(sure! ^^)
The nurse turned to her computer and briskly started the process of signing them in. "I'll just need your cousin's name, date of birth, address, phone number, and ID right quick, and then we can start getting him patched up. Can he tell me himself, or are you his spokesperson at the moment?"
"I'm his spokesperson, he's…out of it," She said, shrugging, "His name is Oscar Kingsley, I'm not sure what day s birthday is, but he's 25, his address is 1839 Leroy Street, phone number is 384-3454-6869, and about his ID, he doesn't have it with." Most of the information she gave the nurse was her own information, and she just made his age up according to her guesses. Hopefully she would take it and get to work.
The nurse typed the information in, nodding. "Any idea if he has insurance, and if so, which insurance company?"
(Sry its short I have to go to bed, gn!)
Honor glanced over at Oscar to see how well he was doing before turning back to the nurse, "He doesn't have insurance, I'll be paying the bills from this though."
(ah okay, sleep well!! I should probs go to bed too lol)
Oscar was standing very close to Honor at this point, blinking rapidly and turning his head this way and that as if checking for danger. He was holding onto her arm tightly, all the bravado gone from his face.
The nurse finished writing up his file and stood, moving around the desk and waving for the two of them to follow her down a nearby hall. "Okay, right this way," she said brightly. "I'll take you to see Dr. Gustav and we'll see what we can do to get your cousin back in perfect shape."
"Oscar, just follow me," She said gently, ignoring how tightly he was holding onto her arm and starting after the nurse, "Just breathe and think of this as just a little different than my house." Honor watched him carefully the whole time, trying to figure out how to calm herself down since the stress or worry he was feeling seemed to be transferring to herself.
Halfway down the hall they passed an office room, and the nurse briefly poked her head in to address the person inside. "Doctor, there's a patient with a head injury waiting for you in Room One." She recieved an affirimitive response and led them to the next door down, showing them into a neat examination room. "Go ahead and sit your cousin down, the doctor will be with you in just a moment. There's gauze over there if you wanna put some pressure on that wound while you wait."
(Ok just a heads up I'm going to be gone for like 2-5 days from this friday night bc I'm going hunting, just wanted to give you a heads up)
Honor nodded and glanced at Oscar to see if he had calmed down any as she motioned for him to sit down. "See Oscar? It's not that bad, right? Just stay calm and we'll be back to my house quickly," She said, walking over to where the nurse said there was gauze to try to keep the bleeding to a minimum while they waited for the doctor.
(Oohh that sounds like fun! I hope you have a good time!)
Oscar sat down as if the chair might bite him, gripping the edge of the seat tightly. His head and hands were bleeding again, dripping onto the floor. "There are a lot of humans here," he whispered. "Their bodies are all broken somehow…..or rotten. If their bodies die, so do they. Is that what happens to me if my body dies?"
(I just did some research on how doctors treat a head wound so now I'm feeling more prepared for the next scene XD)
"..The same thing would happen to you, Oscar," She said gently, grabbing the gauze and walking back to him before pressing a few pieces into his hands and pressing the other pieces onto his head to soak up some blood, "But it won't. You'll live and hopefully won't have to come back here anymore." The truth was, she knew that there was no guarantee that his wound wouldn't become infected.
"Have you ever had to come here?" Oscar asked, curling his hands into the cloth and pressing his bleeding fingertips against it. "I mean, have you ever gotten hurt as bad as me and had to get fixed up like this?"
Honor nodded, "I've had to come here tons of times, though I've never been hurt as bad as you have. the worst injury I've had was when I broke my leg as a kid, it wasn't a clean break and it actually cut through my skin." She glanced at her leg and chuckled, though didn't move the gauze at all as the blood continued to soak into it, "I still have the scar from that too."
"And it was….okay?" Oscar ventured. "It wasn't….bad to be here? The people here, they didn't scare you?" He looked like he almost didn't want to hear her answer, in case it was an answer he didn't like.
(I'm back for a few days! :D)
"No, it was good to be here. The doctors were scary at first but they're just here to help and they would never intentionally hurt you. They make it easier to be here and less scary overall," She said, glancing towards the door to see if the doctor was there yet, "I'll be next to you the whole time too so it's even less scary, if you want me to be."
(yay!)
Oscar nodded quickly. "Yes. Stay here."
Just then the doctor arrived. He was a graying man in a white coat with relaxed blue eyes who was busy leafing through papers on a clipboard when he entered. "Hello," he said without looking up. "The name's Doctor Gustav. How are you two doing this evening?" Then he finally lifted his gaze to assess the situation and stopped in his tracks, staring at Oscar's bloody face. "What the–" Moving with surprising speed for a middle-aged person, he darted over, grabbing more gauze on the way. "Excuse me, ma'am. There are steel bowls above the sink, fill one with hot water now. And wash your hands, if you're going to stay here."
Honor glanced at Oscar and squeezed his shoulder as she made her way to the sink, following the doctors orders and washing her hands before filling a bowl full of hot water and carefully bringing it back to him. "Is that enough water?" She asked, holding onto it and watching Oscar to see how he was doing so far.
The doctor spared her a quick glance and nodded curtly, then fished a pager out of his pocket and clicked it on. "Amaya! This patient has an open wound in the front center of his skull, and he's not in the ER!? Open your eyes! I need a crash cart and surgery prep right now." Turning back to Honor, he began soaking fresh gauze in the hot water and cleaning Oscar's head. "One of you tell me exactly how and when this happened."
"Uh, maybe an hour ago?" Honor guessed, lying on the spot to try to make up a semi believable story, "We were out working on a farm building a chicken coop, long story short, he tripped and hit his head really bad on one of our tools. I didn't know it was this bad until I took him back to my house and cleaned the wound up a little bit as well." She hoped no one would ask anymore questions about what had happened as she watched the doctor clean the wound on Oscar's face.
"Tools, tools…." The doctor continued muttering to himself, moving the back of the exam table up so it formed a chair and firmly pushing Oscar back to rest on it. "Is he up to date on his vaccinations? And has he been acting normally since the accident, or have you noticed anything different about his behavior? I mean, is he usually this quiet?"
"I'm not sure how up to date his vaccines are, and yeah, this is what he's like normally. He's very shy around new people so him being quiet is normal," She said, looking around the room and holding on tighter to the bowl of water.
"Sound like he might need a tetanus shot, then, to be on the safe side. Don't want him getting a rust infection on top of this."
The nurse from the front desk arrived just then, hurriedly pushing a wheeled cart ahead of her. The doctor gave her a look that said he was still angry with her, but didn't waste time on it just yet. "Check him for signs of a concussion," he instructed. "I'm gonna have to suture the wound, so when you're done go ahead and administer local anesthetic."
Oscar sat stock still while the medical staff bustled around him, clearly getting more tense by the minute. He glanced at Honor with wide eyes, looking like he wanted to bolt from the room.
Honor glanced over at him and tried to give him a look that said everything would be ok as she looked for a place to set the bowl of water down. "He's not a huge fan of needles," She warned the nurse, not sure if it was true or not but running on a hunch that he wouldn't like people jabbing him with things, "If you planned on giving him a shot."
"It's fine," Amaya said brightly. "I'll do it. It's just gonna be a little prick, and then he won't feel a thing. She filled a needle with the anesthetic, then went back to Oscar. "If you want to stand next to him while we do this, it might help him feel better."
She nodded, setting down the bowl on the cart for a moment as she walked over to Oscar and gently put a hand on his shoulder. "Hey, you're doing great, at this rate we'll be out of here in no time," Honor said, smiling gently and waiting for the nurse to do her thing, "You probably want to eat after this, don't you? Anything in particular you want me to get?"
