Archer reached excitedly into the nearest suitcase of his and brought out a sketchbook that looked almost ready to fall apart. He flipped through it slowly, showing Eric the sketches and charcoal drawings and paintings inside it. Those sketchbooks were his whole world almost. It was strange to let this boy, who Archer didn’t know especially well, see them. But he was bursting with the desire to show someone.
Eric took his time with each of them, studying them for any hidden meaning. He didn't know much about art, but he could tell the care put into them.
"This is….really good," he said eventually, looking up at Archer. "You've really- you're really talented."
He leaned back, and Navy flapped her wings briefly at the book.
Archer blushed. “No, I’m not,” he brushed off the compliment. “But thanks anyway. These are some of the most important things to me. Sharing them with someone else is weird for me, to be honest. But there’s a lot to get used to here, isn’t there?” He chuckled softly.
(gtg for the night)
(me too sometime soon, gnight!)
Eric smiled. "Yeah, you're right. We're sure gonna have some stuff to deal with this year. It's not gonna be fun." He wet his lips. "Thanks for showing me."
Aster tried not to let the other girls dissent get her down. She had been warned that this school would be tough. She sat down on her bed and patted it, motioning for Kikiro to sit down. Cagney slithered around the room, checking out the space. "Well, I'm really good at summonings and portals. Anything that requires you to read stuff from an old book." She shrugged. "I tend to put my own spin on those types of things. Also." Her eyes lit up. "I've been dabbling in shapeshifting. I've already basically mastered changing my eye color." She rummaged through her bag and pulled out a mirror. "Watch." She stared at herself in the mirror, muttering to herself. Her one blue eye shifted, changing ever so slightly until it was brown. "Ta-da!"
Lander slashed a spell in the air and flicked his wrist. It glowed in the air and flew toward the window, opening them up. "There." He looked at his roommates and wrinkled his nose. "That should clear out the smell."
(lander's a dick isnt he)
Jasper tilted his chin up and stared at the two rats as they talked soundlessly. Maybe they were plotting to break his legs while he slept or something. He grinned inwardly.
He had plans of his own.
He copied a sigil from his grimoire on parchment paper, careful not to mess up the lines, then crumpled it up and bit his lip sharply, channeling the pain to charge the sigil. He put it in a sachet, then put cayenne pepper on top, along with a few other herbs and a drop of his own blood. He put the sachet on the ground, then closed his eyes and pushed it with his energy. It levitated about an inch above the ground and settled between the wood boards that held Eric's mattress.
He let his energy dissipate and wiped the sweat from his forehead. The sachet would curse Eric to have night terrors, negative energy, and terrible luck.
This was old magic. No measly jar spell would protect him against that.
Kikiro moved over from her bed to the other girl's after only a moments hesitation. She watched Aster with rapt attention, nodding along as the other girl explained her specialties. "Perhaps you can exchange ideas regarding summoning?" Calcifer asked, blinking open a single yellow eye at them. "Good idea. She did express interest in the dragons." But Kikiro's thoughts derailed instantly as she saw Aster's eye change. "Wow!" For once she didn't have to struggle with the emotion of surprise. "That will come in handy once you master it completely." Even Calcifer was impressed.
Shay snickered, casting a few of his own spells to change the look of his section of the room to his liking. The only thing he was sure to do was light a single large green candle on the self above his bed. He drew a quick sigil over it before flopping down onto the plush covered mattress.
(okay i have to go for the night too)
(okay so they're gna go to sleep now?)
(Uhhhh idk I guess. Maybe tomorrow we can just timeskip to the next day)
(Also I do have an actual plot with a conflict thats gonna happen so don't worry. People will be forced to choose sides, alliances will be formed, it'll be great)
Aster nodded eagerly. "I know right! I'm trying to practice hair color. Since my hair is so short its easier and my hair was darker when I was younger so at least it knows what being darker feels like." She shrugged then practically pounced on Kikiro. "What about you? What's your specialty?"

(alright cool! a timeskip sounds like a good idea. cant wait to see the plot. gnight!)
Kikiro was not used to Aster's level of energy, to say the least, but she found it charming. Something about the girl made her want to be just as carefree and light. She cleared her throat a bit awkwardly, not exactly sure how to equal Aster's enthusiasm. Instead she figured sh'e just be her usual self. "Offensive magics mostly," She began, bringing her tattooed wrist up between them. After a moment of concentration, the dragon tattoo lifted from her skin becoming more than just an inking and sailed around the room, growling at everything. She ran her free hand through her hair. "In Japan offensive magic is mixed with martial arts, so I do a lot of fighting and mediation. But I have a knack for sealing magic and glamours too."
She stood before Aster, staring at the girl for a long moment before the air around her seemed to shiver, within the next second a copy of Aster was standing in Kikiro's place. "Not as cool as your shapeshifting," the not-Aster said in Kikiro's quiet sullen voice. "But fun."
Aster had been watching Kikiro's dragon fly around the room in wonder. She turned and watched Kikiro stand. Her hands flew to the side of her face when Kikiro's glamour took hold. "Oh my gods!" The air around them started to sparkle and glow as if tiny lightning bugs hung around her. Who knew her new friend was so powerful? She stood so she faced Kikiro. "It's like looking in a mirror!" she exclaimed in wonder.
Blair coughed when the spells went into the air, it took him a moment to get his lungs under control. Certain spells affected his breathing, mostly air spells. It was a downside of the car accident he got into when he was just a baby.
“You good, Blair?” Sylvain asked.
He was still perched on the edge of his bed like some sort of bird, but he was actually starting to become pretty tense.
Risa glanced over at Kikiro and then the dragon flying around the room. She was quite impressed, but she stuck her nose back in her book, letting out a little “hmph” sound.
"Yeah, I'm fine. My lungs just don't like some spells, but it doesn't last long." He said, shaking his head yes while Goldie climbed to his shoulder and rested her tail against his neck.
Kikiro let the magic dissipate, returning to her own form as the dragon fluttered back down to her arm, sinking into her skin once more. "Show off." Calcifer muttered, still apparently peeved about his scolding. Kikiro ignored him. She sat back down next to Aster, her cheeks tinted pink. Praise from anyone other than her father and tutors was something she was also not used to. It made her chest feel funny. "Thank you." She murmured quietly.
(K imma time skip to tomorrow now everyone)
Aster was opening her mouth to say something when someone knocked on their dorm's door. She bounced up to open it. The stars and glitter around her were starting to fade slightly. A teacher stood in the doorway. "Ah. You must be one of our new students." She said the word new as if it was something foul that needed to be disposed of. She stepped into the room. "Time for bed ladies. Lights out is in five minutes. You have classes tomorrow." She nodded and walked toward the door, pausing when she saw Aster and Kikiro, as if she had forgotten they were there.
The rest of the night went by fairly quickly and without issue. Everyone changed into pajamas. The bathroom had four mirrors, each with it's own individual sink. Aster claimed one by putting her toothbrush on it. She was in bed with a minute to spare, afraid she wouldn't be ready in time. She cast a heating spell at the bottom of her large bed for Cagney. That night she barely slept, too excited about her new school.
"Wake up," Cagney hissed in her mind. Aster woke at once. Cagney had always served as her alarm clock. She got out of bed and started to get ready, not wanting to miss breakfast.
Lander woke up to Sasha licking his face. He pushed her off of him and blearily rubbed his eyes.
Calcifer yowled, causing Kikiro to bolt out of bed in fists at the ready despite her bleary eyes and bedhead. Coming to, she glared at the tiny two tailed cat. "Why can't you be nice?" She said to him. He ignored her and began bathing himself. Sighing and scratching her head she made her way into the bathroom to do her hair and makeup.
Shay awoke to the sounds of the others getting up. He stretched, shaking the dream out of his mind. Layla was already waiting by the window to be let out for her morning fly. With a grunt Shay flopped over, opening the window. His familiar disappeared with a gentle flap of wings. "Ugh." He said to the sunlight streaming into the room.
Jasper already knew about the lights out warning, of course. He got ready for bed, clad in a loose tank top and sweatpants, and threw himself on the covers with a sigh. In the last five minutes of light, he etched a quick sigil into the headboard, designing it so that anybody who touched him or anything on the bed would get an electric shock. He fell back on the pillow. Sleep came fairly quickly.
A different spell woke him up. He yawned and rolled over, watching with relish as the rat boy closest to him twitched, face contorted from the terrible nightmares.
Eric slept horribly. Visions of bloodied friends and family paraded before him, predominantly his father.
He shot up in his bed with a short scream. Despite having his eyes wide open, he couldn't see anything in front of him - merely the nightmares. Navy nudged him, and he looked at the clock. He was already late.
Lander groaned loudly and flopped back down, using his pillow to cover his face. "Someone turn off the fucking sun."
Aster hopped into her plaid pleated uniform skirt and pulled on her grey knee-high socks. She tied the laces of her worn hightop sneakers. She threw her tie around her neck and ran into the bathroom past Kikiro to tie it. She stood in front of her mirror and buttoned her shirt. "Hey, Kikiro." She tied her tie with expert hands and tightened it around her neck. "Can I call you Kiki?" she asked, folding down her peter pan collar.
