@Periwinkle_
Piper had been walking for a bit when she saw Tanner sitting by the entrance.
"Hey," she almost whispered.
Piper had been walking for a bit when she saw Tanner sitting by the entrance.
"Hey," she almost whispered.
"Hi…" He doesn't look at her. Instead, he continued to look forward. "What are you doing out?" He said quietly and curiously.
"I, uh, just needed a walk to clear my mind. What about you?" she clasped her hands behind her back and kicked at a pebble.
"Fresh air" He messed with his jacket sleeve. Forgetting he took the bracelet off. "…" He looked down at his arm then sighs.
"Yeah. Um. . . you mind if i sit?" She asked, and pointed to the part of the bench that he wasn't sitting on.
"Go ahead…" He pulled his sleeves down gripping the ends of them
Piper didn't say anything else for a while. Actually, she liked the silence. She needed a break from filtering her words.
Landyn sighed. "God I overreacted…"
The thoughts of earlier made him cry.
Piper sighed. She had only been able to escape drama for .01 seconds. She patted Tanner's shoulder, and just waited for him to speak or calm down, whichever came first.
He just sat there. "Anyways…How was practice?" He tried to smile.
Piper was taken aback by the quick recovery. "Um, it was okay I guess," she looked over at him.
He nods even though he wanted to cry still. "T-That's good…"
"Anyway, I guess we should talk about a few things," Piper said. She had decided to go ahead and take the plunge. "I have a question for you: why? Why didn't you respond to my letters?" her voice portrayed more and more pain as the words came out of her mouth. "I thought we were friends? Were we? Are we?"
"I didn't reply because I was trying to get the money to move so I was busy working. I was going to when I had a thought. It was that if I did I'd just get a note back saying I was a terrible friend or to never contact you…Stupid reason I know…" He looks down. "I thought we were."
As much as Piper wanted to be satisfied with his answer, she wasn't. She didn't want to whine, but it had been so long. Years. She had lived with her father for over five years. She hated everything about it. The one thing that kept her going was the thought of Tanner, who she now can barely even recognize. He'd changed so much, and it seemed like he didn't even want to know what it was like to have to live with her father. She had asked him about his mother! Why couldn't he do the same?
"But why would I write you multiple times a month if I didn't want you to contact me?"
"I only got one letter before I got my job. When I wrote a note it was gone. My mom took it." He sighs. "I never got to check the mail…My mom just threw things away…She could've thrown them away." He pulled out a letter. "I tried to send this to tell you how I felt…But I wasn't sure if you were still in the same place…" He hands her the note. "I-I'm sorry…"
(So do you want to make up what was in the note or me)
Piper brushed some curls from her face and took the note from Tanner. Her hands shook a bit as she did.
(You)
Tanner looked away trying not to cry again.
(tell me if this sounds ok)
Piper opened the note and began to read its contents.
Dear Piper,
Hey. It's been a while, hasn't it? I think it's been much too long, do you
But I'm also writing this to tell you something else. Something that I don't really know how to say. But I'll try. Here goes: I think about you all the time. You are my best friend, and I hate that you had to leave. I know it must be hard for you, what with you having to stay with your dad and all, but I want you to know that I think you're the best friend I could ever have. I miss you.
Your friend,
Tanner
Piper smiled. It was a smile that hadn't seen the sun in a long time.
Tanner crosses his legs and looks down. He felt like it was silly to him but that's because everything he writes seems somewhat silly. "Sorry…I was in a rush writing that."
“That’s peobably the least silly thing you’ve ever said to me,” Piper said, and looked at him again. She bumped his shoulder.
“I missed you too.”
"…I was going to mail it but my aunt said we were moving. I did write back…Just never sent it." He looks at her. "They made the fight cheaper so I got here faster."
Piper didn’t say anything for a while. She was thinking about all those times when she thought tanner had forgotten about her.
He kept his sleeves down trying to hide the fact the bracelet was gone.
