"Well, I could never do it because I would get grounded. So you're slapping for me as well."
"Well, I could never do it because I would get grounded. So you're slapping for me as well."
She raised an eyebrow, "You'd get grounded? Aren't you older than her? Don't tell me you still live with your parents.."
"Of course not! When she did it as kids, the first time I slapped her I got grounded. Our parents gave zero shits that I was older."
"Fair enough," She said with a shrug, motioning for him to walk faster, "C'mon buddy, we don't have all day." She walked a little faster as well, humming one of her favorite songs.
"I guess I'm just lucky that I used to do track and field in high school," Matteo laughed.
She grinned, "What events did you do? I used to have a boyfriend that was a long distance runner."
"I was a long distance runner too. One of the best. Did you go to Hailee's school? Cause if so, I think I remember him. He was a dick."
"Josh?" She asked, tilting her head, "I did go to Hailee's school and the guys name that I dated was Josh Baear."
"Yeah. Him. Hated him. He was so rude and stuck up. Was glad to see him go."
She rolled her eyes, "He was a super nice guy once you got to know him. The only reason we broke up is because he moved and neither of us wanted to deal with a long distance relationship."
"He was a dick. Thought he was so much better than the rest of the track team because his parents were rich. He only got in because they bribed the coach. He was terrible."
"You obviously didn't see the amount of time he put into training and getting better, he wanted to do good." Alex shrugged, "I mean, I didn't really care for his terribleness at sports, his personality and looks were far better."
"You obviously didn't know him like I did. When he first joined, me, the guys and the girls tried to be nice to him and make him feel included. But as soon as he was a jerk, we left him alone because he wasn't worth it."
She looked over at Matteo, "He tried to be nice, but it's just his personality, he didn't like to deal with people that he knew weren't worth his time."
"Well then that was everyone on the team. We left him alone because he wasn't worth our time."
She shrugged, "And that's why he was either a jerk to you guys, or didn't talk to you. Anyway, enough about my former boyfriend, let's focus on getting back and slapping Hailee, ok?"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. We tried to be nice to him. But he was a stuck up dick from Day 1. We left him alone because he practically forced us to."
"Please don't start this again, I don't like trying to defend former boyfriends when i'm talking with my new one. It always leads to fights and then breakups and then the cycle repeats." She sighed and looked over at him, "Please? Let's not bring him up again, ok?"
Matteo sighed reluctantly. "Fine. I'll leave his jerk ass alone."
"Thank you." Alex said with a smile, bumping his shoulder lightly, "He's in the past anyway, you're now my boyfriend."
Matteo smirked. "I never said that we were dating, just that you had to go on a date with me. Whoever said it was offical?"
"Me, dummy." She grinned and shrugged, "Unless you'd rather not, then we can just be friends."
Matteo smiled. "Who ever said I wanted to be just friends?"
She let out a small laugh, "You didn't," They came across an intersection and Alex made sure that they weren't going to be hit before tugging his across the street, "This is New York, cross streets as quick as you can." She said.
"I've lived in New York most of my adult life. We might sound British but we aren't anymore."
