It didn't take long before the reached the apartment, the lift carrying them to the right floor easily, only when they were a few doors away, Liam frowned and noticed that their own door was open slightly.
Kasey narrowed her eyes at the door. “Please tell me we just forgot to close the door before we left,” she muttered.
"That's what I'm hoping." Liam replied, cautiously walking over and pushing the door open.
Kasey followed close behind him. If anything jumped out at them, she would be ready. A few things were already floating nearby, a sign that her powers were there when they needed them.
The room was trashed. Papers and other items were strewn over the floor, picture frames were broken with the pictures scattered around. The TV was there, but Liam's computer was gone.
“Oh… My… Gosh…” Kasey breathed as she looked around the room. “We should call the police. Right now.”
"I'm going to check the other rooms," Liam switched on the light an winced at the mess, "You call while I do that."
Kasey frowned slightly and pulled her phone out. “I still want to walk with you. Neither of us should be here alone until we know it’s empty.”
Liam nodded slowly, "Yeah. Yeah that's a good idea."
“Okay. Good,” Kasey murmured before dialing the number.
They entered the bedroom slowly, the room trashed like the living room. Luckily, it didn't look like anything was taken.
"911, what's you emergency?" a lady's voice answered after a moment.
"Someone broke into my apartment," Kasey explained.
Liam sighed as he quickly searched the bathroom, the only thing broken was the mirror luckily, "There's no one here."
Kasey nodded in acknowledgment to Liam’s response and continued talking to the lady on the phone. As soon as they were done, she thanked her and hung up.
“They’re sending someone over right now,” she explained, stepping closer to Liam.
Liam sighed and nodded, "Okay. I can't believe someone broke in. Then again, it could have happened to anyone."
“I know… Oh, gosh. What if it’s because of me? What if someone, knowing who I am, broke in here because I moved in with you?” Kasey wondered, worry swimming in her eyes.
"Hey, I'm sure that's not the reason," Liam reassured her gently, "It was probably just some random who picked a random apartment."
Kasey chewed on her lip, nodding slowly. “I hope so… Gosh, I hope so…” she whispered.
Liam kissed her forehead softly, "I know so."
“I’m sorry if this is because of me,” Kasey murmured, wrapping her arms around Liam and resting her forehead on his chest.
"Hey, I don't care if it was," Liam replied, running a hand through her hair, "But I doubt it was, love."
Kasey sighed, nodding with her head still on his chest. “We should clean up after the cops get here.”
"I know, we will." Liam rested his chin atop her head.
“I can’t believe this happened,” Kasey murmured under her breath. She buried her face in his shoulder with a deep sigh, still feeling like it was her fault.
"Me neither. But it could have happened to anyone, at any point. Luckily it looks like they only took the computer." Liam wrapped his arms tighter around her.
