Aurelie sped up, but she couldn’t help but glance behind her at the man with nervousness. The other girl sounded genuinely worried, and as much as Aurelie wanted to believe her, bits of doubt stuck in her mind.

Cat lead the other girl through the crowd without even looking back. She shouldn’t have left with Aurelie. She knew some thing like this would happen.

“Why did that guy call you Caterina?” Aurelie demanded, but it came out as more of a whisper than anything. She felt so vulnerable and confused.

“I’ll explain in a minute let’s-let’s just find somewhere quiet,” Cat said leading them away from the crowd but not towards the castle. Too many guards there.

“Okay…” Aurelie’s lip quivered, but she tried to focus on how Cat would tell the truth. She’d set things straight.

Cat tried to think of a lie as they walked but she couldn’t. She needs to come clean. Once the crowds were behind them she slipped into an ally way still silent.

“So? What was that about?” Aurelie asked, a flash of hurt in her eyes. She wasn’t sure how to feel.

”I ok it wasn’t supposed to go this way. I was supposed to be in and out. I wasn’t even supposed to go near you,” she rambled.

“What do you mean ‘get near me’? In and out of where?” Aurelie asked rapid-fire, realization beginning to dawn on her features. “Your name isn’t actually Grace, is it?”

Cat shook her head. ” It's not. My real name Caterina Ricci. I-i was planning to Rob the castle, ” she said her voice small. Usually, when she's caught shed just lie or act proud of her plan but she couldn't do either with Aurelie.

“Was this some part of your stupid plan, then? Get close to the princess and then run off in the night, laughing to yourself?” she demanded, unshed tears stinging in her eyes. She swallowed the lump in her throat before continuing. “Was everything between us a joke to you? Or better yet, a ploy to get me to give away everything?”

Cat shook her head quickly. ”No! I mean sort of at first. The original plan was to just go in as a maid and check the place out. Plan a night best for a break-in and then I met you and I got greedy. After I got to know you I really wanted to cancel the whole thing! That's why I was fighting with my brother, ” Cat admits talking really fast. Her emotions were getting the best of her and her Italian accent slipped through at some points.

“Likely story,” Aurelie quipped, the light leaving her eyes. She glared at Cat, her lips curled into a scowl. “You’ve been lying to me this whole time, so why should I believe you now?”

”you really have no reason too but I am telling the truth. I wouldn't have taken you here if I was still following the plan. It would be too much of a risk, ” she said sighing.

“So you want me to believe that you care now because I’m an inconvenience? Thanks for that little reminder,” Aurelie growled, adjusting her hood and turning to walk away. “Next time, act like you mean it,” she called over her shoulder, the tears brimming her eyes threatening to spill over.

”Aurelie please I'm sorry. Can we please talk about it, ” she calls out Following her.

“What is there to talk about? You lied to me and your explanations are nothing but selfish,” Aurelie argued, not turning around as she began to cry. “Leave me alone. Caterina.”

Cats eyes were watery but she didn’t let any tears slip. “Aurelie please I didn’t have choice,” she tried begging again her voice cracking slightly.
“Well Aurelie isn’t it I thought I recognized you, princess,” The man from earlier said as he appeared in the opening of the alley.

At Cat’s voice cracking, Aurelie felt a bit guilty for walking away, but when she heard the man from earlier speak, she felt a jolt of icy fear throughout her spine. She sniffed, wiping away the tears that had spilled down her cheeks, and tried to muster as much dignity as possible. “I’m not a princess,” she spat, not as convincingly as it would have been had she not been wearing out her emotions. “Just who are you?”

The man chuckled reaching his hand out to shake. “I’m dan and You aren’t the first one Cat here’s hurt. Me and my friends are just trying to stop her and her gang,” Hesays voice a lot softer than when he was talking to cat.
“Aurelie dont trust him,” she said stepping closer.

Aurelie’s gaze darted between the two of them and she wet her lips nervously. She shook his hand out of politeness, her jaw set. She didn’t trust either of them. Cat may have lied to her and possibly manipulated her, but something about the man seemed off.

Cat stood beside Aurelie glaring at Dan. “You should go home,” She tells Aurelie even though she wasn’t looking at her.

Aurelie glared at Cat. “You don’t tell me what to do,” Aurelie snapped. “But there’s no way I’m sticking around here with you and your creepy friend.” She turned to leave again.

neither Cat nor Dan stopped her. But Dan did smirk as she walked away. Cat walked in the other direction before he could say anything and she could do anything stupid.

Aurelie stormed off, not heading home, but in the opposite direction. She wasn’t entirely sure where she was going, just that she couldn’t be around Cat any more. She held back a fresh wave of tears as she walked quickly through the streets, realizing she didn’t know them as well as she thought she did. She was lost.
