(Could you?)
(yup)
Aster knocked on the carriage door as it rolled to a stop, then opened it. "Hey. This is the first place we are going to check." He said.
Quinn looked up, standing. "Alright."
Charlotte nodded and exited the carriage, looking around. If they found a portal here, she could go home and this whole thing would just be a stupid dream. She'd join her mother in the hospital unless she kept quiet about this place, but it would be worth it for a bit of normality.
The guards, Aster, and Quinn, all spread out to look.
"There are certain spots in Wonderland that are a magnet for portals. This is one of them." Quinn said.
Charlotte nodded and started walking around the area. She climbed into a tree to get a better look, and ended up falling out of it and cutting her arm on a branch. She brushed herself off with a sigh and started looking in the bushes.
Aster and Quinn and the other guards kept looking around.
(Gonna head to bed now, so good night!)
Charlotte sighed. If there was any water here, she would've immediately assumed it was a portal. Or maybe there was a rabbit hole. Or a looking glass. Apparently, anything could be a portal. Maybe she'd just have to throw herself at anything that seemed mildly portal-like.
Quinn frowned slightly, and pressed his hand against something that looked vaguely like a portal, then shook his head. "It's magic, but the wrong type." He said.
Charlotte groaned. "Wonderful," she muttered, walking faster.
Quinn sighed softly.
(Hmhmhm idk what to do)
(here lemme just-)
"Hey, i found one!" Aster shouted. "Dont go in yet, we have to test it!"
Quinn looked up, then walked over.
Charlotte rushed over. "Who the hell needs to test it? Just let me through," she demanded.
Aster held out a hand to stop her. "They don't all go to your world, Lottie!" He replied. "Some go…to other places far worse than Wonderland." He picked up a long stick, and stabbed it through the portal, wiggling it around while looking at Quinn. "You'll be able to read it, right?"
Quinn nodded. "Yes. Just keep the stick in there a bit longer."
Charlotte scowled, tapping her foot impatiently. "Other worlds than yours," she muttered agitatedly
Aster pulled the stick out. It was dripping some kind of black goop, and he made a face, holding it out to Quinn.
"You want me to touch that?" Quinn said incredulously. He rolled his eyes, and touched a finger to the goop.
"What the - " Charlotte gasped and stepped back.
Quinn pulled his finger off after a moment, making a face and wiping it on his pants. "Eww yuck. Nope. That's definitely not your world. Sorry, Charlotte." He said, glancing over her.
Aster threw the stick back through the portal.
Charlotte tilted her head back and blinked rapidly for a moment before taking a shaky breath. "It's - whatever," she muttered, turning and walking back towards the carriage.
Quinn frowned slightly. "Did…i do something wrong?" He said slowly, watching her go.
Aster sighed. "I don't know…let's keep moving."
Charlotte climbed into the carriage and shut the door loudly behind her before staring at the ceiling. Her face was blank except for her trembling jaw, which she quickly put her hand over her mouth to cover.
Quinn was quiet as he headed back to the carriage.
Aster mounted his horse again.
Charlotte pulled a book from her bag and flopped to a random page, pretending to read.
Quinn got in the carriage, sitting down quietly.
(I might head to bed soon, just a heads-up)
(Same lol it's fine)
Charlotte ignored him and stared at her page harder, trying in vain to comprehend the words.
