“Ah,” Florin gave a slight stutter. “Alright.” He trailed after her.
“Ah,” Florin gave a slight stutter. “Alright.” He trailed after her.
At first glance around the building, it looked like a normal office building. She led them ver to a set of elevators, pressing the button to go down.
Florin made sure to study as much as possible around the building once inside, but it was harder to do while moving. He glanced around the elevator once inside, shuffling to the back of it.
“What floor is this exactly on? And where are we going in here?”
She pressed a button with some form of strange symbol on the the metal and a screen popped up. She pulled out a card that had her detail on it, typed in a code and then the elevator started to descend, "That top floor is just a cover for what's actually going on. The bottom floor is where everything really happens."
“Really reminds me of back in Antarctica, then,” Florin muttered. He glanced at the symbol, unsure of what it meant and watched the card. “You really think you’ll be able to find something?”
Ellie sighed, leaning against the wall of the elevator with her arms crossed, “I don’t know. We have some files on alternate universes, it’s a place to start.”
“Alright then. We’ll start there.” Florin himself did not expect to find anything, but who knows? Maybe he could learn something.
“Will we..come across anyone down there?” He asks, giving the side a glance.
She smirked, "Oh yes. But don't worry, they might be bastards but they mean well and probably won't ask too many questions."
“What do you mean by being….bastards?” Florin asked, looking back at her again. He moved his arms into a cross.
Ellie chuckled, "It's an insult, don't worry about it." She shook her head slightly, the elevator pinging and the metal doors sliding open.
“Alright.” His focus moved over to the elevator doors that had just opened. He moved to exit the elevator.
On the other side they were greeted with a full body scan and a bag scan. Ellie smiled and nodded to the security guard on the other side, placing her bag on the conveyor belt as it went through the screening. She walked through the body scan and once she was on the other side, she gestured for Florin to walk through.
Florin glanced at the scan warily, taking a few seconds to look around. It was probably required if he wanted to go past, though. There was some hesitation as he finally walked through towards her.
The detector beeped, a light flashing red but it was quickly shut off. The security guard sighed, "Sir I'm going to have to ask you to take off your.. face guard."
Florin looked at the detector that had just flashed red. The beep had also caught his attention, and he looked towards the guard when they’d spoken.
“Ich..” Florin almost began to speak in German, but he caught himself. He also reconsidered what he was going to say and decided not to. Instead, he recalled what Ellie had said to him before.
“I’m sick. I cannot take it off, as it is highly transmittable via a cough. You wouldn’t want to get sick, would you?” He gave a glance over to Ellie, then returned focus to the security guard. His tone was serious and held no sense of sarcasm whatsoever.
The guard looked like he was about to protest but Ellie spoke up, "It's true, Dan. He can't take it off and I don't want you or anyone else getting sick."
"Does he have to come in with you, though? You know this place isn't allowed to have visitors."
"When have I ever brought an outsider in unless it was important. You know me, I wouldn't just bring him in unless I absolutely have to." She crossed her arms, giving Dan a look that meant, 'You know I'm right.'
Sighing, the other male nodded, "Fine fine, go on through then."
Florin looked in between the two of them. Once things were decided on, Florin continued in his way, glancing back at the security checkpoint before moving towards Ellie again. Florin didn’t say anything, though he was glad that he had at least pretty good memory and was able to remember that conversation they had earlier.
Ellie said goodbye to her friend, grabbing her bag and slinging it over her shoulder and headed deeper into the long hallway before them, "I told you that thing would cause us problems." She mumbled.
“Orders from my superiors prioritize. So do the rules, which are set by them.” He stated in response, before adding something else. “Just be glad I wasn’t wearing TIDAL gear, I’m sure that would’ve caused a lot more problems last night.” Florin kept eyes focused ahead.
She rolled her eyes with a sigh, pushing open a nearby door, "Yeah yeah, I get it." On the other side of the door was a set of desks, maybe fifteen at most, with laptops and files on each. In the back of the room was rows and rows and rows of boxes and files. There were a three people there working and one of them looked up and grinned. A male around the same age as Florin.
"Ayeee, Ellie! Long time now see!"
Ellie rolled her eyes with a smile, "You saw me yesterday."
"Don't care. Who's your friend?"
Following Ellie in, Florin stood slightly behind her, listening to the fairly short conversation. The other man was more than likely to be referring to him, so he responded. “Florin.” He gave a pause, then added. “Hi.”
The gave a two fingered salute back, "Kyle. Nice to meet you bro." Kyle had pale skin and black hair, green eyes that stood out against his skin with a scar on his left cheek, "You're not gonna get a response from Kaitlin or James, they've got their headphones in."
Ellie nodded, glancing at the two people in question, "Well, if we don't get to talk to them before we leave tell them that I say hi and they're losers." The two grinned at each other before Ellie led Florin down to the files.
Florin nodded, noting all of the new names down. He followed Ellie down to the files. “Where are we looking here?”
"Anything about alternative universes." Ellie replied, running her hands along the boxes.
Florin nods in response, looking over to the boxes. He begins to search through them, before something appears in mind. A possible issue, maybe.
Maybe it won’t actually be a big issue. He decides to keep quiet for now and continue looking through the boxes.
