"No no no. Stop. I love you, Ivy. I always will. And I want to be there for you forever." He looked to her. "I'm here for you."
"No no no. Stop. I love you, Ivy. I always will. And I want to be there for you forever." He looked to her. "I'm here for you."
Tears rimmed her eyes and that's when the voices started. Voices of people she both recognized and didn't and all of them were screaming at her the horrible things she usually told herself. "I'm sorry." Her voice was broken, choked up with tears. "I'm broken. I'm worthless." Now the tears started to fall, sobs racking her body. "I don't deserve a love like yours. Spend it on someone who has earned it. Someone not like me." She couldn't stand there anymore, it'd kill her inside to see the hurt on his face. So she didn't. She bolted out of the room, locking herself in the bathroom as she slumped against the door, sobbing into her hands.
"Wait- No!" He got up and chased after yet only to have the door slammed in his face. "Ivy, no, you're none of those things. I love you, and I don't love anyone else. Don't want to. You deserve more than my love. I-" he sighed, resting his forehead against the door. "Ivy…"
"Just leave me alone!" Her voice was thick with tears and broken beyond belief. Don't leave. Please. I need you. I need you more than I'm willing to tell you. Just please don't leave. Her voices grew louder and the sobs racked her harder. All she needed to do was reach up and unlock the door and he could make all her problems better but the voices forbid her from moving.
He winced as he heard the pain in her voice. How could she believe that?… He wouldn't leave her, he decided. Ever. "I can't. I won't. I-" He turned around, back against the door and slid down . "I'm staying right here…"
She needed him. She needed him by her side or she'd go crazy. It took a lot of effort and she was still trembling like a leaf but she pulled a hand out of its frozen place, reached up, and unlocked the door, gently moving away from it so he could open it and come in.
As soon as he heard the click, he stood and opened the door gently. "Hey," he whispered as he walked in. He slid down and sat next to her, wrapping his arms gently around her. "I love you… Every part of you… Even the parts that other people don't…"
She buried her head in his shoulder, her sobs never slowing. She needed him there to be her anchor. To keep her chained to reality as all the pain she'd kept back poured out.
He held her close with a firness that let her know that he was there and always would be. "Shhhhh…" he whispered softly, gently sweating back and forth. And then it hit: he could feel her emotions spoiling over the brim as she sobbed, but instead of love, it begged desperately for a hand to hold. Something to stay. So, he stayed.
Just the feeling of him being there made her feel slightly better. "Please…" She whispered with a shaky, broken voice. "Don't leave me…" Don't leave me like everyone else did. Don't leave me to deal with this alone.
He could feel her loosen up in his arms a bit. "I won't- I promise. I'll be here…" He gently pressed a soft kiss to the top of her head.
She didn't completely understand why he decided to stay with her. Why did he want to spend his time with a broken mess line her?
Confusion… He felt the emotion mix in with everything else. "I love you, Ivy. No matter what." He held her closer. "No matter what," he repeated.
"But why?" After all you've been through in this one day alone, why? She wanted to keep him close and just accept what he told her but she couldn't.
"Ivy, I frickin proposed to you. After only knowing you for a few days and saying for one just to know you're safe. I wouldn't have done that for anyone else. I love you, your demons, your scars- love is a reckless matter. I'd walk into this chaos with broken pieces of glass flying everywhere just to see you smile." He sighed a little. "I love you."
She couldn't help but smile, just the smallest bit. "I wish I was as good with words as you." There's so many things I'd say to you if I was but I can't. "But regardless, I love you too."
He chuckled a bit. "And I wish I was better at words so I could say exactly how amazing you are." He kissed the top of her head again before adjusting a little.
She sighed quietly before pulling herself over him, effectively straddling him before resting her head on his shoulder and wrapping her arms around him.
Jackson sat still as she moved. When she settled, he was still a little shocked and unsure what to do. He quickly moved his arms around her, letting her rest on him.
She was still sniffling softly but she wasn't full on sobbing. But just the feeling of his warmth surrounding her made her feel a little better.
He just sat there holding her, letting her know that he was there and always would be. I love you, Ivy… It was quiet besides her soft sniffles, and he didn't want to bother that.
Her sniffles eventually ended and she felt so much better. "I love you." She muttered under her breath. And she really did. She just wished that there were better words to say it.
"I love you too." What he felt was much deeper than love. He was sure of it, but he sat there quietly thinking about a time when love must have not been a word and how terrible it must have been to have the wonderful, twisting, aching feeling in your stomach and no word to describe it.
"There needs to be a better word than love. It gets used so often and people don't mean it. I like 'always' more. I feel like it says more. Is that weird?"
"No, I was- I was just thinking the same thing actually." He paused. "Always… Yeah, I like the sound of that."
