"Aw come on Beatriz, cheer up! It can't be that bad. It's just a dance! How badly can you mess up a dance?" She thought for a second. "Actually, don't answer that. You can mess up a dance pretty badly."
"Aw come on Beatriz, cheer up! It can't be that bad. It's just a dance! How badly can you mess up a dance?" She thought for a second. "Actually, don't answer that. You can mess up a dance pretty badly."
Beatriz nodded emphatically. "You have no idea. I can't go two seconds without tripping my partner or myself. The one time I didn't trip anyone while dancing was while standing on my ex's feet like some kind of deranged monkey."
Cassie couldn't help but burst out laughing. "Yeah, that sounds like me when I was learning to dance. Unfortunately, I didn't have guy friends so I made my brother be my dance partner and he still resents me for it."
Zia was silent through the conversation, laughing softly at some of the things the others said. "I want to dance, but…I don't think I can." She said. "I'm not very good."
"I've only ever had one guy friend. My sister's the dancer in the family, but I'm always practicing music, so we keep ourselves separate. Somehow, my girlfriend turned out to be a fantastic dancer, so I just let her do all the dancing for me," she laughed at the memory, then turned to Zia. "We should dance together some time. Maybe we can help each other to not kill anyone while dancing," she suggested quietly, chuckling a bit.
"One of my sisters is a maid and the other I'm raising to be my little writing apprentice. Reina does quite well for a 13 year old."
"I had private lessons almost all my life," Zaera jutted in with a little smile at the word girlfriend, so someone else here was at least not indifferent into females, "So I'm always up to helping any of you learn to dance, or anything else you may not know. I would rather help the rest of you out before I get removed from the selection, than to leave you all to squander."
Beatriz laughed slightly. "I appreciate that, but I doubt I'll last long enough to use any of those skills."
Zia nodded. "Sounds like fun." She replied, listening to the conversation with her hands at her sides.
Lillian smiled warmly at her son when he introduced himself, her eye's screamed, you will regret this, before melting back into the friendly mask. "Yes my son here is just beginning his selection! I believe a few of the girls are here tonight!" She continued to speak to the courtier for a moment then grabbed her sons arm, "If you'll excuse us, Mother son dances are important for bonding. The ambassador began socializing with a near by Frenchwoman and The queen mumbled to her son, "Come late one more time and I'm hanging you out of the north tower by your left toe, in full armor in a cold breeze."
"Whenever you want to stop by," Zaera told both girls as her smile turned softer, "I'll be more than willing to teach you something. Whether it be dancing, or how to handle big events like this, I'm always readily available."
"Gods, that would be nice," Beatriz sighed wistfully, leaning against the wall again.
Zia smiled. "Thank you so much."
"It's my pleasure," Zaera gave them a slight curtsey, "Now if you don't mind me, I'm going to go and raid the desert table."
Talin went along with his mother, nodding and mumbling an excuse so he wouldn't have to think about the punishment she just described, "I was at lessons, and we forgot what time it was, and I was taking a test. Sorry." Reaching the center of the dance floor, he stopped and waited for the song to start before starting to dance with his mother, "I promise I won't be late again."
The song began and mother and son began to dance, "It's alright I'm just a bit… oh whats the word, preoccupied? Worried? Oh I know Over stimulated, I'm a bit over stimulated, no that still doesn't sound right." Lillian babbled quietly.
"Everything is fine mother, you always get nervous when ambassadors are here, nothing is going to go wrong," He said quietly, feet moving expertly. The prince had taken dance lessons all his life, which honestly wasn't terrible since he enjoyed them.
Lillian took deep breaths and regained control of her breathing, "You're right, as soon as this dance is over I'm going to find your father, and then we can talk to the queen together, and everything will go smoothly because your father is amazing."
"It's my pleasure," Zaera gave them a slight curtsey, "Now if you don't mind me, I'm going to go and raid the desert table."
"Could I join you?" Beatriz asked with a shy smile. "I didn't want to go alone."
Talin shrugged, "He has his good days, other times he can be very cranky and not fun to deal with." The song was still going, but it was winding down and starting to change to the next one where everyone would be allowed to dance.
Zia looked at Beatriz and Zaera. "I don't want to be left alone…is jt alright if I join you two?" She asked.
Beatriz smiled. "Definitely. The more people, the less likely we'll be swept up in French conversation with no chance of escape," she said dramatically, giggling slightly.
Zaera had a slight smile as she began to make her way towards the table, "Of course you can come with. Though getting swept up into a conversation wouldn't be so terrible."
Beatriz raised an eyebrow. "As someone with absolutely no confidence in my French skills, I'd say it would be," she laughed.
Zia chuckled. "It absolutely would be terrible. I'd probably blurt out something like "I like to eat shit". Or something equally as embarrassing."
