After a moment of silence while Alex regained their breath, Remi took one of the croquettes from the bag and ate it. He waited for them to take one before finally answering the question. “Don’t wander off, okay? I don’t want to spend my time searching for you.”
That was a yes, right? It sounded like an approval in Remi’s mind, but then again his thoughts never did translate clearly into spoken words. “Did you want to see something in particular?”
Alex took one of the croquettes and popped it into their mouth with little care for manners. They finished it up and nodded to Remi's request. For them it sounded like he was saying they could stick with him which made them fairly happy. They thought for a moment before answering his second question, "Not really. If it was up to me, I, uh, would still be at the manor."
“Why are you here then?” Remi folded over the top of the bag to keep the food somewhat warm and started walking, making sure Alex wasn’t far from him. To be honest, the only reason he was at the festival was because his family were there. Though his parents would have forced him to attend it sooner or later, it had been 5 years since he had last attended the Mardi Gras——he never had a reason to be there.
"Mom and dad were going to force me to come this year," Alex walked with him and tried to keep in pace with him. A loose strand of hair flew in front of her hair and she brushed it back behind her ear. She let out a little sigh as she looked around the festival before looking back to Remi, "So I came on my own instead."
The man glanced down at Alex with a wry smile. “I don’t see all the fuss really.” He tucked one hand back into his pocket while the other held the bag close to his chest. “The only decent part of this is the fireworks, and we can see those from our windows.”
Remi came to a steady halt, his eyes focusing on one of the stalls not too far away. More importantly, his eyes caught onto a pair of masks. He turned to Alex with no apparent emotion on his face. “Would you wear a mask?”
Alex nodded to his comments about the fireworks. The fireworks were always beautiful and they made much less noise back at the manor, they assumed, than in town, “I wouldn’t be opposed to it.” Their eyes caught onto the masks Remi was talking about, “Especially if its those masks.”
With a short nod, Remi handed the croquette bag to Alex and made his way over to the stall, requesting to buy the two masks that had caught his eye. The vendor paused for a moment while handing the masks to him.
“Say, you look vaguely familiar. Have we met before?”
Remi looked down at the man as he passed over the money from his leather pouch. “I doubt it, I’m not much of a people person.”
“Oh my God you’re——“
Remi pressed his index finger to his lips, silently telling the man to keep his voice down. The last thing he wanted was for some commoner to bring unwanted attention to himself or Alex.
The vendor nodded silently and smiled nervously. “Enjoy the festivities!”
With the masks in hand, Remi walked back over to Alex and held them out. “Which one do you want?”
Alex took the bag and made their way a little closer to the stall, so that they wouldn’t be breaking their earlier promise. They overheard the exchange and almost went into high alert but didn’t given Remi had it handled. Still it didn’t help their nerves which seemed to hate all the noise made from the festival.
They exchanged the bag of croquettes for the more femine-esque mask with a light smile on. They placed the mask on their face making sure it was secure, “I’ll take this one. How does it look?”
Remi stopped for a moment, tilting his head to the side while he looked at the mask on Alex. He straightened up with a firm nod. “I wouldn’t say it’s not decent. You have the right face for it.”
Okay, that sounded a lot better in his head, but surely Alex knew what he meant. Now came the task of putting on his own mask; a mask that would require him to remove his sunglasses. But it was night time now, surely no one would see his eyes even without the mask.
The man glanced around, making sure no one was looking as he clamped his eyes shut and removed his glasses. He swiftly brought the mask to his face, and once he was certain it was on properly, he opened his eyes. The world was a lot brighter without his sunglasses, so much so that he found himself squinting a little while they adjusted. Only a few seconds passed before he was able to see properly again through un-squinted eyes.
“So uh..” Words began to fail Remi as he looked back down at Alex. Gods he was a mess when it came to socialising, even with family members. “What shall we do now?”
Fio looked over at his siblings. This is why I cannot trust you. He thought, shaking his head. Because you don't listen, even when it's important. He hated that he couldn't rely on his siblings the same way they could rely on him; because Emi was a loose cannon that wouldn't shoulder any responsibility even if asked, and Lou…Lou was off in her own world half the time, or so it appeared to him. Which left Fio as the only one doing his job, the only one picking up the pieces and assisting their father. He was going to work himself into his grave. He needed breaks, needed sleep, but he didn't even get that much, because if he asked either of his siblings to help, they vanished. Especially Emi. If he asked his brother to help, to shoulder some of the burden, Emi "forgot". Or he was conveniently missing at the time he was supposed to be working. Which meant that Fio worked himself to exhaustion, and then wasn't even allowed a full night's sleep, because his siblings always needed to drag him along.
(By the way, I added some stuff to Fio's template)
Alex gave him a little smile at the sort of compliment given by Remi though it took a moment for their head to understand what he had said. They watched as Remi put on the mask knowing how much it took for him to take off his sunglasses. They didn't talk a lot to their siblings, but they understood enough from observing the others quietly. With a big smile they gave Remi an encouraging look before looking around the festival. They really didn't know what else to do, they got food, they got a mask, what else was there? "Ummm, I, uh, don't know? Sorry."
(Im not going to be on tomorrow so if I missed something ill just go back.)
(Mmkay.)
"Look, let's avoid this whole situation and go meet the Zoe boys already. I was supposed to meet them ten minutes ago," Delphi intervened impatiently, trying to cut off everyone over the loud noise of the festival. It seemed as if the parade would be starting soon, many of the dancers leaving to get dressed for their specific floats, and shop vendors boasting new beaded necklaces…plenty of space to make their way to the bar. But most of all, she wanted to avoid a conflict with Seraphine. The last thing she wanted was her older sister scolding her in front of a bunch of strangers.
"I second that," Daus chirped with a small, half crescent smile, making his way over towards Seraphine as he gently put his hand on her arm again, careful not to startle her. "And I trust you boys will be joining us?" As much as he could sense that his siblings did not want the LeTour sibling's there, the best he could do for now was was avoid conflict and keep them where he could see.
Emilio pat Lou's head and declared that he would meet them all there before vanishing behind some stalls. If anyone were to look behind those stalls, he wouldn't be there. He had seemingly vanished into thin air.
In a few minutes, he had found himself in an empty alley. Emilio deeply sighed and almost collapsed against the wall, pushing himself into a sitting position. "Please, just… Stop." He muttered under his breath, rubbing his eyes as if he was trying to rub the memories out of his brain.
((Aa been a while since I’ve responded and very sorry for that. I’ll read over the last few pages then hopefully say something so that I can determine Ester’s current location at the very least lol. Been meaning to respond but I’ve been very low inspiration lately))
The festival, frankly - to Ester was semi-enjoyable, just as many of their family members would probably figure out for her. Indeed, wandering the festival alone from place to place with no one to accompany you could get quite lonely, but Ester was just one of those adaptable people who could deal with either or.
She never really purchased anything, a surprising common thing for Ester. What shopping she typically did was on her own time - her own money, her own stuff. And at the festival, there were many things to enjoy. Ester had stopped by some music players, idly standing by and listening to the music for a bit.
When she’s done, she’s done, and she turns and strides off. Through a few different stalls, Ester looks at each and every one of them, although only one catches her eye. A music box.
Mother had one around when she was younger, although she was never allowed to touch the thing. She wasn’t even sure if father had ever touched it, either. Now, here she was, seeing one again. She’d never quite figured out what happened to the music box in the first place.
She walks forwards, inspecting the box.
It’s quite real, Ester observes, and the designs incarnated upon it are rather high quality. Ester rarely ever saw value in too many things - but this box had caught her attention right away. A box which played quite a short, but delicate tune.
She makes the purchase. It doesn’t take long.
Taking her newly found box into a hand - the music box was not very big at all, maybe just slightly larger than the one mother had - she stands up and away from it. She’s unsure what to do now - maybe she should find her siblings now…
(Yeah, uh, sorry Alex left her.)
((I don’t blame them))
Fio let out a breath when Emi vanished, muttering a curse under his breath. He looked over at Delphi, Daus, and Serafine. "Well. Emi will catch up with us, I suppose." he wasn't going to go looking for his brother; it would be a useless endeavor, he knew. If Emi didn't want to be found, then he would be impossible to locate, and he didn't want to leave Lou alone with the Seers. He didn't quite trust them, and he knew that that mistrust was echoed by the three Seers. "Let's go to the Zoe boys and get our drinks, then."
"Good, I need a drink and a joint," Delphi muttered, turning around abruptly before making her way down the cobbled street. She walked the group further down the town square, trying to dodge dancers, drunk old men, and shop vendors handing out beaded necklaces and scarves. It seemed as if the festivities were going to begin, dancers moving out of the streets to get ready for the parades. Daus followed carefully behind her, holding Seraphine’s arm in order to make sure the other woman would find her step easily through the crowded streets.
After a few moments of walking, the bunch reached a dimly lit building, which appeared to be some sort of run down bar. Pas tres joli, Delphi thought to herself, a soft frown upturning her full lips. Though, a classy place was the last thing she really did expect from the Zoe Boys. All that mattered is that she got what she needed, a few drinks and some information, and then got the hell out of there.
“By the way, be careful with what you touch here. Drinks are fine, just watch them,” Delphi explained as she glanced over her shoulder, sharing a stern look with both Daus and the other Necromancer siblings. She trusted her little brother, but she could never be sure with what the other Zoe boys would try to get him into…especially those LeTours.
“And, please watch who you’re talking to as well. Do not cause problems. The Zoe boys are, how do we put it…pas tres gentil.” Even if Delphi was a professional at finding herself in iffy situations, she never beckoned for them. There was a clear difference between asking for problems and simply receiving them. Plus, she was here to learn about what was happening beyond this town, a request especially from her Grandmere. Not that she would tell her siblings that.
Delphi fixed her ashy braids and chiffon dress before reaching over and readjusting a necklace around Daus’ neck, all from habit. After all, first impressions were everything.
(bumping this)
Fio was silent as they walked, breaking a little bit away from the group to keep an eye out for Emilio. When he bumped into another person, he stepped back, an apology already leaving his mouth. "Ah, sorry sir, I didn't see you there." he said, looking up. The person was taller than him, with strangely colored hair and pale skin.
