Talin bowed to his mother and stepped away as the dance ended, walking off of the floor as he looked for someone to dance with. He didn’t want to dance with the ambassador just yet, she seemed busy talking away anyways.

Zaera stood by the refreshments table taking small bites of a cookie before it was completely gone. She was trying not to talk to any of her family today.

@ShadeStar

"Hello," Zaera nodded to the other girl. She recognized her as one of the contestants, but couldn't remember her name, "So how are you enjoying the ball?"

@gracehustle

Talin fixed his jacket and made his way over to the first girl he saw that wasn’t busy talking, which happened to be Zia. He cleared his throat as he neared, smiling at her and waiting for her to notice him there.

He chuckled and bowed to her slightly, extending a hand with a smile, “Mind If I dance with you? You can say no if you really don’t feel like it, I won’t blame you.” The Prince was clearly nervous, but he tried not to show it too much.

She hesitantly took his hand. "I may as well. Although I need to warn you that i might step on your toes, so I apologise beforehand." She said with a tiny, nervous smile.

Cassie had since gone back to being a point of attention, chatting with anyone who came up to her when she noticed a familiar figure out of the corner of her eye. She finished her conversation with a couple French ladies and turned to see the figure fully and she froze.

One of the guards looked oddly familiar. Was that? No. It couldn't be. Jackson? The guard's eyes swept the room again and locked onto her. The entire room seemed to go silent and they just stared at each other.

Jackson had left 3 years ago when he was pulled for the draft. Cassie had a massive crush on him at the time so she was heartbroken, begging him not to go. But he did. Over the years, she got over him and hadn't seen him since. She wasn't even sure he was still alive. But here he was. And now he was walking towards her. When he eventually reached her, he smiled. "Hey firefly."

@gracehustle

“It’s fine,” He replied, walking her out to the dance floor and whispering into her ear, “If you need to, just step on my feet and I’ll lead.” There was a smile on his face that made it hard to decide if he was joking or not, leaving it up to her to take him up on his offer or not.

@ElderGod-Icefire

She smiled slightly, and followed his lead. "I'm not that terrible, am I?" She asked, looking up at him with raised eyebrows. Her dark hair was pulled back, falling down her shoulders and back in loose waves.

@gracehustle

He shrugged and his smile grew, “I don’t think so, I’ve danced with some pretty terrible dancers.” Gently he put one hand on her waist and held her other hand lightly, leading the dance and being careful not to get too complex with the moves.

@ElderGod-Icefire

She smiled back. For a moment, she tensed at his touch, then forced herself to relax, still smiling lightly. There was something buried deep in her eyes, a touch of worry, though it wasn't obvious.

@gracehustle

“So, Zia, I haven’t had the chance to talk to you much, tell me about yourself,” He said, his dancing graceful and confident. Talin kept his hand exactly where it was, never trying to make her uncomfortable in any way.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Zia shrugged slightly. "Well, I'm from Caste four, and I'm from the north. I enjoy hiking, and photography. Even though that's, well…supposed to he for caste five." She hesitated, then shrugged. "My mother was a five, so maybe that's where i get it from."

@gracehustle

The prince nodded, making sure he remembered she liked photography and already knowing somewhere they could go that she would love, “Have any siblings? Friends? What was living up north like?” He knew he was asking way too many questions, but he was curious and wanted to be the best prince he could in this selection.

@ElderGod-Icefire

"Well, I have two older brothers, and a younger twin sister." She replied with a soft laugh. "She wanted to take my place. Said no one would ever know the difference." She smiled slightly. "I…have a few friends. The north is beautiful. Kinds cold, but beautiful."

@gracehustle

“What I wouldn’t give to have siblings,” Talin said softly with a smile, “It must be nice, and no one would be able to tell the difference, that’s true. Though as far as I can tell, I think I like that you’re here and not your sister.” He cracked a goofy smile and heard that the song was slowing and coming to the end, “I’ll have to set a date some time so you can tell me all about the north, and I think I have the perfect place we can go.”

@ElderGod-Icefire

Zia smiled. "Mm. She's like six inches taller than me, so….there would be a height difference." She said with a laugh. She nodded. "Alright. I won't ask what this place is, i think I want the surprise."

@gracehustle

“I wouldn’t have told you the place even if you had asked.” He smiled mischievously and bowed to her as the song slowed and ended, “You’re not a bad dancer at all by the way, didn’t even step on my feet.”
