He thought for a moment, then said, "It's cause I love hugs."

"That actually makes sense. Renee is the same." She said thoughtfully.

"Well, I'm happy you feel that way." He smiled. "Sure as hell ain't for the money."

"Well I would hope not."

"You would be sorrily disappointed."

"It would definitely not be great for you, if all of this was just for my money." She said casually,

"Well, duh, I'm on the struggle bus either way."

She hummed, reaching for his free hand to hold.

He smiled, lacing his fingers between hers. "So, you don't have to work today?"

"No, I am off today as well. I do have to work tomorrow though. Why?"

"Just wondering." He glanced over at the stairs, suddenly thinking of the girls. "Emma said she thinks you might eat me."

"Hmph. That is not my preferred method of murder, no. Sorry to disappoint."

"Oh, I understand now. Your plan all along was to kill me and take Emma and Jaiden for yourself."

"Spot on." She said, struggling to keep from laughing.

"I'll keep 911 on speeddial on my new phone, then."

She broke, giggles escaping her. "Watch your back, no?"

"I'll sleep with one eye open at all times."

"Good. Constant vigilance."

He snorted, rolling his free shoulder a couple times.

"Is this uncomfortable? I can sit up if you need.."

He shook his head. "I'm perfect right here."

She looked up at him, smiling softly. "Good to know."

"It's just weird looking down instead of up."

"Would you like to switch then? Your head on my shoulder?" She asked, raising an eyebrow in amusement.

He shrugged. "Whatever you want, I guess."
