"Look, it's been a long day, and I'm assuming you've had a long one too. For now we both need to rest and we can discuss the situation in the morning," She replied, standing and heading for the kitchen to place her glass away.
"I have a spare room you can use. My brother's old clothes are in there you can change into if you wish."
He looks down slightly. “Sure, yeah. It’s been..” ..Quite the long day.
It’s hard to believe he began this day in the past, and now he’s in the future, most likely in some sort of alternate universe. Well, he would always be ending the day in the future, but several years in the future?
Florin stands up, looking around. It takes him a few seconds before he asks a question. “Where is the spare room?”
Ellie inclined her head, "Follow me."
She led them up to the second story of the house, leading Florin into the spare room. It was fairly nice. A double bed with tables on each side. A lamp on one and a candle with some fake plants on the other. There was a dresser across from the bed, a bunch of random things and books pilled on top, "You can stay here. The bathroom is the second room on the right. My room is the one at the end of the hall."
He nodded, surveying the room as if he had never been in a bedroom before. Well. He hadn’t, technically; at least not one of this condition before. He turns back to her with a nod of silent thanks.
“Have I asked your name yet?” He seems to think. He doesn’t remember if he has, already.
"It's Elliana. Or Ellie," She shrugged a shoulder, "Well I'll leave you to it. If you need anything you know where I'll be." She offered a small smile before leaving, shutting the door on the way out.
This was all so strange, he'd just shown up out of nowhere and now he was going to stay the night? She just needed to sleep and clear her head at this point.
Ellie.
He turned back around again as the door shut and went back to looking around the room. Inside. He was sleeping in a house, for once. Which was strange, but a decent feeling.
Florin blinked, glancing up at the ceiling. He removed his boots; he definitely wouldn't be sleeping in them now that he was inside. Outside, maybe; but on a bed?
He removed anything he considered 'extra' to sleep in, minus the mask. As he's doing this, Florin realizes just how many scars he's accumulated in..just the past year, maybe a little less, over; he didn't know. It wasn't like he was covered, and not all of those scars had long and interesting backstories to them; some of them were from before all of this, from his childhood; like an accidental fall of some sorts. There was one, though, that his hand moved down to; one by his ribcage, if he had to describe it. It was a bit different.
It could've been me.
Florin ignores those thoughts that he's about to have. He's not going through that again. Right now, he just needs some sleep. He gets onto the bed, laying on his back and staring at the ceiling. Sleep won't come easy for him, that's for sure.
As soon as Ellie had shut her door, she flopped onto her bed and groaned into her pillow. What the hell was she thinking? Letting a stranger from another universe stay in her spare room? Yeah, sure, she was totally sane and not going crazy at all. Maybe she needed to get a different job where she didn't deal with this shit on the daily.
Sighing, she got up and changed into her pj's, heading into her bathroom to take off her makeup and such. This was such a crazy situation. Yes, she dealt with the unknown, but the theory of alternative universes was just that, a theory. But clearly Florin had proved that theory correct.
And traveling between them? Her Earth at least didn't have the technology to do that, after all everything in this situation was just theoretical here. But even Florin didn't know how he got here, and that made everything all the more confusing.
Ellie headed back to the bed, climbing under the covers. She didn't sleep for a while, not for a long time.
In the morning, Ellie was up at basically the crack of dawn. She didn't have work today, thank god, but she new she might have to go in, anyway to at least try and get some information on what might have happened.
She didn't bother changing from her pj's, just a pair of loose pants and a tank top as she headed downstairs to grab a coffee. The top of her tattoo's and scars were showing but she didn't give a damn, not this morning.
It was a conflicting statement on whether or not Florin slept well. One statement he would not dwell on for that long.
Florin was up within a few minutes of opening his eyes. Before that, he had been staring up at the ceiling, not doing much of anything. Now though? It was time to get up. He had almost forgotten where he was when he woke up, it seemed all so fast. But he recalled the events of..last night.
Florin debated on whether or not he should bother putting together all of his armour. It was likely to be more of a liability if he put it on, and never ended up needing it in the first place. He’d just keep everything he wasn’t using up here, neatly put away until it was time to retrieve it.
He headed over to the bathroom to give himself a quick rinse over in the sink. You know, just splash some water onto his eyes. As he did that, he paused, looking himself in the mirror. A sharp pain by his ribs had him flinch back slightly, as he realized it was by the area of the scar.
Why…now?
It didn’t last that long, though, nor was it that painful. He had experienced more pain. And the scar was not his focus, either. He dried his hands and gave himself another look over in the mirror, before heading downstairs.
Ellie didn't know whether Florin would want any coffee, but she made him a cup, anyway, leaving it on the counter. She heard him coming down the stairs as she starting making something for them both for breakfast. Ham and cheese croissants. She put them in the oven, taking a sip of her coffee and leaning against the counter as Florin come into view.
"Morning. Coffee is on the counter if you want it." She tilted her head towards the cup, looking up from her own coffee to Florin. It felt strange to not see him in the armor he had been wearing yesterday night, but she had no doubt that he'd put it on again at some point.
Florin gives the coffee a glance, then the nod towards her. He closes his eyes as he speaks. "I appreciate you making the coffee, though I do not drink it myself." Which was true. Never had Florin tried coffee but for one time, and he recalled not enjoying the taste.
He peered over at her, noting what showed of her tattoos and scars, but said nothing of it. It even seemed to remind him of his own wrist, as he looks down at his left wrist, the small set of numbers 6734 displayed on it.
He isn't looking at them for long though as he looks back up at Ellie. "So…What are we..uh.." He fumbled with his words slightly. "..What are the plans for today?"
Ellie ended up finding a bigger cup to pour both cups of coffee into one before taking another sip, "Well, I don't have work today, but I figured it might be best if we head in, see if there's anything in the files that might help explain how you got here."
“Ah..head in? What do you even work as?” Florin asked, giving the side a glance slightly. Would that even be any help? Considering alternate universe and all..Florin decided to keep that to himself for now. He’d bring his thoughts up later if he found it worth mentioning.
The oven dinged and Ellie pulled out the croissants. She took out some plates, placing two on one and sliding it over to Florin, "I work with the government. I'm a… spy, of sorts. I look into the unknown and impossible. So Area 51, stuff like that. Basically I infiltrate governments and agencies to see if they're hiding anything that might be useful to figuring out the universe and what not."
Florin nodded, taking in the words. He wasn’t sure what they’d even accomplish, but then again, he didn’t know much about this world or the events of what was going on in it. He acknowledged the croissants, though did not eat one just yet.
“So what are you going to say to your..coworkers, if we do head in?” It would probably seem odd, seeing someone like Florin walking around in the public. And considering there wasn’t a world war three in this universe, there were bound to be more people around. A thought that had Florin evaluating his options for the future.
Ellie sighed, pushing herself up onto the counter top and turned to face Florin, "I can just say that I forgot something yesterday night and needed to come find it for some project I'm working on, no one's gonna question it. And with your…" She looked him up and down, "You can't just take that thing off for a couple hours? And then put it back on when we come back here?"
Florin lifted his head in thought. “No, I cannot.” He answered her question almost immediately. Couldn’t, or wouldn’t?
“So they won’t question anything at all? Not even me?” He asks.
Ellie shrugged, taking a bite out of the croissant, “Well, they might question it. But we can play it off as you’re sick and need to wear that stupid thing or it’s some form of cosplay.”
It might not work, but then again, this is what her coworkers dealt with so it wouldn’t be the strangest thing they’d ever seen.
He nodded. “Alright. That’s decent enough.” It would have to do, then.
Turning away from Ellie and careful to hide his face from view, he lowers the mask only briefly to take a bite from the croissant, lifting it back up when he turned back around.
“When do we plan to head in?” He questioned.
“As soon as possible. I need to have a shower so probably some time after that.” Ellie finished off her food and her coffee, hoping off from the counter to place her dirty dishes into the dishwasher.
Florin nodded, once again turning away to finish off the rest of his food. The idea of tasting whole; real food was weird to him, and unfamiliar, although he didn’t mention anything of it. It wasn’t an important detail.
He takes a second and stands, wincing in slight but short pain by his ribs again. That scar, that memory. It bothered him from time to time, but there was really nothing Florin could do but wait for it to fade. Phantom pain, probably.
If they’re heading out then, Florin must get ready. He’s about to do that when he pauses, seeming to go blank as he recalls something in the back of his mind.
Ellie was about to head back up the stairs to get showered and changed when she noticed Florin and she narrowed her eyes ever so slightly, "What is it?" She asked, crossing her arms and leaning against the nearest wall.
Florin stood there for a few seconds, thinking. And when he realized, he realized.
“Scheisse.” He muttered, before moving to go outside. How could he have forgotten? Florin may have forgotten something outside; he hoped that it was still there if it even came with him.
"Hey!" Ellie went after him, confusion written over all her features. What was he doing? Clearly whatever he'd forgotten about must have been somewhat important.
Florin didn’t stop as he seemed determined to go after whatever he had remembered. It was important. To him, anyways.
He heads straight outside and towards where he had walked out of last night; the forest. He only stops when he walks into the forest, slowing down to a stop as he seems to step on something. He lowers himself, appearing to pick something off of the ground.
He does pick some things up. One, a bag of some sorts. He’s seen slinging it over his shoulder. Two, something a little different..
Florin stands up, holding something quite large. It only becomes visible to anyone else when he turns back to the house, a large rifle of some sorts in hands.
I’m glad it came with me, even though i don’t remember seeing it with me when I got here. Maybe I was so focused on everything else, I’d forgotten my supplies..
He’s also glad that it was in the forest all night, and stayed unharmed. He seems to zone out, clearly more focused on seeing if the rifle was in truly ‘okay’ condition.
Ellie focused her gaze on the rifle. As much as she liked guns, after all she had one of her own, the rifle was large. Even though this was America and guns were permitted unlike her home country, she didn't think it was a good idea to let Florin walk around holding something like that.
"Florin, let's bring that inside and maybe leave it there for the rest of the day."
