Nula looked up as Rvan walked in. He seemed to get paler than yesterday, which sounded impossible. Nula frowned as he walked in, still wearing that blank face. He was so thin. She saw all the bones in his arms and and hands and feet. His face was sickly hollow. Nula glanced at the other protèges. She was sure they noticed it too. Nula sighed, “Hi Rvan. Did you eat a breakfast?” She asked.
Rvan dragged his eyes to the child speaking to him. She asked him something about… about what? It probably didn’t matter that much. He sat down and looked at the floor.
Nula frowned more at him. He didn’t even respond. The other protèges got quieter. (SKYLAR SHOULD TAKE HIM TO BREAKFAST)
Skylar couldn’t stand to see Rvan so unresponsive anymore. Skylar got up from spot she had been sitting and hooked arms with Rvan. “Rvan, you and I are going to eat breakfast. And you are going to like it.” She stayed and lead him towards the kitchen.
Draco had been silently packing his things in the corner of the room. The corner of his lips curled upward as he heard what Skylar had said to Rvan. The young ice protégé reminded Draco of someone he had known very well.
Gregory raised his eyebrows after Skylar left. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d think Skylar was fire draman with that kind of attitude.”
Thalia laughed and said, “You aren’t the one who grew up with her, Gregory.”
Meanwhile, in the kitchen…
Rvan looked at Skylar as she sat down next to him, cereal sitting in front of him. He hesistantly took and ate a spoonful but that was it.
“Rvan.” Skylar growled with raised eyebrows. “Do think that one spoonful of cereal is going to supply you with enough energy to cling to Gregory’s back as we fly away from fighter jets, hunting hogs, tear gas and whatever else the Council throws at us.”
Rvan looked shyly at Skylar, “She attacked me with gas before I could even realize it. It wouldn’t have mattered if I was the way I was then or the way I am now,” Rvan replied quietly, yet he took another, smaller, spoonful.
“Okay, I’ll admit tear gas is hard to avoid, but you are still going to need your strength to avoid hunting hounds and fighter jets.” she countered.
Rvan took another spoonful for Skylar’s sake. It felt weird… hadn’t she loved Jay? Rvan shuddered at the memories brought about by Jay’s name and pushed those deep into the back of his mind. He took another spoonful, then thought of a question he should’ve asked a while ago, “Did you have a good time at the ball?”
Skylar looked at Rvan though the corners of her eyes. She had never gotten around to asking Rvan if he had really caused the chaos at the Masked Dance. She wondered if Rvan had meaning to ask her his question about the dance for some time now too.
Skylar sighed before speaking. “It was okay. I went their with my boyfriend, Jay. I’m not sure if you ever met him. It was the first time I had decided to go with someone else instead my ice team. I guess I assumed the Masked Dance would have been special with Jay, but he spent most of the time introducing me to members of the Council. And in that aspect, it was kind of a let down.”
It was also the night Skylar realized she didn’t care for Jay, but she didn’t feel like sharing that tidbit just yet.
“I’ve met Jay, we were… well acquainted. I’m sorry you had a mediocre time,” Rvan replied, locking away the feelings the dance brought him. It didn’t matter how he felt in the end.
“Rvan…” she paused to look at him. “Did you attack the Council that night?”
(She should ask how Rvan and Jay are ‘well acquainted’)
The question caught him off guard. That felt so long ago. He pondered over it before taking another bite of cereal then responding, “Of course. I was…” Betrayed. Hurt. Angry. Jealous. There were so many words Rvan could have said, but he trailed off instead.
(How should Skylar pose that question though when she is on a role with this one)
“I’m not mad about it, “ She continued, hoping Rvan wouldn’t shut down. “The Council got what they deserved…but Jay was hurt that night and I just want to know what really happened.”
(Here’s her opportunity)
(*Dodges question *) “Jay and I got acquainted,” Rvan murmured, as if in a trance. Then his face broke and he looked at the floor, stricken with quiet, internal pain.
“How did you and Jay get acquainted?” She asked, softly.
“In bad ways,” Rvan whispered almost silently, his fearful stare focused on the ground as he remembered his dreams, “He was training… with my help,” Rvan’s voice broke on the word ‘help’.
Skylar’s eyes widened. “Training for what?” She asked, with growing concern.
Rvan seemed to pale even more, to a greyish color, “Jay wanted to know about the weak parts of m-my d-dragon form,” Rvan started with a light shaking, “He did a lot of tests with- on me. He made s-sure to find every parts that m-made m-me hurt. So he knew for when he became a Dragon Catcher,” By the time Rvan was done talking, he was shaking rapidly.
