Madeline's eyes found Kasey's, and the younger girl shrugged a little with a small nod. The doctor sighed and turned back to Kyle. "I've got healing powers, but they hurt both me and the one I'm using them on. That's why I don't use it much, and why I didn't use them on you, Kasey, when you came in."
Kyle nodded in understanding, “Right, okay… that sucks but healing is pretty cool.”
"It is," Dr. Willows agreed with a small smile. "It's one of the reasons I became a doctor, actually.
"But that's all beside the point. You both need to get out! Shoo! Let me work!" she laughed slightly, waving them away.
Kyle raised his hands on surrender, backing out the room, “Yes Doctor.” He gave Liam one last glance before he left.
Kasey looked down at Liam, passed out cold on the hospital bed. She turned her eyes to her brother’s girlfriend, who gave her a soft smile.
“Go. He’ll be okay. I’ll make sure of it,” Madeline assured her gently. Kasey sighed and nodded slowly before making her way out of the room.
Kyle was pacing outside of the room already. Even with Madeline’s reassurances, he was still worried, not as much as Kasey probably was, though.”
Kasey leaned against the wall opposite the room where Liam was. Her gaze stayed fixed on the door the entire time Madeline was working on him, as she was unable to tear her eyes from it.
Kyle counted the minutes that Madeline worked on Liam. It gave him something to focus on and not how bad his wounds had been. He didn’t doubt Liam would have scars from them.
A few minutes later — or was it an hour? Kasey had lost track — Madeline appeared from the room. She looked between Kasey, from where she was across the hall, and Kyle, who seemed to have been pacing.
“I’ve finished. He’s still asleep, though,” she said softly, causing the younger woman’s shoulders to loosen from heir tenseness. “But you can go in.”
“I’ll wait out here,” Kyle said, looking to Kasey, “You see him first.”
Kasey shot a glance toward Kyle and gave him a tiny, grateful smile. “Thank you,” she breathed before quickly stepping into the room. Her gaze immediately landed on the man she loved, and she crossed the room to him.
Liam’s breathing was steady, his hands laying limply by his side. He was slightly paler then usual, but it would return to normal soon enough. He did have scars, the one across his face being the most visible.
Kasey took his hand gently in her own, bringing it up to her lips to give it a soft kiss. “Please wake up soon…” she whispered.
Liam didn’t wake up, not for a while. After hours, how many is uncertain but finally, his fingers twitched ever so slightly. His eyes started to flutter open as he took in a stuttering breath.
Kasey had pulled a chair over to his bedside and sat down in it. With his hand still held in hers, she’d fallen asleep as she waited for him to wake up. It must have been all the stress from earlier, combined with her own fainting. She didn’t even awake when Liam stirred, but simply kept sleeping.
Liam adjusted to the brightness of the room, aware of the small aches on his arms and chest and also very aware of Kasey right next to him. He smiled softly, rubbing his thumb over the back of her hand gently.
Kasey shifted slightly, her head dropping off of her arm where it had been resting. She blinked her eyes open slowly and immediately felt Liam’s thumb. Her gaze traveled from the floor to his hand, and then up his arm to his face. She smiled when she saw his open eyes and gently squeezed his hand.
“Hey… You’re awake,” she murmured quietly.
Liam squeezed her hand back, though it was weak, “Yeah, I am… How are you feeling?”
“Me? I’m fine. It’s you who I should be asking if you’re okay,” Kasey chuckled softly, holding his hand with both now.
Liam smiled at her and shook his head just a little, “I’m allowed as your boyfriend to ask you how you’re feeling. Is that a crime now?”
“No… But I wasn’t the one who passed out from blood loss,” Kasey reminded him gently, smiling a little.
Liam shrugged a little and waved one hand slowly, waving off the statement, "Technicalities," He sighed, "How long was I out for?"
Kaaey tolled her eyes good naturedly. "A few hours… Gosh, I'm so glad you're okay," she breathed, bringing his hand up to press another kiss to it.
Liam smiled at her, giving her hand a small squeeze in reassurance, "I'm glad I'm okay, too. And I'm glad you're okay."
Kasey gave him a tiny smile and sighed. “Yeah… Madeline didn’t say when you can come home, but… I hope it’s soon.”
