"I think so.. maybe… no." He let out a defeated sigh.
"I think so.. maybe… no." He let out a defeated sigh.
"That's okay. It's not like you've ever visited me or anything," Brooke laughed. "Turn left here."
He turned in said direction. "Got it… now..?"
"Go straight a few blocks, turn right at the gas station, and then straight for two more blocks. Then we'll be there!" Brooke directed.
Jacob did such, eventually parking in front of the coffee shop. "So… do I need to pick you up as well after your shift?"
Brooke shrugged. "If you want. Otherwise, I'll just take the bus or call Jessie or something," she replied as she moved to get out of the car.
"I will. Call me," he insisted. Boyfriends did stuff like this, right?
"All right, I will," Brooke promised, smiling at him. "You wanna come inside for coffee and a pastry or something? I've got a bit of time before I have to start, so I could eat with you."
"Wow," he said. "Did you just ask me on a date? I was planning to ask, Brooke. I can't believe you beat me to it…" Jake exaggerated his surprise.
Brooke laughed. "That's not what I was implying… You could still ask me, anyway," she suggested with a shrug.
He chuckled, "Not right now- you have your shift soon. All joking aside, I would like to have some food inside of me… I'm starving."
"Well, let's get out and go inside, then!" Brooke exclaimed. "I get a discount because I work there, so you can, too, since you're with me."
"Nice," he smiled, moving out of the car.
Brooke climbed out and walked over to Jake, smiling at him before they headed inside. One of the barista's waved as she shouted Brooke's name.
"Hey, Aubry! Where's Austin?" Brooke asked, waving back.
"Out of town with his new girlfriend," Aubry explained, shaking her head. "I swear, that boy gets a new girlfriend every time the season changes."
Brooke gave her a knowing look, nodding. "Yeah, no kidding. Oh! This is Jacob, by the way. We've been friends for as long as I can remember," she said, turning to smile at him.
Aubry stuck her hand over the counter and introduced herself, "Aubry Smith, barista-extraordinaire."
He shook her hand. "Pleasant to meet you, I'm Jacob" Jake politely greeted.
"Yeah, I got that," Aubry chuckled. "Brooke did say your name. Speaking of Brooke… Girl, your shift starts in, like, two minutes. You'd better get over here!"
Brooke frowned at her friend. Turning back to Jake, she apologized, "I'm sorry, I've got to go. Feel free to get something for yourself, though."
"It's alright," he assured her. "…Kiss?"
"Sure," Brooke agreed with a smile. She reached up to give Jacob a quick peck on his lips, and the smile remained when she pulled away. "I'll see you in a few hours, okay?"
Jake grinned like a lovesick dork. "You bet."
(Sorry, I was eating supper!)
"Don't forget to eat something!" Brooke told him as she walked into the back room to change into her work clothes.
(It's alright!)
He nodded and turned to to Aubry, still beaming. "I will have a iced chai and blueberry muffin, if I may."
"Of course," Aubry said as she started to get his order ready. Once it was finished, she handed it to him. "I'm assuming you'll be wanting Brooke's discount?"
"I suppose so…" he shrugged.
Aubry tapped a few things into the iPad they used as a computer screen. "Okay, your total will be $5.47," she declared. "So. How long have you two been dating? I haven't heard her say anything about a boyfriend before. Though she has talked about her best friend a lot. And by 'a lot' I mean, like, she mentions you almost every day."
"R-Really?" He flushed. "We uh… just started recently. It's still pretty new…" As in, they just started yesterday.
He took his order and have her the needed money. "Thanks."
