Jay snorted faintly. "Ha. That's true." he replied with a shrug.
Jay snorted faintly. "Ha. That's true." he replied with a shrug.
"Does that mean you want to try going to the farmhouse?" Delia asked, glancing between the two and feeling very much like a little kid asking her parents for something.
Jay shrugged. "I guess so." he turned towards it.
She nodded happily, starting towards it as well even though she knew soon enough she would be told to stay put while they scared people out of the house.
Blythe was silent, her eyes narrowed just a little bit. Jay continued to walk.
The farmhouse and surrounding buildings came up soon enough, a dirt driveway branching off the road towards the house. Delia instinctively turned onto it, glancing at them and up at the house.
Jay headed towards the front door, one hand already resting on his gun.
There was a slight rustling of movement inside the house, sounding like multiple people. At least that's what Delia guessed as she neared the house with Leo walking almost right between her legs.
Jay knocked on the door, his hand still on the gun.
No one answered, but there was clearly people inside, the creak of the floorboards inside much too loud to be from an animal.
He knocked harder. "Open the door." He called in a low tone.
"We're armed, go away," A deep voice called, followed by the sound of a round being slid into the chamber of a gun, "No one else is going to rob us today." Delia listened carefully, sighing at the sound of a gun, and shrugging her own off her shoulder. It would be difficult to use but she pulled it to her shoulder anyway, balancing on one of her crutches and her good leg as she aimed towards the door just in case.
"Not intending to rob you. Now come on outta the house." Jay retorted, drawing out his gun. Blythe smirked slightly, drawing out her own gun.
"No." This time it was a kid's voice that answered, and a quiet scolding could be heard moments later before the deep male voice answered again, "Step away from the door first, and put down your guns."
Jay stepped back, but didn't put down the gun. He did aim it to the ground, but he didn't put it down.
Seeing as Delia and her gun were mostly useless at this point, she fully set her's on the ground, listening for any other instructions.
"Scary lady and guy, you too," The kid voice said again, a hint of almost pride in his voice, "I can see you guys and we won't come out until you set down your guns." This time the male voice didn't scold the child, just added gruffly, "Are there any more with you or is it just you guys?"
"Not putting it down." jay replied simply. "And why don't you come out and see." he had no intention of answering the question.
"…Fine, but if you shoot at us, I won't hesitate to kill your crutch buddy there," The male voice said again, clearly talking about Delia. There was a little scuffle behind the door but slowly it creaked open, revealing a boy most likely no older than six and a tall man who looked like his father. The man was strongly built, and with the shotgun in his hands, he didn't look like someone to mess with, "What do you want?"
"A place to stay for the night." Jay replied. His hat was still keeping his pale hair hidden away, but there was no hiding Blythe's red eyes.
The man scowled, glancing between the three and jabbing his finger at Jay and Delia, "You two only, she's one of them." His gaze shot to Blythe and he gripped his gun tighter, "That's my rule if you stay."
Jay frowned a little bit. "Blythe wouldn't hurt anyone." he replied, glancing over at the girl, then back to the man.
Blythe curled her lip a little bit. "I didn't choose to be one of them."
"And how do you know that she wouldn't hurt anyone?" The man replied, clearly defensive as he put a hand on the little boy's shoulder, "I've had run-ins with people like her and as soon as there is any weapon that they could get their hands on, they're ready to kill the rest of us."
Jay's fist clenched at his side. "That's them. Not all of– of them are the same."
"I won't believe it until I see it," The man said again, scowling at Jay and then Blythe, "You can stay for the night. Under on condition. I will hold onto your weapons until you leave. All of them."
Blythe narrowed her eyes. "No, you won't. I don't trust that I'll get them back. I'll give 'em to the crutch girl, or to Jay. Not to you." she gestured at Delia and Jay when she talked about them.
