Charlotte jolted awake as the carriage rolled to a stop. "Are… where are we? She mumbled."
Quinn sighed. "It isn't evening yet, so probably the next possible portal location."
Charlotte quickly rubbed the sleep from her eyes and pushed the door open, looking around. "This doesn't look like the last place," she commented.
Quinn chuckled. "That's because it isn't the last place." He replied ss he got out of the carriage, stretching.
Aster smiled slightly. There were trees again, but they were huge monoliths that soared high into the sky, the tips buried in the clouds.
"I am well aware that this isn't the last place, you twit," she sighed, though her voice was considerably brighter than her usual.
"Then why did you comment, love?" He asked with a smirk.
Aster glanced at them, but said nothing.
"Ah, because I was under the impression that I was allowed to speak my mind," Charlotte responded. "And as hard as this will be to undersrand, I didn't actually ask for a response," Charlotte said with a matching smirk before running off to look around.
Quinn chuckled softly, and started looking around for a portal to take her home.
Aster started searching.
Charlotte kept walking quickly, and tripped over a tree root, landing hard on her wrist. She stood up with a loud curse. "Again? Wonderland's out to get me," She muttered, rubbing her wrist as She looked arkund. Unfortunately she couldn't see anything that remotely resembled a portal.
Quinn continued walking.
Aster glanced over at her eith a soft chuckle. "Wonderland is out to get everyone." He replied.
Charlotte sighed. "If I sprain my wrist one more time, I'll find Wonderland's wrist and sprain it right back," she swore somewhat annoyedly. Her wrist was throbbing, which didn't exactly improve her mood.
Aster walked over. "Do you want me to take a look?" He asked, looking at her.
Charlotte waved him off. "I'll wrap it up later," she said unconcernedly , still glancing around.
Aster nodded. "Alright." He replied, and started looking around.
"I think I've found one," Charlotte called after a few minutes. The pond she had found was glowing rather brightly, and swirling around. "Or at least I've found a highly unusual natural phenomenon."
Aster came over, squinting at the pond. "Hm. Quinn!" He called.
Quinn walked over. "Yeah, i know."
Charlotte stepped back to lean against a tree. "Well? Is this a portal?"
Quinn dipped a hand into the water. "Uhm…i dont think so." He replied. "Sorry."
Charlotte cursed under her breath and started walking in the opposite direction. "Of course it isn't. Because clearly, if something goes well for me, the world will end," she muttered.
Quinn sighed, standing. His hand dripped glowing water back down into the pool.
Aster chased after her. "Lottie, please calm down. Its only the second of many possible locations."
"I'm perfectly calm, Aster," Charlotte answered without looking at him. "It's not even frustrating that I know it'll be the very last place. I'm not upset even a little, and I really don't need you to tell me to calm down."
"You aren't acting perfectly calm." He replied, crossing his arms. "And I'm starting to get sick of your constant attitude. All your whining about "Wonderland this"! And "Wonderland that"!" He shook his head. "We get it. You hate it here and think we're all idiots. But you don't need to act like every second spent here is killing you. There are worse fates than Wonderland."
Charlotte spun around. "If you don't want to hear me, then get out of earshot," she growled lowly. "You don't know anything about me. Don't patronize me for not understanding anything in not just another country, but another dimension. Other dimensions haven't even been proven in my world. And in my world, I'm to be silent and proper and polite and if I ever want to do anything on my own, I have to leave the house, and I'm sick of being told to adjust my attitude. If you'd like to tell me the same, feel free to write a well thought out letter so that I might burn it. And don't you sigh at me. Don't even exhale. Every time you breathe, I can hear the contempt. Please. Just. Stop."
Aster crossed his arms, shaking his head. "I wasn't patronizing anyone. I am simply saying that a pleasant outlook can make the world of difference. You think that I wanted to work for the crown? Work for the same monarchy that held my grandfather in chains and drive my father to…" He shook his head slightly. "I hated the idea. But i went in with a neutral outlook, and, well…" His eyes flicked to Quinn. "The monarchy isn't what i was expecting. Neither is the palace. You have hardly given Wonderland a chance, and as far as i can see, you havent even tried to understand. So don't tell me not to patronize you for not understanding, if you haven't made an effort to try."
