Ace looked up, thankful for the grin, his screams starting to fade from his mind. "Unusual circumstance, we're all full of those, aren't we? Also, your punch didn't hurt."
"It wasn't supposed to hurt." Blake rolled his eyes. "If I wanted to hurt you then I would've by now."
Ace grinned, "Riiiight. Do you want to get out of this room now? Or do you want to stay?"
"Let's go back with everyone else, maybe Dani and Macha finished talking. Or we can get more food?" Blake looked at Ace hopefully.
"Are you that hungry?" Ace chuckled. "Ok, let's go." he got up and went out of the door, before peeking his head back in and saying, "Don't ever scare me like that again."
"I didn't mean to!" Blake whined, trotting after Ace out into the common room. "I need a little warning next time, man."'
Ace snorted, "Man."
"What's the big deal about that?" Blake puffed out his cheeks with fake anger.
"It's just….man." Ace pantomimed putting on shades,"Man."
As soon as Blake felt it he knew he couldn't stop it. Laughter bubbled in his chest. He attempted to hold it back, but it simply came out stronger as he doubled over, an ill restrained giggling fit erupting to the surface. "Is that-" He paused, catching his breath. "Is that what you think of me?" He smiled, his wings fluttering ever so slightly on his back.
Ace laughed, "You're like one of those surfer dudes at the beach that I used to love watching when they got tormented by my old boyfriend." he lowered his voice, "Man."
"A surfer dude? Maybe that's where I come from then." He smirked, his eyes still sparkling with amusement. "I haven't ever left the city's perimeter. I don't know if I was born here or not though. But I've been here as long as I can remember. I've never seen a beach before…" Blake trailed off wistfully, trying to imagine what being on a beach was like. Golden sands, sapphire waves dipped in milky foam, and the warm sun on his feathers… That'd be something Blake could get used to.
"They're beautiful." Ace sighed, "Even with all the trash and the annoying people, when you stay there until sunset and the sun hits the water and the sand, just right, the whole place seems magical, like a page from a storybook. And all the things you find in the sea! Me and Kameo, we'd find gold and weird sea creatures and don't even get me started on the beach when the moon's out. Have you ever been sailing?"
"Have you seen any oceans in Seattle?" Blake rolled his eyes, but his gaze softened. He could tell Ace was passionate about the ocean. He shook his head. "Never left the city limits." He repeated a bit quieter this time.
"Maybe we can travel around the world together someday. All of us, me, you, Josh, Ana, Macha, Dani, Peter, and Skylar. I can show you guys all the places I've been, and this time, on my terms instead of anyone else's." Ace's eyes cast a dreamy gaze and he stared at the ceiling, lost in a dreamland.
"You just want to turn me into a surfer dude, don't you? I'll have you know I'm attractive just as I am!" Blake joked, folding his wings flat against his back so they could comfortably rest.
Ace laughed, "Not a surfer dude, a sailor dude. Besides, if you're sooo attractive, why can't you woo Dani?"
"Soldier's Code, Ace! I can't date a rebel. Not like I'd want to anyways… I mean uh, or I-I guess I wouldn't." Blake shook his head in frustration, trying to phrase his sentence as carefully as possible.
(I SHIP IT ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Blani? Dake?)
"You're going to go back? You can't. The way they're treating you and the cause you're fighting for…It's not right." Ace shook his head, "Everyone I ever loved was killed, because of your cause."Kameo, Ebony, Quinlan.. "I'm not trying to make you feel bad, but why? Why must you go back? If that was your only home, this place," Ace gestured around the room, "can be your home. We, can be your friends. You're not someone who wants to kill, Blake. You're…A good person. Someone that I care about now. And even if you do go back, I will come in with my guns blazing, ready to take you back."
(Hmmm…Which ship name sounds more stupid?)
"I have to. It's what my parents wanted for me. Maybe if I stay in the same spot, they'll come back. Or many if I rank up enough that they're proud of me. They could be looking for me right now for all I know." Blake reached into his pocket and pulled out the folded note from his parents, handing it to Ace.
(This is the note in case you don't remember:
*To Our Dearest Blake,
It will be a long time before you can actually read this, but your father and I agreed you deserve to have an explanation. We had to leave you with the R.A.C. because they will train you to protect yourself without magic. You would have been unable to survive living with magic users for parents, Blake. You'd have grown up defenseless. I sincerely hope you understand we are doing this to protect you.
Train hard Blake,
Mr. & Mrs. Thorfin*
It was Commander Ryker that wrote to trick him, but Blake doesn't know that.)
Ace faltered, "Sometimes, you have to be brave enough to let go. You are your own person. Able to make decisions by yourself. But it's okay if you want to leave Blake. I'l always remember you."
