Ellie scanned the labels on the boxes. Luckily there were signs pointing to the different sections and she followed the ones to the boxes labeled, 'theories on alternative universes' and 'evidence on alternative universes'. She pulled out one of them, starting to flick through the pages.
Florin glanced back at Ellie momentarily before looking back to the boxes currently close to him. He found a file having to do with theoretical weaponry of some sorts, pulling it out and beginning to read. At least, trying to.
Speaking English, Florin could manage. Reading it was a bit harder. He leaned over the page he was currently on and slowly began to pick out the words he knew and try to decipher the thing. Reading English wasn’t a huge struggle per say, but anyone focusing on him would probably notice it right away.
Maybe something here could help. If not, then maybe he could bring back the learnt information back to his universe when he returned. Maybe it could give them an upper hand, some sort of strange alter-universe technology. Maybe not.
If he did return, rather.
Ellie ended up pulling out another box, placing them down on the ground and sitting on the cold stone floor. She looked towards Florin and frowned slightly, "You're in the wrong section." She said simply, returning back to her page.
Florin froze up. “Oh. Yeah, right.” He put the file away carefully, and put the box where it belonged, moving away from them.
He took another box, setting it down on the floor and this time sitting down, taking out a file. What he could get from it was that it was a bit about multiverse theories and time travel. He decided to take a gander at that, though he skipped over much of the words he couldn’t quite understand, which undoubtedly made understanding the material a lot harder.
Ellie watched him for a moment before turning back to her own files on supposed evidence on alternative universes. She could tell he was having a bit of trouble but didn't mention it, hoping he would speak up about it. If he didn't, she would ask.
Florin scanned through them, flipping pages once finished. No mentions of anything Sedorian. Which made sense, given ‘alternate universe’ and all.
He stayed silent as he read.
Ellie found nothing on Florin's universe, though found some stuff on others that sounded similar to his. But not the one directly. Sighing she turned to the other boxes, hoping they would lead to something.
Florin put the current file away he was done with and took out another. He skimmed through it, but this one was even more clunkier than the other. Harder for him to read, and harder to tell if he was truly getting information or not.
The area of his scar was hurting again. Florin wondered why. Maybe being forced to a different universe had something to do with that? He wasn’t sure. He shifted in place, trying to get to a more comfortable position.
Ellie looked over, raised a brow with a small frown, "You good?" She asked, noticing his slight discomfort.
Florin looked up. Breathing out, he answered. “I’m fine, I’m fine. Just..” He paused, searching for the correct words. “..ribs are just sore. It happens often though, so I’m fine.”
"Are you sure? Because I can go find some water and pain killers if you want them." She offered with a shrug of her shoulders.
“I’m fine,” he insisted. “It’ll go away within a minute or so.”
She narrowed her eyes at him, "Fine." She dropped it. They had more important issues.
Florin looked back to his page. Should he mention the issue? He didn’t really want to, but it was giving him some trouble. Finally, he decided to speak up about it. Without looking up, he began to talk.
“I can’t..uh..I can’t read a lot of this stuff.”
Ellie looked back up at Florin with an eyebrow raised. That wasn’t what she had expected to hear, “You can’t? Is it just because there are a few words you don’t understand or because you just can’t read English?”
“Well, I can read English.. sort of. I’m just not as potent with it as you might be.” Florin looked over the page he was holding, still not looking up.
"Well," Ellie shifted so she was sitting next to Florin, "What parts can't you read and what's ones can you?"
Florin blinked, thinking. “Longer words, basically. There isn’t much of a theme with that, though, considering some long words I do know how to read, but most I don’t. I just..never really learned to read English, since it wasn’t seen as that important.”
"Okay so," Elide placed her finger on the page, quickly scanning and skim reading the paragraphs, "Which paragraph is the hardest to read? I'll read it out loud to you."
“I..I don’t know, really. They’re all pretty equally tricky.” Florin admitted, glancing off to the side.
“Hey don’t be embarrassed. I’m sure if you handed me a book in German or whatever manager you’re the best in I wouldn’t be able to read it.”
"True, but you probably don't speak that much German, while I happen to speak a lot of English. And yet, it's hard for me to even write or read it." He paused. "Did you find anything from what you've read so far?"
Ellie sighed, leaning back on her hands, "Not really. There's stuff on universes that sound similar to yours but there's no exact match."
Florin glanced back towards her. “Is there anything that you may want to ask me that could possibly help us find more information?” He suggested.
"I dunno," Ellie pulled a box towards her, trying to find the files that sounded like Florin's universe, "Well… I know you mentioned the different countries that were at war but are their any others? Like states, continents that sort of thing?"
