Beatriz smiled. "Oh, that's cool! I cannot play any wind instruments," she explained.
"Ah, well. I probably can't play the instruments that you play." Henry smiled. Then he looked around them. "Um… Bea, would you like to dance with me?"
Beatriz smiled, thinking for a moment. "I suppose, but I am… a really bad dancer."
Henry took her hand, laughing as he dragged her out on the dance floor. "That's fine! I'm a terrible dancer too!" That was definetly not a lie.
(So… I just found a fanfic that is The Selection combined with Percy Jackson… can it get any better?)
Beatriz laughed. "Oh, wonderful. Now we can fail together."
(No. No it can not get any better.)
Talin frowned slightly, “Have you tried hiding your earnings from your mother? Or just buying what you need right as you get the money so she can’t take any?” It pained him to think that most people didn’t live like he did, and like Cassie, had to support all their siblings and even their parents.
"Oh trust me, I have. But the drunker she is, the easier it is to deal with her. Besides, we don't need another situation like she got herself into with Luke and Reina." She loved her youngest siblings even if they were only technically stepsiblings.
Beatriz laughed. "Oh, wonderful. Now we can fail together."
"Exactly!" Henry laughed too and placed a hand by her waist, the other hand holding hers. "Okay, here we go…"
(I just really, really hope that the grammar is good. Fanfictions with messed up grammar are really annoying, in my opinion.)
"Oh, god, I'm going to fall," Beatriz groaned. "Okay, I'm going to try not to trip you."
(UGH, as a grammar nazi I most certainly agree. If there's more than 2 mistakes on the first page, I'm just done.)
"If you fall, I'll catch you." Henry looked at her with a crooked little smile. "Unless I fall too. Then we just have a dam problem."
okay I should probably stop with the PJO references now but… "You're catching me too, Superman. But I ain't holding your hand."
Beatriz laughed. "If you say so," she said wryly.
(Okay I love you for those references)
(Thanks lol)
Dancing on, or at least trying to, Henry kept the conversation going. "So, Bea. Do you have any plans for the future? If you don't win this, I mean."
Bea laughed. "I'm not going to win. I don't know, I'll probably just go back home and go back to being a stereotypical 'starving artist' type," she said thoughtfully.
"Okay, one: There is nothing that says that you won't win. And two…" Henry looked her in the eyes. "Is that really what you want to do with your life? I mean, if you like it, then that's great. But… is there nothing more? There is so much to explore!" He laughed.
"I'm… not really the exploring type," Beatriz said uncomfortably. "I do what I'm used to doing."
"Oh. Okay, that's cool too. I'm more like… I want to do everything." Henry laughed. "That's why I took this job. I wanted to see the castle from the inside. And because Jade is here. I hadn't seen her for a while."
Jade walked around the room, looking for something to do. She had already visited the desert table twice. She couldn't really do that again. Everyone else seemed to be busy doing something. She wanted to be busy doing something too.
Beatriz nodded with understanding. "That's nice," she said thoughtfully.
A guard suddenly walked up to them. "Your shift by the main entrance starts in a few minutes, Mr. Isaksson."
"Ah, yes. Thank you." Henry turned to Beatriz again. "I have to go. But if you have time… maybe I can see you sometime again?"
Beatriz nodded nervously. "I - thank you," she managed before walking back to stand against a wall of the room.
"Well Luke and Reina are my youngest siblings, they're twins. They're also technically not my siblings. After Dad died, Mom started dating this one guy from a couple neighborhoods over. But one day, Mom realized that this guy got her pregnant. And when she told him, he took off. Since I didn't want her to become an Eight, I made sure she didn't have any guests until she gave birth, of which I had to midwife. Did I mention I was six? I had to leave school at six years old to take care of my four year old brother, two year old sister, and my now newborn stepsiblings."
He listened with a nod, waiting until she was done to comment, “Wow…is that why you’re here? To raise your siblings?” Her story was crazy, but he was sure she wasn’t lying. No one lied about their family.
