“I was… a little.” she admitted, pulling the blanket closer around her. “But now I… I think I'm just confused.”
“I was… a little.” she admitted, pulling the blanket closer around her. “But now I… I think I'm just confused.”
He sighs. “Well…please ask any questions you want…ill try my best to answer them all…”
“Alright.” she nodded, taking a seat across from him. “I guess the first thing I want to know is… Why?”
He sighs, “I just…wanted to go out on my own…i do it a lot…and then i met you and you didnt know who i was and you- you didnt treat me like everyone does…the sickly prince who needs to be treated like porcilen…” he sucks in a breath. “I wanted real friends…”
Meg nods, listening to his answer. “I can understand that.” she assures. “Sometimes, I go out on my own too. Though I go out past the town when I want to be alone.” she admits with a soft chuckle. “I was concerned when you told me how bad your allergies were… But I don't really have many friends either.”
He sighs. “Its…not just allergies…” he mutters.
Meg nods again. “I heard the rumors that Prince Aaron was sick. All his life?” she asked, just wanting to be clear. “Do you want to talk about it?”
He sighs, resting his hands in his lap. “Yes…I was born incredibly sick and my doctors thought I wasn’t going to make it…but…I did.” He shrugs. “That’s why they named me Aaron…since it means miracle…” he shifts slightly. “Since it’s a miracle I’m still alive…”
Meg gives a soft hum. “Are you still sick?” she couldn't help but ask. “I’m sorry. There’s just so much talk that it's hard to know what the truth is.” she explains.
He shakes his head. “You’re fine…yes, I am still sick. But not as bad though. It seems that with age I have more and more good days.” His voice was becoming all to soft and quiet.
Meg smiles softly and gently reaches a hand towards his. “I’m glad for that for you.”
He blinks and looks at her. “R-really?”
“That you have good days? Of course.” she nods. “To me, that means you are getting stronger as you grow. I understand that your parents are scared for you but they need to look at what you are capable of instead of worrying about what might hurt you.”
He sighs, “That…on top of the risk of assassination? Our family has been worrying about that for generations…” he fidgets with his gloves.
“Well… That is something everyone in power worries about.” she admits thoughtfully. “All I can do is say that you are not in danger from me or my mother.”
He smiles slightly. “Thank you…”
“Of course.” she smiles back warmly. “Now I do have at least two more questions for you.”
He nods. “Ask as many as you want.”
She nods gratefully. “Well, the first is what would be alright for me to call you?” she asks with a small smirk.
He laughs softly, “Aaron…” he smiles. He looked as though he was starting to relax again.
“Aaron.” she repeats, a bit relieved that she doesn't have to use his title when they are alone as friends. “And my second question is will we still be able to see each other?”
He nods. “Even if my parents never let me outside alone again, I can still spend time with you. And if you’re comfortable with it…we can still stay in the palace grounds. I’m allowed to be ‘alone’ there.” He laughs softly. “But they can’t stop me from sneaking out.”
Meg’s eyes widened at the idea of being allowed on the palace grounds. “I… If you're sure it would be alright, then I wouldn't mind coming to visit you.” she admitted with a light blush. “And I certainly don't mind you sneaking out to visit me.”
He chuckles. “Trust me…my parents would do anything for me. And me having someone to talk to would make them so happy. You’d be allowed.”
“Thank you.” she smiles. “I have to admit that I've often wondered what the palace is like. All I've ever seen is the outer walls.”
He chuckles, “It’s actually really homey…its cozy as well. Sure it’s big but the lighting and the interior design is wonderful. It’s honestly relaxing.”
“I’ll have to see it for myself.” she smiles. “Because, just from the outside, it looks so grand and almost intimidating.”
He chuckles, “Would you like to come over today?” He smiles warmly.
“I would like that.” she nods. “Are you sure it would be alright?”
He nods. “Of course.” He stands and offers his hand.
