“If you’re ready, Joey,” Sol said, gently wrapping an arm around Joey’s small waist to support him. “Thank you for covering his shift, Jackie.”
“If you’re ready, Joey,” Sol said, gently wrapping an arm around Joey’s small waist to support him. “Thank you for covering his shift, Jackie.”
"Of course. It won't be hard anyway. It's a Sunday shift." Jackie smiled softly and switched places with the two of them. "Bye, Jackie. Thank you again!" Joey waved goodbye and stumbled a bit, holding tighter to Sol for support.
Sol helped Joey out to his bike, which he looked at with concern. “Do you think you can hold on well enough?” he asked.
"Ah… probably?" Joey hesitated before carefully climbing up onto the bike, seeming a little bit uneasy. "I'm sure it'll be fine…"
“As long as you’re sure…”
Sol handed Joey the helmet, then got on the bike in front of him and revved the engine. Carefully taking off down the street, he went slow, making sure Joey was holding on.
Joey wrapped his arms around Sol's waist, holding onto him as tightly as he could and burying his face in the other man's shoulder until they arrived at the apartment. "Mmmm… did we make it…?"
“Yeah, we’re here, estello,” Sol answered softly, getting off the bike and holding his hands out to help Joey. “Let’s get you upstairs.”
Joey allowed Sol to help him, although he seemed pretty insistent on walking rather than being carried. He was breathing pretty heavily by the time he got to the top of the stairs, and he looked rather dazed.
Sol led Joey over to the couch before heading to the kitchen to get a water bottle. Bringing the water back with him, he sat down next to Joey. “Is there anything I can do for you?” he asked, trying not to sound too worried.
"Mm… dunno. When's your friend making the potion thing?" He asked, fumbling with the lid of the water bottle for a minute before he managed to actually open it and take a drink. "How does that work, anyway?"
“Nikora had to go back to her place to make it, but she shouldn’t be much longer,” Sol replied. “The magic in the elixir basically imitated the needed nutrients for as long as it’s in the body. It only lasts about a day, and repeated use renders it ineffective. I’ve had to use it when I’ve been on a mission and not had food.”
"Mm… so it can't be a food replacement long term." Joey said softly, more to himself as an audible thought than to Sol. In fact, he didn't really seem to realize or notice he'd said it aloud. "Alright, well… hopefully she'll be here soon, anyway."
Frowning slightly at Joey’s spoken thought, but not wanting to make him uncomfortable, Sol simply nodded. “She lives nearby, it’ll be any minu-“
There was a knock on the door.
“There she is,” Sol rose to open the door.
Joey nodded a bit, jumping when he heard the knock. He glanced over at the door, drinking some more water. It filled his stomach some, but it was still growling angrily for actual food.
“Here you go, Solaris,” Nikora handed Sol the elixir. She was one of the few that called him by his given name, not seeing it respectful to call her boss by a nickname, but also disliking titles.
“Thanks, Nikora,” Sol said gratefully. “I’ll pay you back Wednesday.” With a nod, the female left, and Sol returned to Joey’s side.
Joey looked up at Sol, eyeing the elixir warily. He still wasn't entirely sure how it would feel to take it, and it worried him. "So… um… how exactly do I need to do this?" He asked softly.
The bottle of elixir was about the size of Sol’s palm and was a light bluish color.
“All you have to do is drink it; it should be flavorless,” Sol explained. “Like with my magic earlier, you might feel a tingle, and the effects will kick in within fifteen minutes.”
"Okay…" Joey hesitated before accepting the bottle from Sol and starting to drink it. It didn't take him long to finish it considering the small size, and he handed the bottle back to Sol before returning to curling up on the couch.
Sol put the bottle on the side table, then rose for a moment to extend his wings before settling back in the couch. “Can I get anything for you?”
Joey shrugged a bit and huddled up against Sol, letting his glamour vanish so that he could stretch out his wings and get more comfortable. "Mm… I'm a mess, Sol…"
Sol wrapped his wing around Joey. “It’ll be okay, Joey,” he said softly. “You’re strong.”
"No I'm not!" Joey gritted his teeth and tightly gripped Sol's shirt, quivering with anger at himself. "I'm not strong, a-and I never have been! Just look at me!" He hiccuped and buried his face in Sol's chest. "Look what I'm doing to myself!"
Sol held Joey against him. “You are strong, Joey, because you’re still fighting,” he said, voice soft, but tone firm. “If you weren’t strong, you wouldn’t be here. You can get better, it might take time, but you can. I believe in you.”
Joey sobbed weakly into Sol's chest, still tightly gripping his shirt with trembling hands. "I can't do this, Sol… please… I c-can't… I'm sick and twisted and disgusting. I don't want to get better…"
Heart clenching, Sol gently rocked the sobbing angel, wishing he could take the pain away.
“No, estello, no,” he said. “You are in no way, shape, or form any of those things. You deserve happiness and peace, no matter what you may think. I know it’s hard, stars do I know, I’m so sorry, sweetheart.”
