It was nearing dinner time when Kasey finally had to stop. Although she knew she should really eat something beforehand, she just wasn't feeling up to it. The closer and closer it got to the time she was supposed to meet Matt, the more queasy her stomach began to feel.
Eventually, she had to lay down on the couch to fight the feelings of sickness. Hopefully, they would soon pass.
Liam sighed and set away his music stuff and turned on the TV to the news where they were covering the fight. It looked like Matt was already there and Liam tried not to break his ruler in anger.
Kasey fell asleep for a few minutes before her alarm to get ready went off. She groaned at sat up, running her fingers through her hair to tame it a bit.
Getting off the couch, she went to her room and grabbed the bag that held her disguise. She fed Quake, left Harper a note reminding him where she would be, and left the apartment.
Once she was a good distance away from the building, and not too close to where she would meet Matt, she changed into her outfit. She checked her mask to make sure it was on tightly, then started toward the meeting place.
There was a pretty decent sized crowed gathered around but a fair enough distance away from Matt where he stood, swinging around some weapon. He had a smug grin plastered on his face as he waited for Kasey to show, if not he would go straight to the nearest reporter and reveal her identity.
Kinesie silently walked through the crowd to Matt. Once she had reached him, she raised a few stones and let them swirl around her feet.
"Why did you call me here?" she demanded, loud enough for the crowd behind her to hear.
Matt laughed, "You know why, didn't you see the news article? If you want you secret identity to remain a secret you're going to have to kill me, Kinesie. If not well… then everyone will know."
"Yeah, I know that. But why do you care so much?" Kinesie asked, putting a hand on her hip as she glared at him.
Matt shook his head, "It doesn't matter. I want you and all the other supers dead." He said, pointing his gun at Kinesie.
"I don't want to kill you, Matt," Kinesie said, her voice holding a warning.
"See that's your weakness. What most supers weakness is. They don't want to kill. Sorry, that's just how the world works these days. People die, get over it." Matt spat.
Kinesie's fingers twitched as she glared at Matt, silently assessing him.
"Just because the world says it's okay, doesn't mean that it is," she argued calmly. Her voice most certainly didn't match how she felt inside. How was she going to end this?
"You saying death isn't okay? All I'm doing is binging a few people's deaths forward a little, nothing major." Matt replied, shrugging a shoulder.
Objects floated up behind Matt as Kinesie had an idea.
"Death is a part of life, so no, I'm not saying that it isn't okay. Murder on the other hand, is different. That is not okay," she declared, her fingers twitching more and more until she just balled her hand into a fist.
"What's the difference?" Matt smirked and fired a shot at Kasey.
Kasey's eyes widened momentarily as she barely stopped the bullet from hitting her. She let it drop to the ground as she glared at Matt. Pieces of stone and pebbles and other small, miscellaneous items continued to draw closer to him.
"The difference is that one is natural, while the other is purposefully done by someone," she spat.
"It's still the same outcome so I don't get why one is bad and the other isn't." Matt replied, shooting again.
"Because you don't get to have a say in when people die and when they don't!" Kinesie exclaimed, tossing the bullet out if the way like it was nothing this time. She added it to the mass that still swirled around her feet, and she made the objects behind Matt rise up to hover over him.
"You're too good. I will never understand why people want to do good for others. It's a waste of time." Matt said, waving a hand idly.
"It's worth it, though. Even if no one notices, it's still worth it," Kinesie declared vehemently. The mass hovering above Matt split and wrapped around him like a boa constrictor, holding him in place and effectively keeping his arms at his sides.
Matt struggled and managed to fire the gun out of the mass, trying to break free of it's grasp, "You're still going to have to kill me, you know that right?"
Kinesie, not expecting him to be able to shoot through the mass holding him, hissed as the bullet tore through her left leg. She tightened her hold on him, letting the mass completely wrap around him from his neck down.
"Not if I can help it," she said through a pained grimace.
Matt smirked, "Didn't expect you to get shot, did you? As long as I'm alive then you identity remains as risk. Same with that boyfriend of yours, you'd be better off killing him too so he doesn't let the secret slip."
"He wouldn't do that," Kinesie spat. "And if you don't stop talking I'll cover your mouth, too."
"Are you sure he wouldn't? Be honest Kinesie, do you really trust him?" He asked, shooting out again and kicking the hole with his knee as best he could.
This hot barely missed her this time, which she was thankful for.
"Of course I trust him!" Kinesie shouted, quickly covering the hole with more debris. Even as she said it, though, she could feel the unpleasant thoughts worming their way into her mind. She frowned and covered Matt's mouth, wrapping it around him tightly.
"If I could get some backup over here, that would be really great!" she called over her shoulder to the police officers who lined the crowd.
