He read the note and his face went blank. "Do you even know what you're parents handwriting looks like? For all you know, this could be a decoy. Wouldn't put it past those R.A.C. folk."

"I thought they would've come back by now." He whispered quietly. "I've been there my whole life. How much training does one person need? I just…" Blake's face fell as he trailed off. Blake absentmindedly touched his wing where Ben had ripped out a bunch of feathers. New ones were starting to grow in, but they were still small and soft. "Commander Ryker wouldn't do that to me." He said firmly. "He's the one who's been taking care of me, sort of."

Ace folded his arms, "What kind of parents leaves their child in a dangerous organization to fend for themselves?"

"They just wanted to protect me from whatever magic they had. I don't know, maybe they want me to forget. Maybe they've forgotten about me by now." Blake stared at the floor, his eyes glazed over slightly as he thought about what life would've been like if his parents had kept at home. "It must've been pretty dangerous magic. I don't know what it was, but it had to have been."

"Why do you see magic as a bad thing? Do you know how many people died back there at the fight? They were fighting for their right to live. That's something…" Ace's voice cracked, "Something no one should ever have to do. The right to live should be given to you at birth and, " he looked at Blake, "the ability to decide what's right and wrong, for yourself."

"I'm not allowed to question orders." Blake said meekly. "I just didn't want to hurt you, alright? I won't tell anyone where you are. I'll just-" Blake froze for a second as realisation hit him. Commander Ryker said he'd cut iff my wings if I failed this mission. Blake tensed and stiffened considerably. "I'll just… just take the punishment. It's not a big deal." Blake had to force the words out of himself, his mouth going dry with fear.

Ace held out a hand, "Stay with us."

Blake looked at Ace, his eyes filled with uncertainty. "My parents…" He mumbled, looking around at everyone in the room. No one seemed to notice the conversation between Ace and him. Dani had promised to help me find them. She said Commander Ryker can't find you. She promised you'd be safe. Blake reached his hand out tentatively. Macha's words echoed in his head: "You aren't in the military anymore, Blake." She had looked at him with pity before giving him a piece of cake. Suddenly Blake had that warm feeling in his chest again. The one he wasn't used to. Trust. He grabbed ahold of Ace's hand and roughly pulled him into a hug.

Ace hugged him back and laughed. "If you hadn't taken my hand, I would've wrestled you onto the floor and made you." he rubbed Blake's head vigorously, careful not to touch the braids, "I'm glad you decided to stay."

"You better not make me regret it." Blake grumbled, trying and failing to be serious. "Didn't you say there was ice cream around here? Can we get some?" Blake changed the topic. His emotions were running high right now. Ice cream seemed like a good fix for both of them.

"Yes, ike cream is a good idea." Ace headed towards the kitchen, "Hey Peter, can we have some ike cream?"

Dani looked back up at Macha. She took a shaky breath. "I'm okay. Really. Thanks Macha."
