A light smile appeared on her face and she looked down at her lap, hoping that Will wouldn't purposely try to look at her face. "He's right there," She muttered when he was right next to their table, immediately recognizing Rhydar as the guy who had beat him up last night and clearing his throat loudly to get his attention.
Rhydar made a show of slowly taking a large bite of his pancakes, chewing, then swallowing before looking up at Will. "Yo, I think you got a frog in your throat, buddy. Might want to get that checked out." Magnus shot his brother a look, and Kora kept a close eye on the encounter. She, too, could through a good punch if need be.
The show only ticked Will off more and he stayed silent for a moment before talking, "That ain't a frog, buddy, that's me trying not to beat the crap out of you right here and now." He crossed his arms and glared at them, recognising Jynna after a moment as well. "Seriously Jynna? You're sitting here with this twig? I knew you weren't the brightest, but I thought you could hang out with someone better than twig." She stayed silent as Will talked, leg bouncing up and down.
"I think I made it quite clear that this twig," Rhydar gestured to himself, "is quite capable of knocking your ass out. *And," he continued, practically growling, "I'd suggest you leave now before you get your teeth knocked out. Jynna isn't yours, so back off."
"I'm not going anywhere." He growled, rolling his neck, "The only way I'll be leaving is after I knock you out."
Jynna looked up at her ex and glared, "Leave us alone Will, go find someone else to kick around." Having Rhydar and Will fight, all while she was right here made her feel like she was just a prize to be won, and she hated it, knowing that saying anything else could end up badly even if she wanted to say it.
Will rolled his eyes, "Tell twig here to get his hands off you and maybe I will, as far as I'm concerned, you and him are not going to be together i i can help it."
Magnus stood, all muscle and over six feet tall, and glared at Will. "Leave. Now. Or I have the owner do it for us."
Rhydar didn't doubt it. Magnus had a great way with people when it came to pulling favors. Kora was already talking to the cooks and discreetly pointing out Will.
Will took a half step back and studied the new guy, eventually deciding it wasn't worth it, "Fine. Don't get your undies in a bundle new guy. Jynna, you already know what I'm going to say." He glared at her and then at everyone else, storming out of the diner without too much of a show.
"He's a dick." Jynna sighed and shook her head, "Sorry for having to get you guys into this.." She rubbed her arms and scooted closer to Rhydar.
"Mmhmm," Rhydar agreed, tightening his grip on her waist for a second before letting go and finishing his breakfast. Kora passed by with a sympathetic smile tossed Jynna's way, and Magnus sat down with a grunt and also went back to eating. The latter said, "Don't worry about it."
She watched Kora for a minute before standing up and putting her chair back where it went, smiling lightly at them, "Thanks for helping me get rid of him," She turned her attention to Kora and smiled again, "I can get back to work now, thanks as well."
The girl waved it off. "Nah, no need to thank me. It was nice having a go at waitressing again." She took the pencil and notepad and handed them to Jynna. "Here ya go."
Rhydar watched the interaction. "Does he go to the same school as you?" He suddenly asked.
Jynna took the pencil and notepad and tucked them in her back pocket, turning to answer Rhydar's question, "Yeah, he does actually, though I try to avoid him as much as I possibly can." She fixed her ponytail and looked over at the other customers in the diner, already focusing back on her job.
He nodded. "Okay." He acted nonchalant, but his mind was already spinning. Now he had a reason to transfer out of that god-awful school. Maybe he'd make some actual friends and not kiss-asses.
"Well, do you guys need anything else?" She looked at them and smiled lightly, ready to take their plates if they were done. Already there were some new orders to go out and she glanced at the kitchen, guessing at where the food went.
Magnus shook his head. "No, we're good, thank you." He pushed his finished palate towards Rhydar, who took it and set it on top of his own empty plate. Then he bent down and grabbed Lucky's spotless plate.
She nodded, "Alright then, I can go get your bill if you give me a minute." Jynna scooped up the plates and headed to the kitchen, dropping them off and delivering more food to other tables before coming back to their table with their bill in hand.
Rhydar took care of the bill. He pulled out the right amount of cash with a generous tip–and a small note that he had written that morning: His phone number and 'Let's try this again, shall we? ;)'
He slid the cash towards Jynna with the note tucked between the bills. "This should be good."
Picking up the money she counted it quickly, a small smile coming to her face when she saw the note. She glanced at him and nodded slightly, "Alright, it's all here, you guys have a good day." Jynna tucked her tip and the note in her pocket and put the rest of the money in the register where it went. Her eyes darted to them every so often as she went back to work, a small bounce in her step.
Rhydar made a kissy sound at Lucky as he stood, and the dog eagerly got up with her ears perked and butt wiggling again. He chuckled and waved goodbye to Jynna as he and his brother left the diner, Kora trailing after them with a friendly wave as well. They hopped in the truck–Kora helping Lucky in the back before heading to her own car–and drove to Kora's house for a study session.
She waved to them as she left and sighed, rubbing the back of her neck. Her shift lasted until lunch. Just thinking about that, she started counting the hours, knowing afterwards she had the whole afternoon to do whatever she wanted. Jynna got back to work as she thought, very aware of the note in her pocket and itching to be able to call Rhydar.
They arrived at Kora's large but homey house and let Lucky run free for some time. Rhydar offered to keep an eye on her till lunch time, cause there was no way in hell he was studying on a weekend. He found a large stick and started playing fetch with the energetic dog.
Continuing to zip around the diner and only taking a break once the morning rush was over, she started thinking about Will and what would happen if she was alone the next time he found her. The thought terrified her and she tried to block it out of her mind, keeping herself busy by washing dishes and folding silverware in their napkins to pass the time.
I'm bored. Rhydar continued to throw the stick for Lucky, but it was getting redundant. For some reason, that made him think about Jynna. If only he had her full number…
"Well, not much I can do about it now," he muttered to himself, taking the stick from the dog and throwing it as far as he could.
Finally, after what seemed like forever, her shift was done. The other waitress who had the other shift had punched in and Jynna smiled, finishing off the order she was taking now that the lunch rush was coming in before checking out. Her stomach growled loudly and she huffed, heading out to her car and counting her tips for the day. The slip of paper with Rhydar's number was still in the middle of the stack and she smiled happily when she saw it, deciding she could call him while she found a place to eat some food. Getting in her small dark gray car, she pulled out her phone and started typing in his number to call him, taking a break while she decided where she could go to eat.
His cell rang, and he answered it without much thought. "Yo." Lucky can back with the stick, panting but refusing to lie down.
"Hey there, is this Rhydar?" She said with a small smile, leaning back on her seat and looking at the piece of paper with his number. Her stomach growled loudly again and she bit her lip, hoping it wasn't audible to him over the phone.
