Jade nodded. ”I envy the lack of boredom. But I’m afraid, with what I would do, I’d be constantly on the run. I can't imagine being happy living that kind of life.”
Jade nodded. ”I envy the lack of boredom. But I’m afraid, with what I would do, I’d be constantly on the run. I can't imagine being happy living that kind of life.”
Killian shrugged. "Only reason I'm not is because I have warding magic in place to keep most people out." He replied. "You penetrated them." He shrugged slightly.
She shrugged. ”Once I found out who you were, I was able to use my skills to find your home on the computers.” Jade giggled. ”It seems the feud between technology and magic rages on. The two may never get along.”
Killian sighed. "Hm. I might need to work on a spell to block computers, then…" He trailed off, getting lost in thought as he considered the best way to do so.
”Good luck with that.” Jade chuckled. ”If you knew the things I hacked into out of sheer boredom… you’d probably say I already was a villain.”
Killian made a face. "Yes, thank you, Brainwave." He replied, rolling his eyes.
Jade sighed and laid against the back of the couch. ”Maybe I should leave now. I’ve taken up so much of your time and hospitality.” she sat back up, looking at him. ”Thank you again for caring for me during my crisis.”
Killian shrugged. "It's up to you. You're welcome. Although I am wondering…what exactly happened?" He asked, looking at her.
Jade froze, a look of fear crossing her face for a moment before she turned away from him. ”I already told you. I was drugged, overpowered and attacked. That’s a-all.” her voice was controlled, only cracking at the last word.
Killian frowned slightly. "I…feel like that isn't the full story." He replied slowly. "But okay. If you say so." He looked away, raking a hand through his hair with a sigh.
Jade blinked back a few tears. ”I… I don't… don't wanna think about it. Much less talk about it.” she admitted softly. ”I honestly don't even remember who attacked me. All I know about them is… Thank God they didn't have super strength.”
Killian gently put a hand on her shoulder, hesitant. "Oh. I'm sorry." He said softly. "You can stay here as long as you want or need to. I don't plan on attacking someone in my own home. That's just bad manners."
Jade flinched harshly at the touch before listening to his words. ”I… Thank you, Hex.” She sighed. ”I guess I am still a bit shaken up by what happened.”
Killian nodded. "I know. I can see that. And it's perfectly normal. Hell, it only happened just last night."
Jade chuckled weakly, almost sounding closer to a sob. ”It is? Cause I have never been this rattled before. I won't claim to have won every fight I’ve been in but none of those losses had this kind of effect on me.” she started to ramble. ”I’m a superhero. I'm supposed to bounce back from an attack quickly. I have gone about life outside of my costume normally with broken bones, burn marks, knife wounds and having been shot at within hours of a fight. Not to mention that lighting spell you hit me with once… I never reacted like this to any of that.”
Killian rubbed her shoulder gently. "I know. Just…believe me? It's normal to feel traumatized after something like this." His voice was soft. Far more gentle than you would have expected from a villain.
”We don't even know what ”something like this” was.” she choked out, trembling. Jade buried her head in her hands as she started to cry. At that moment she looked more like just a scared, vulnerable girl than the calm calculating heroine she was known as.
Killian slowly hugged her. "I know. Brainwave…my dad was…a pretty terrible person." He said slowly. "Some of the scars on my body are from him." His eyes turned a dark blue. "And it still bothers me to this day. It's normal for you to be upset and bothered by what happened."
Jade shuddered briefly at the embrace before wrapping her arms over his shoulders and crying against him. She did hear what he said but couldn't find the right words to say. A simple ’I'm sorry’ sounded condescending to her, and saying ’I understand’… How could she really? The only thing she could say to relate was that her father had worked a lot so she didn't see him much growing up. Eventually, she was able to calm down but she still held on to Hex.
Killian held her gently, rubbing her back. "It'll be okay." He told her softly. "It happened less than 24 hours ago, of course it still bothers you." He closed his eyes for a moment, chewing on his lip. "It'll get better eventually, I promise."
”Thank you, Hex.” She nodded, trying desperately to believe him but in the back of her mind… She was considering quitting. How could she expect to protect anyone when she couldn't even protect herself? She wasn't iron. She was a broken hero.
Killian nodded. "Alright. You're welcome." He replied softly. "You'll be okay. The best heroes are the ones that face difficulties." He told her, rubbing her back still.
Jade shook her head. ”You’re just saying that because you don't want to get your butt kicked by another hero.” She chuckled lightly. ”I have a hard time imagining one of those photogenic fly-boys going through something like this. And there aren't that many well known super girls out there.”
Killian chuckled. "Or maybe I know that they couldn't kick my butt, and I need someone to keep me in check" he replied. "And that's what I'm saying. You're one of the best heroes out there. Smartest by far."
Jade rolled her eyes, pulling back from the hug. ”You really think that a globally recognized hero like White Eagle couldn't handle you? Thanks for the compliment but I’m not Brass Light or anything. I’m just a local hero who never left the city.” she said with a small smile.
