootsie Roll. "Want one?", she asked Cruz, trying to cheer him up –if he even was upset–. "I have Reese's Peanut Butter Cups her too, somewhere.", she added, rummaging through her jacket and handbag's pockets.
"Ohh, mi Dio. Reeses are my weakness…" he feigned a groan of desire, then exhaling a laugh. "Thanks, Fae," he grinned, giving her a light shoulder-bump.
Arilyn smiled weakly and went up to the counter. "I'm sorry, I just get really nervous talking to people. Um, I was wondering if I could take lessons in sculpting. I know enough to get by, so I can't really go to a genuine teacher. The things in your store are so intricate, I was wondering if I could take lessons."
Sabine walked in, this time without her little sisters. "I actually teach sculpting. Not here,of course. But at my old school I taught for extra credit." She put her guitar down so that it leaned against the counter. "Sorry. I couldn't help overhearing." She leaned on the counter. "I was wondering if I could come back and play tomorrow. In front of your shop is the best place that I have ever played."
Augustus laughed a little on a breath, "Yeah, I don't mind if you come back to play." He shrugged loosely.
Sabine smiled. "Thanks. I guess I'll see you tomorrow." She picked up her phone. "Oh no. I'm soooooo busted! Alright bye!" She told Augustus happily. She grabbed her guitar and ran out of the shop. "Come on guys. I have to drop you off at home. Dad needs me."
Glad to have brought back the familiar Cruz, she handed him the chocolate with a grin. "If you can't tell already, I'm a bit of a sweet tooth.", she said, thumping him back. Trying to get up, Fae accidentally knocked over her handbag, all of her W.A.N.A. flyers spilling onto the ground. She swore under her breath and crouched down quickly to pick them up before they got dirty.
Chewing on his treat, he dropped to a crouch to help her gather the flyers. "What's W.A.N.A?" He asked Fae.
Thankful for the help, Fae slid the flyers back into her bag. "W.A.N.A. stands for "We Are Not Afraid". It's an act for gender equality I created a few months ago with the help of a few others, based on our… past experiences.", she explained. Rape. Almost-suicide. Sexual harassment. "It's not just a feminist thing.", she added. "One of the people who helped create it was a boy who almost killed himself because of continued harassment and bullying." She stood up, taking a single flyer back out of her bag. "Want one?" We've gotten pretty big lately. More people are joining and sharing their stories."
"Yeah," he inhaled, becoming quiet.
She handed it to him, immediately feeling a surge of guilt for the negative change in his mood. "What's wrong?", she questioned gently in a soothing voice.
He shook his head. "Nothing." He answered, forcing a light tone of voice, a glaze of sarcasm, "Nada, as they uh, say in Spain. Hah."
