“Which room?” Order asked. “And I can help you with that.” She pointed to the oil, and snapped her fingers. The bottle filled, and she smiled with satisfaction. “And the granite would be up there.” She pointed to ther roof of the cavern.
"The room I'm going to be breaking into," Kye responded. He took out a small brush and began layering the oil on his dagger.
You know that's damaging to the blade.
And you know that I would prefer replace a dagger than die.
He began climbing the wall of the cavern and came up to the granite. There he pulled a big chunk off and tossed it down. "Heads," he warned pulling another chunk down.
Hunter caught one of them and stared at it blankly.
Order sighed. “I do, but it does not have the layout of the traps. I suppose I could tell you where some of them are, but only some.”
"I just need to know the layout of the room itself. I will be able to tell where the traps are once I know that," Kye called down to them. He pulled another piece down. "I will explain this when we get there do not ask."
Mind telling me what you're planning?
I will tell you when we get there.
We're gonna die.
Shut up.
Order moved to a dark corner of the room, which was entirely covered in shelves of scrolls. She picked one out and tossed it to him.
Kye caught it almost without looking. He was climbing down the wall now. About half way down he jumped off the wall, landing in a roll on the ground. He looked at the scroll for a moment before putting it into his satchel. He pulling his satchel over his shoulder and looked at Hunter. "Ready to go?"
“Let’s go,” she said, her mouth twitching slightly at the ease in which he moved. “Do you want your sweatshirt back?”
"No, you can keep it for the moment. I do not get really cold and if I have to fight I definitely will not be cold," Kye replied politely. He wasn't sure if she knew that she didn't have a shirt on under it. "I grew up in the high mountains. It is just as cold up there as it is down here." He walked to the doorway, and looked back. "If we are not back in about six to eight hours then something probably went wrong. And if we are not back by tomorrow, then we probably died so…" he shrugged before walking out and waiting for Hunter.
You are a ray of sunshine, you know that right?
Yeah I know. Thanks for noticing though!
Hunter snorted with faint amusement. She knew that he was just saying that because he did t want to see her shirtless. She felt as though she should be offended. After all, Order did have some extra clothes. But she was thankful, none the less. The extra clothes were probably all dresses, and she hated dresses. She would rather go naked than wear a dress.
Pulling her dark hair from her face, she slipped something into the palocket of the hoodie and followed after him, her finger last I. The pocket, clutching her weapon of choice.
Kye nodded to Hunter briefly before turning and heading towards the cave room where he was most likely to die. If his plan worked than he wouldn't die, but that was only if his plan worked and he wasn't really used to working with anyone else. But he figured Hunter could take care of herself, and she wouldn't want to be left with Order. Not that there was anything wrong with Order, but he sensed a little tension between the two.
Would you like to tell me how you plan to not die?
I mean… If I die, I die.
That's not the point!
I plan to try not to die and will not complain if I do.
Could you be more positive? For like five minutes? No, not even five minutes, just one minute? One minute? Please?
Okay, I am positive that there is a chance that I will die!
(That is beautiful.)
Hunter wove her way through passages in the dark hall, her fingers still clenched in her pockets. She was glad that she had decided to join him. She couldn’t stand being in the same room as Order. Because of the snake. She should have known. Hunter had told her countless times. And she could still feel the snake curled around her arm, like a guard dog. Or a shackle.
(Thank you, I try.)
Kye brought them to a stop near the entrance to a bigger cave opening. He pulled out the scroll, lit his torch and began examining it closely.
We're at the cave… Are you going to explain your "brilliant" plan now?
Shut up.
"Hunter take a look at this," he pointed to a gap divot in the wall on the map.
“What about it?” She moved closer.
"Listen closely," he said letting silence settle around them. "That is not there anymore. Either something caved in or that is a trap. I can also hear several things breathing in there. They sound like they are sleeping, but I can not be sure." He moved slightly, cocking his head and listening again. "There is something here, here, and here," he pointed to places on the map that showed nothing. "And there is something here. Looks like it is split into three rooms. That could be good, and it could be a pain in the arse. We will find that out when we go in."
“Could there have been a mistake on the map? Order has been known to mess things up. A lot.” And how is she supposed to help us with Chaos?
"I met her today," Kye shrugged. "I have no clue if she is right or not, but it is better to be somewhat prepared than not prepared at all. Okay what powers to you posses?" He looked up at her inquisitively.
She stared at the ground. Clearly, it was a sore subject for her. “Worldjumping.” She sighed, looking back up at him. “And I can spot weaknesses in things and just how to ruin them, how to break them, how to kill them.”
"And this is a bad thing?" Kye was looking at her face. There was something in his eyes that was impossible to read, but something that had never been there before.
What are you doing? Can you not see that she doesn't like the subject? You got your answer, drop it.
Shut your mouth you do not know what I am doing.
Hunter turned away, her face blank. “I can kill someone in the most painful way imaginable with a simple flick. I can find the weaknesses in their heart and shatter them with a single word. I can bring down a mountain on a village of innocent people, and kill entire civilizations with a blink.”
"But you are not doing that right now. And you get to choose if you do or do not, right?" he still had the look in his eyes. It was like he knew something. And he wasn't saying it.
“Depends,” she said bitterly, “on how dear old Dad is feeling.”
A sad smile crept onto Kye's face. "I can almost guarantee that you are a better person than you would like to think you are."
Hunter snorted. “I’m not a good person. Remember those people in the village? They fear me, because of what I can do. And one quester I was supposed to help made me angry, and I killed him. The worst part? I don’t regret it. One bit.”
"But you are still a better person than you think you are. I can give you more proof than you think is there," Kye sounded more calm than anyone possibly could knowing that they could die in this next fight.
Hunter rolled her eyes. “Yeah right. I know you want to see the good in people, but the only good in me is that I’m not trying to take over the world.” She sighed. “And I’m so much like my father I might as well,” she muttered.
