Hunter was still asleep. She had been, too, for the last two hours, and if she had realized that, she would have been furious she thought herself.
Hunter was still asleep. She had been, too, for the last two hours, and if she had realized that, she would have been furious she thought herself.
Kye moved slightly and tried standing up. No luck doing that right now. So he pushed himself into a sitting position so he could wait for Hunter to get up. He pulled his satchel next to him and pulled out his torch. He lit it and set it down allowing the fire to both warm them and light up the cave around them.
Hunter awoke when she heard the sound of rummaging. She rubbed her eyes and cursed. “I shouldn’t’ve fallen asleep,” She grumbled to herself. “Get a grip on yourself, Hunter.” She noticed that Kye was awake, and she gave him a small nod. “You okay?” She asked.
"I was thrown like a rag-doll around the cave a few times," he replied looking at her. "Yeah. I am doing just dandy."
She snorted. “I can tell. You seem very fine. Do you want something to eat?” She asked, standing. “I’m going to get some fish. There’s a lake near here.”
Kye was quiet for a moment before he sighed. "Fish would be nice. Do you want me to accompany you or should I stick around here and get a real fire going?"
“You can stay,” Hunter said. And before he could argue, she added, “Plus, I need time alone and you’re better with fire than I’ll ever be.”
"Okay," Kye nodded. He started pulling some left over branches that he still had out of his satchel "Just do me a favor."
“What?” Hunter paused as she was about to leave.
"Just… be careful," he said before going back to making a fire. Not looking at her at all.
“Whatever,” Hunter muttered. She headed out, rubbing the sleep from her tired eyes, to the lake. She managed to get a couple of fish easily, by using some of the leftover bandages, and started to carry them back.
Kye had a fire going and was leaned back against the rocks. His face twisted with pain as he shifted slightly. He bit his lip and didn't make a sound.
Kye, what's wrong? There is something wrong with you physically, what is it?
I'm pretty sure I have internal bleeding near one of my lungs but I'm not positive.
(Well… damnit Kye.)
Hunter came back and saw Kye’s face pale slightly and bite his lip in pain. She moved closer to him, and could instantly feel the waves of heat coming off of him. He was burning up. “Are you okay?” She asked calmly, pretending to gut the fish.
"Sure," he replied.
Sure? The answer you are looking for is, no I'm not okay. I'm slowly bleeding out on the inside.
I'll be fine. I've had worse and you know it.
Yeah, and you also were in the company of the greatest healer of all time.
Hunter snorted. She raised an eyebrow at him. “You look like you’re just dandy,” she said sarcastically. “Ne me ment pas.”
Kye shook his head and shifted position. "We need to get that key and get out of here fast," he grunted. "The faster we get Order and get out of here, the better off we'll both be."
“I will go on the quest myself if I have to,” Hunter threatened, “if you don’t tell me what’s wrong.”
"You never technically asked what's wrong," Kye mumbled under his breath. Then he sighed and shifted. "Internal bleeding. Maybe. I'm not sure, but it feels like it right around my lung."
“Of course,” Hunter said, rolling her eyes. “And you didn’t think to tell me earlier? I’m not going to cut your head off if you get hurt. If you’re hurt, tell me.”
She rubbed her face. “He’s just like Justin.”
"I said I wasn't sure," Kye kept a calm voice. "I'm still not sure. I don't want to tell you I have an injury that I don't have. And if we get that key and get back to Order she can heal most of my injuries."
“You’re hopeless,” Hunter said in exasperation. She dropped a price of meat in his lap and walked out of the cave, her jaw clenched in frustration.
Kye, twisted around and pushed himself up to his feet. Against everything in him screaming for him to stay down. "Hunter," he called after her. "The longer we wait the worse this is going to get."
“I know that!” Hunter called back. “But you aren’t making this easier, and I need to think. Now be quiet.” She tilted her head, listening intently.
Kye fell silent and began listening as well. He didn't know what he was listening for but he was pretty sure it wasn't gonna be anything good.
A rattling sounded, gradually growling louder. Hunter heard it and cursed. She recognized the noise, and was not happy at all. “Kye,” she called quietly. “Stay down and quiet.”
