The families of old Orlean's are very well known, even if only whispers among the cobbled streets. They have been here for decades, even centuries, known for their festivities and parties, who they have crossed and threatened, perhaps the powers each family is rumored to possess. Each of these four families have stayed out of one another's ways for years, save for a few quarrels here and there, only this solidarity will begin to fracture when the children and descendants of these families meet on a fateful night.
The Families: (In advance, this will be rather long, but it's worth reading in order to make your characters. You don't have to stick very close to what the families are like, but along those lines. )
All of these families are based off of the Creole/Voodoo Culture of New Orleans
The Reapers: Also known as the Catoire family, they are one of the youngest families in old Orleans but have a large reputation for what their ancestors are capable of. The members of this family are big presences, usually the leaders for many decisions in Orlean's. They can have short tempers and strike quickly, having a say in many choices and gathering's, such as many of the parties. Their feature's range from dark browns, auburns, and reds, with striking dark, tawny eyes. The Catoire's have the ability to reap what has been taken from them, easily plucking life from anyone. The tarot cards that rule them are: Justice (the aspects of decisions and karma), Death, and The Tower.
The Necromancer's: Known as the LeTour Family. This is a large family, with many members, but very close knit and family oriented. They are peaceful, but they know exactly how to be heard and to keep their place, staying very headstrong. Justice is incredibly important to them, as well as balance, since it is such an important part of necromancy. LeTour's are known for their darker skin, ranging from caramel to obsidian tones, tawny eyes and the strange marks that they carry with them. This family's powers are strange and dark, giving them the ability to speak and raise armies of the dead…a power that cannot be placed in the wrong hands. Ruled by the Major Arcana Cards; Death, The Hanged Man, Wheel of Fortune, Strength.)
The Seers: Known as the Ardoin Family. Dangerous. That is a word constantly tossed about them in the streets. Their ability to see and perceive, adapt and understand can be lethal, but helpful to those they are allied with. The Ardoin's are also among the oldest families, their history lengthy, as if they've been here from the beginning. Though, they are very small in size, with only a few members. Descendant's of this family can be incredibly odd, though their personalities are versatile and carrying wisdom beyond their ages. Ardoin's are recognized by their lighter features and hair, vitiligo, strange markings, and watery, blue-grey eyes from lack of sight. Ruled by the Major Arcana Cards; The Moon (Dreams, Visions, Fears) The High Priestess and the Fool.
The Shifters: Also known as the Mounier Family.* *This family can be strange, confusing most that meet them. Their ability to shift into lanky creatures, shadows, or even devils can terrify most, earning them a righteous spot in the streets. The Mounier's never quite have family traits that stay the same, some blondes, other brunettes, ranging to obsidian black locks, and the same, ever changing eyes. Be wary of them, for they are never as they seem. Ruled by the Major Arcana Cards; The Hierophant, The Moon, The Devil.
So, overall, my idea is that we can have 1-2 people per family (or even 3 depending on how many people join.) This is set in the 1800's - 1900's and is focalized around the Creole/Voodoo/Tarot Culture there. I think the plot will begin around Mardi Gras, so the families can sort of meet each other. We can come up with a plot as we go, but most families are extremely wary of one another. Try to be as active as possible, and have detailed character's/ responses. Remember, I'm open to any ideas!
