“How much longer do we have to spend together before you run off again?” she asked, half teasing but also wondering why Aaron had done that the last two times they were together.
“How much longer do we have to spend together before you run off again?” she asked, half teasing but also wondering why Aaron had done that the last two times they were together.
He pauses, then laughs nervously. “Um…whenever i realize i need to head home-“
“And does that always coincide with the bells from the castle ringing? Or is it just the guards marching through?” she asks playfully.
He blinks, “uh…well- i uh-“ he was running out of excuses now…
Meg glances at him before putting her hand on his upper arm. “It's ok. I was just wondering.” she assured. “It seemed like quite a coincidence that it happened twice.” she added as an explanation. “I don't really blame you if it is only a coincidence. I went straight home after you did both times. I’ve never been fond of being present when the guards are out.”
He nods, staying silent. God he hated lying…he only felt his guilt grow.
“I’m sorry if I upset you.” she said sincerely in response to his silence.
He shakes his head. “No…you didn’t upset me at all…”
“But you seem upset.” she points out gently, a little concerned.
He shakes his head. “Trust me…im not.” He smiles warmly.
Meg raises a skeptical brow at his assurance but nods. “If you say so.”
He hums, looking around. “Quite beautiful outside isn’t it…?” He smiles. Yes, he was trying to change the subject…but it was better then going into the rabbit hole of questions.
“It is.” Meg smiles back, accepting the new conversation. “Though I heard some farmers hoping that it will rain later.”
Aaron chuckles. “Oh dear…there go my allergies then.” He jokes.
“Oh, no.” Meg laughed with him. “Are they severe?”
He pauses, “well-“ in all honesty…his health could be deadly if it wasn’t managed properly. But he wasn’t gonna tell her that. “Kind of…”
“Oh…” Meg trailed off, unsure how to respond to that information. “Well, that would explain why I haven't seen you around often.”
He chuckles, “Probably why I’m so slim as well…” he jokes. He worked out and he was ‘muscular’…but he was still thin.
“Probably.” she agrees with a light laugh. “But I'm glad that the weather has been good lately, otherwise we may never have met.”
He chuckles. “Most likely…” if his health was as bad as last years…he may not have been able to survive as long as he did. He smiles at her and looks away, trying to hide the look of past memories in his eyes.
Meg catches the brief look and places her hand on his arm. “Is something wrong?” she asks gently.
He immediately changes his looks and smiles at her. “No, nothing at all…may just be my allergies…” he chuckles.
Meg sighs at his stubbornness but nods. “Would you like to sit for a moment?” she offers, seeing a bench not far in front of them.
He smiles and nods, guiding her over to the bench and sitting down.
Meg smiles back as she sits beside him, wanting to talk to him but unable to think of anything to say.
