“Yeah, our playlist sounds good,” Ava agrees with a nod. Listening to songs they’ve previously picked out is always a safe bet. A knock on the door causes her to once more disappear from the kitchen. “Cam, Davy is here. Can you help him with getting my father into the truck?” It’s the beginning to the end for their troubles with the stubborn man.
Cameron started it to pause it again at the knock. “I sure can, love.” He put his egg on low and grabbed up Malcom like he was a sack of potatoes, then carried him outside after greeting Davy. He set him in the back and along the seat as if he were just sleeping, throwing a blanket over him.
Ava talks quietly with Davy, giving him instructions about the sleeping pills and what to do if her father wakes up while Cameron loads her father into the car. Once everything is set up, she shakes the pilot’s hand and profusely thanks him for helping out. She steps back and watches as the man gets into the car and starts to drive away.
Cameron stepped back to stand with his wife, sighing softly. “Well, there he goes, to never set foot in Russia again.” He smiled and turned heel as Davy disappeared. “Let’s go back inside and have some breakfast, Yeah?”
Ava stares after the truck, having mixed emotions about this. “Yeah, that sounds good.” Breakfast will be a nice distraction. She turns and follows him inside, pushing all thoughts of her father out of her head. The madness is finally over.
Cameron started the music again and hummed with it as he turned the heat for their egg and pancakes back up. The only thing he had to worry about now was Zore and an excuse as to how she got hurt. Poor puppy.
Ava pulls a jar of dog treats out of a cabinet before returning to the living room. "Here you go, baby." Taking out one of the treats, she presents it to Zore. She still feels horrible for what happened to the dog. "My poor little baby. You didn't deserve that."
Zore was still on her back and whimpering softly as she tried to move. She took the treat slowly, her tail giving the smallest of wags. She licked at Ava’s fingers meekly, then continued her whimpers.
Ava kisses the top of Zore's head lightly. "The vet is going to get you some medicine and you're going to feel all better." Running her fingers through the dog's fur, she sighs. "It's going to be okay, baby, I promise."
Zore’s tail wagged a little and she gave the smallest of yaps. Rose came down at the smell of treats a few minutes ago, and decided to yap up at Ava to catch her attention. She was sitting neatly and gazing up at her.
Ava chuckles in amusement when she sees Rose. "You get one too." Pulling another treat out of the bag, she hands it over to the pup. "Kreja, come get a treat!" She calls out to the dog. Kreja slowly pads into the room, favoring his left hind leg.
(Sorry! I’ve been juggling all sorts of stuff hold on)
Ava chuckles in amusement when she sees Rose. "You get one too." Pulling another treat out of the bag, she hands it over to the pup. "Kreja, come get a treat!" She calls out to the dog. Kreja slowly pads into the room, favoring his left hind leg.
Rose yapped happily at the treat then bounded over to Kreja, hiding under his chest. But it was a little weird. She came out of the habit of hiding under him a few moons ago. This seemed to be some sort of support mechanism she was putting on for the older dog.
Kreja bends his head down and nuzzles the younger dog's cheek. The walk over to where he needs to go is awkward but he makes it there without falling. Unwilling to even try to get up on the couch, he just sits down and wags his tail. "Is your leg hurting, baby?" Ava asks quietly, handing him a treat. Seeing him in pain like this just kills her.
Rose seems to like helping him over and sitting between his paws as they both looked up at her. Zore seemed to try and stir from her spot but immediately whimpered loudly at the pain, making Cameron peek from the kitchen with concern.
“Why isn’t Kreja on the couch? Does he need help?”
Ava sets her hand lightly down on Zore's side to stop her from getting up. She slides off of the couch and sits on the floor so she can get a better look at Kreja's leg. Just touching it causes the dog to whimper pathetically. Frowning, she checks him for any other signs of injury.
"I think he hurt his leg or his hip."
Cameron frowned and went to go put the pan back on the stove before going to stand next to her, crouching down beside her. He frowned more at the whimpers.
“Should we take him to the vet, too?” He knew this too well. Lily went through the same type of pain except in her joints. He didn’t want Kreja to pass away like that, too.
Ava keeps one hand on Zore and the other on Kreja. The thought of something happening to any of the dogs makes her stomach churn. She couldn't bare to loose any of them.
"Yeah. Maybe the vet can give him something for the pain." She doesn't dare say what she's thinking aloud. Kreja is getting older and she knows that but she doesn't know what she'd do if her baby passed away.
Cameron wasn’t about to say anything about it either. He knew she’d be just as crushed— perhaps more— than he was when Lily passed away about a year ago. Cameron looked down at Kreja’s leg and felt around it carefully, finding the trouble spot at his leg.
“Maybe they can do something for Kreja. Perhaps it’s just a muscle or something, which is affecting his whole leg.”
Ava bites down on her lower lip as she covers Kreja's face with kisses. She's beyond worried about him. How could she not be? The dog means the world to her. Taking a deep breath to calm herself down, she nods her head. "We'll just have to get him a heating pad or something."
Kreja yelps and pins his ears back while his leg is being touched.
Cameron tried his best to ignore the yelps and gently taps his snoot when he bent down to snap at him.
“He’s certainly still got fire left in him,” Cameron mumbled as he sat back. “We can take him, too. I think it’ll be good to at least make sure nothing’s wrong with him, don’t you think?”
