Hunter cursed. She pulled her sleeve back to reveal the snake, which was growing. It cooled around her waist, hissing and spitting venom, and she stuck her hand in her pocket, griping the handle of her weapon. She jumped when the fiat hit the ground, and jumped away, then on top of it.
Kye was holding his dagger and was facing the Kelmurie. His eyes were closed and he was listening to their heart beats and breathing. One lunged and her easily side stepped to avoid the attack. He wasn't really one for fighting to solve a problem, he preferred to talk it out. That wasn't an option here and there was no way he was going to die here.
Hunter ran up the fist, and the arm, to the giant that it belonged to. She hissed a command, and the snake grew larger and larger, until it was as wide as the giant’s arm. It bit at the giant over and over, pumping venom into his veins. The giant collapsed, and Hunter jumped and rolled to the ground, giving herself only a few scratches. The snake returned to her waist, shrinking slightly.
By this point Kye had taken out two of the three Kelmurie. The third was backing away in fear. Kye lunged and slit it's throat without a second thought. Not showing even a hint of mercy. He looked at Hunter but said nothing. He turned and continued through the cavern headed for the third and final room.
Hunter landed neatly and followed him. She was disappointed that she hadn’t gotten to fight, but she guessed that jumping off a falling giant was good enough. She jogged to catch up, but as she passed the corpses of the Kelmurie, she knelt down and cut one of their eyeballs from its socket, closing her eyes as she did. She put the eyeball in her pocket-you never knew when it could come in handy-and hurried after Kye.
Kye moved into the next room, fast and silent. He slowly slowed down to a halt, and pulled back a little. He pulled one of the granite pieces from his satchel and threw it at the wall. Instantly a beam of red light shot across the cave leaving a hole in the wall on the other side. "Yeah, I'd rather stay in one piece thanks."
Hunter narrowly dodged the red light. “Thanks!” She called up sarcastically.
"Oh, sorry, I keep forgetting that I have someone with me. That is my fault," he apologized.
“Clearly,” she said with a snort. She moved up next to him. “What’s wrong? Why did you stop? And what was that red light?”
"I would assume that this is one of those magical defenses Order was talking about. And it definitely wants us dead," Kye replied distractedly. "I just do not know how to get past it."
Hunter bit her lip in thought. “Does it only flash when it senses something moving?”
"I think so," Kye responded. He moved a little to the spot where the beam was coming from. "We could see how well the granite works, and try to plug the hole here."
"Maybe," Hunter said. "But if the granite doesn't work, we may have to take some drastic measures."
"You push me out in front of that thing, and I will haunt you forever. I will become a ghost, and I will follow you around talking about whatever I can think of to talk about," Kye smiled as he looked at her. "And you will be the only one that will be able to see or hear me."
She laughed. “I’m sure you will. But I might just do that if you annoy me too much.” She picked up a rock and tossed it.
Kye caught the rock and threw it full force at the hole in the wall. The cavern shook a little when the rock lodged into place. Kye breathed out slowly. "Well at least it didn't blow up on us," he sighed. Just then the whole cavern shook again and the wall blew out, throwing both Kye and Hunter about sixty five feet away.
“You jinxed us. Again.” Hunter grunted as she sat up, blinking back dizziness. She had gotten a few scrapes and bruises, but nothing serious. “You just seem to be bad luck.”
"I was bad luck before I was even born," Kye breathed pushing himself up. "I am, a magnet for it. Are you hurt?"
“Nothing serious,” she said with a shrug. “And I know what you mean about being a bad luck magnet.” She gestured around her. “I mean, I met you, so…” she realized that she had actually cracked a joke, and paled slightly, before standing and brushing herself off. “Why do you think it did that?” She asked, changing the subject.
"Likely, whatever causes that beam is more like a gun than anything else. If you know what a gun is and how it works," he glanced at her. "I don't think there is any magic in this cave. Aside from you anyway. Just advanced technology. The way a gun works it when the bullet goes into the barrel it's hit by a little pin hard enough to spark the gunpowder and cause a build up of pressure. That pressure is what thrusts the bullet down the barrel, and out of the gun. When something stops the bullet from getting out of the barrel that pressure has nowhere to go and so it causes the gun to explode on itself. That's essentially what happened here. Just… bigger." He looked at the place where the beam had been coming from. "I think it's safe to say that it won't be working anymore though. I wonder though…" he staggered forward slightly before gaining his balance and going to check out the whole. He looked inside for a moment, and then climbed in. "I thought so."
“Of course I know what a gun is,” Hunter scoffed. “I live on Earth most of the time.” Then she furrows her brows. “What did you think?” She watched as he crept through the hole, and raised an eyebrow. “And you did that… how?”
"I threw a rock into the opening and lodged it good enough to block the pressure in and blow it apart," Kye replied from inside the hole. "Hello…" He could be heard moving around slightly. "That's new…"
Hunter blinked. “Okay. And… you know what? I’m not even going to ask how.” She went after him. “What is it?”
"I blow things up a lot, I know these things," Kye said he was looking at something metal that was on the ground. There was a lot of metal littering the floor, it was in chunks and was everywhere. "Look at this symbol," he pointed to the piece of metal he was looking at. "I've seen this before. It's from an earth company. A not good earth company."
“An earth company?” Hunter looked confused. “Like, they make dirt?”
