"You saved my life. Twice," Kye said plainly. "You were patient with me when I was being an utter fool. When I was pushing my luck, telling you to let me treat your wounds, you didn't kill me. You are willing to see other sides to things, even if you don't like them. And you are currently trying to save this world and other worlds like it. I would call that good. And it wasn't hard to find any of that."
“Because I have no choice,” Hunter said with a growl. Coming to a decision, she pulled her sleeve up, revealing the snake wrapped around her arm. “Do you know what type of snake this is?” She asked.
"I am afraid I have never seen or heard anything about a snake like that before. As other people would put it, I live under a rock. And am a sheltered child," Kye replied shaking his head. He seemed slightly disappointed in himself.
She smiled slightly, despite herself. “I am sure that no one has ever heard of this snake and this is that it is anything more than a myth. This snake is called a silverhead adder, and it is the sacre animal of my father. Silverheads hate anything my father does, and Order knows it, which is why I’m extremely angry as to why she revealed it. This snake hates her. It may seem beautiful and innocent, but this snake is more a chain and a prison trhan anything else. It allows my father to control me, and it will attempt to destroy anything I like.”
"Well then I think I am in the clear," Kye said more to himself than to Hunter. He stood up and rolled the scroll up, placing it into his satchel. He then pulled his dagger out and faced the door. "I learned early on that no one likes me, so…" he trailed off and didn't finish. "You probably want to know what my plan is. I can tell at the moment that in this first room, there are three large beings. Based on their breathing patterns they are asleep. But that does not mean they will stay that way when we go in there. I chose to hall a bunch of granite with me because it is the hardest rock known, at the moment, and is good at blocking things. So we could use it to trigger of block traps without having to place ourselves in to much danger. Other than that, fight and try not to die."
That is your big battle plan?
Yeah, why?
Fight and try not to die?!
Yeeeaaah, is that a bad thing?
I am going to die, because you are going to die, and you are the reason I'm not dying.
And your point is?
I chose the wrong person to use to keep me alive.
Awe, come on, you love me and you know it.
No, I'm pretty sure I don't love you.
Hunter nodded. She was glad he didn’t pursue the matter further, though when he said that no one like him, she just rolled her eyes. Listening carefully, she caught the breathing patterns and stiffened. “Leviathans,” she whispered. “They sleep very lightly, so the slightest noise will wake them up. We’re going to have to be careful.”
"That would not be a problem for me, in the slightest actually," Kye walked over to the cave entrance. "I can get into anything without getting caught. It is the getting out that usually gets me caught."
She snickered. “Well, we should just make sure that you dont get caught on the way out.” Pulling the sleeve of his sweatshirt back over the snake, she followed him.
He moved through the cave in complete silence. He knew he could move through it without a sound he could only hope that Hunter could to. From previous silence, he figured she probably could. But he knew that rock made more sound than grass so he couldn't help but worry a little.
(Worrywart lol)
Hunter crept quietly behind him. Her fingers were in the hoodie pocket, clenched around something in there. Hopefully, it would save her life, but then again, her skill with it was a bit rusty.
Kye reached the other end of the room and glanced back at the creatures to make sure they were still asleep. Then he slipped into the next room.
Hunter heard a quiet hiss and went to investigate… and nearly swore. She darted after Kye, as fast and as quietly as she could.
Kye turned back hearing the hiss, and looked back to see Hunter darting towards him silently. His heart sunk when he realized why she was probably running towards him.
Kelmurie, she mouthed. H fearsome snake warriors were like children of Medusa. Smaller, perhaps, but just as deadly, and with a wicked sense of smell.
Shit.
Watch your god damn language.
Says while swearing…. Any ideas?
You could use plan B.
…. I thought you said plan B would get me killed.
I did, because I think everything could get you killed.
True. He looked at Hunter and mouthed. "Let's keep going and see if we can't ditch them."
She nodded, but her hand strayed back into her pocket. It wasn’t the best idea, but it was better than any she could ever have around them. She had had many run-ins with Kelmurie, and wanted to avoid them at all costs.
Kye turned and disappeared into the darkness silently. he made sure every once in a while that Hunter was still able to follow him. He spent enough time in caves that he didn't really have to worry about them being able to smell him. He smelled like the cave. Hunter on the other hand didn't seem to like caves and therefore didn't spend time in them. She probably didn't smell like the cave.
Hunter almost tripped over a rock, but caught herself and cursed in her head. It was never a good idea to not watch where you were going.
Kye led them carefully through the winding cavern. He suddenly stopped and didn't move for a moment. In the next moment he'd turned on his heel and jumped into Hunter taking them both down to the ground. The ground, where they had been, was ripped out and torn apart by something flinging out of the ground. Kye breathed out slowly. "I think it's safe to say that we've lost the element of surprise."
“I think you’re right,” Hunter said, her hand inching back towards her pocket.
Kye stood up and looked at the torn up ground before turning and offering his hand to Hunter. "We should get moving."
“We should.” She excepted his hand without a thought, watching behind them. Sure enough, she saw the gleam of gold and looked away quickly. “Can you fight wh your eyes closed?” She asked.
"I mean pretty much on the daily fighting in pitch black. What is the difference?" He shrugged. "What did you have in mind?"
“Because they found us,” she said, pointing behind her without looking. “And they’re gaining on us. And you really, really don’t want to look into their eyes.”
"Yeah, medusa relatives and such, I've had a run in with medusa before, it was not fun," he sighed. He looked up and suddenly grabbed Hunter's hand jumping back as a giant fist smashed the place where they had been. "Shit!"
