"All of them?" Jude asked again, only half-sure Nyx was being serious. "–It would take years to properly appreciate the art," He said, smiling as he faintly shook his head. I'd have to say no to that, right? One hundred and thirty. I'd have to brush up on my French and get a place… "We'd have to move there," Jude softly laughed.
Nyx sighed. "But I wanna see them." He complained, looking up at Jude with puppy dog eyes. "Pleeeeaaaasse?"
Jude shifted his gaze away with a nervous laugh, the corners of his mouth curving up into the faintest smile. Mmm but I took French for years! And Nyx will probably pick it up even faster. And he wants to go. And…God, I can really afford to buy a place there… "We'd have to move there," He said again, a little hesitant to say no right away.
Nyx sighed. "Oh. But I haven't seen all of here yet!" he replied, lower lip pushing out in a faint pout.
"Mhm," Jude nodded slowly, quietly sighing in relief and briefly glancing out of his window and at the illuminated skyline, "I mean– I haven't. I don't think anyone can, really."
Nyx frowned a little bit. "Then how am I supposed to learn anything if I can't see anything?" He asked, looking up at Jude.
"No– of course you'll learn and see a bunch more of this city," Jude said, nodding at him, "It's just that it's huge and between living here and potentially travelling, seeing everything would really take a while."
Nyx sighed. "Oh." He sounded vaguely disappointed. "But I wanted to see everything." He pouted a little bit.
"Aw, c'mon," Jude said with a smile, pressing a kiss onto his cheek, "You can still see a lot, or almost everything. And if we go to a bunch of other places– Paris, for example –We won't need to see absolutely everything. It'd take forever."
Nyx pouted again. "But I wanna see everything!" he said again, looking up at Jude with his lower lip jutting out.
Jude just sighed, smiling at Nyx and tilting his head to the side. "But everything is a lot." He said, "I'll do my best to show you as much as I can, but seeing everything is impossible."
Nyx wrinkled his nose. "That's stupid." he grumbled. "Why can't I see everything?" he looked at Jude.
Jude raised his eyebrows at Nyx in a knowing look. "One;" He said, using his fingers to tally his points, "This city is huge. Two; even if we did figure out a way to see everything, it would take a long time. Three; we have to be careful about where we go. Four; we'd have less time to go to other places."
Nyx thought for a moment. "Why do we have to be careful?" He asked. "About where we go? Why can't we go wherever we want?"
Jude chewed his lip for a moment, glancing back to the TV, where a wobbly view of a Parisian neighbourhood showed little cafés and bakeries along the narrow road. "I mean…we can go anywhere. It's just that we have to be careful, like we talked about, earlier? Stuff like flying commercial and staying away from any RTI sites."
Nyx frowned a little. "Oh. Right." He had forgotten about that for a while, and the reminder sent him crashing back down again. "I forgot."
"But, hey–" Jude said softly, affectionately running a hand through Nyx's hair, "We're gonna make it work. Just need a plan and…a backup plan, probably."
Nyx sighed, leaning into Jude's hand. "But it's stupid." he grumbled. "Just because I'm made of metal."
"It is stupid," Jude said with a faint nod, letting out a soft breath, "And it's because of a lot of things. But if we're careful, we can do whatever we want, more or less."
Nyx let out a breath, leaning his head on Jude's shoulder and looking at the TV again. "I… Alright." He replied softly.
Jude smiled, watching the screen as it showed a view of the Eiffel Tower from below, the early morning sky a pale blue as the camera panned the empty side streets. "So…Paris?" He prompted, "Should we put that one on the list?"
Nyx nodded happily, watching the TV. "Alright." He replied with a happy smile. "And we can go sometime, right?"
"Probably," Jude said, weighing the options of how they might get there without drawing attention, "Yeah. Maybe…if I figure a way to get my dad's…private jet or something? Make up a cover story about why I'm leaving?"
Nyx looked at him, and shrugged a little bit. "Maybe." he replied, smiling softly up at Jude. "I don't know. And besides, we still have to finish New York. And America."
"Mm that we do," Jude sighed, smiling as he thought back to the summer road trip he'd taken with his friends after high school, "But– maybe tomorrow I could show you some of the pictures I took when I went around the states? Me 'n my friends mostly drove around the south."
