THAT SUCKS
i'm sorry for your loss
At 23 Seo Hyeon Youn had graduated from college in Korea, publishing a few books actually while she was working at a lousy clothing store, that actually wasnt lousy at all and it paid well, but her co-workers were brats, she was just lucky her boss loved her. Getting asked out far too many times, all of them far too emotional afterward, and even a proposal from a guy she met four weeks prior. Not having any lovers, serious or not, a good amount of friends, yet a crappy roommate who hated CC just as much as she hated flowers. And apparently, she hated them alot. That was only last year though.
She had a different roommate every year, which sure was interesting.
One tried to sleep with her, the other a social little butterfly who was too much for even her to handle, a sweet quiet girl, though emotional for her third year. It sure was an interesting ride, but she was ready to leave.
She had majored in writing, which was technically her heaven, but she was quite lonely.
It had just become winter as she was ready to move back to America. And overall she was excited about it.
Though she would have to work on her English alot more since she didn't use it much here in Korea.
Traveling back was harder than normal due to the weather, and she got mugged, well……an attempted mugging. She had pulled a gun on him once he tried to attack her with a knife. She carries her handgun everywhere now.
Settling back into America, in the town that she went to high school in, the family was one of the most important things to her, and it was already hard enough for her to leave her mom, her boyfriend and even her brother who was in a mental ward.
And still was (as far as she knew). Living in an apartment building and now working at a cute little coffee shop, her hair growing out again, only down to her waist, still snowy white, her white freckles showing more than she liked in the cold.
The coffee shop was apparently more busy in the winter, which she could see why.
It was nice and warm, and it smelled of sweet coffee.
She even met up with her friend that she had ever since she was little, Ryuu Wakazashi, who came to the coffee shop every day to talk to her. Things were going good, with only a few things on her mind that was bothering her.
She wondered how Metaphorical Whembrooke was doing. Happy to think he pursued his dream, he probably didn't care about her anymore, which she had already accepted. Its been so long, she was just glad to think he was doing well.
(the sad thing was, is that is was so much longer but my fingers hurt so much XD)
The brightness of snow on his windowsill woke him one morning before his cat or his alarm could. He sat up slowly out of his bed with a faint groan at his aching bones. Old problems still haunted him, to his joints that were probably going to kill him when he's forty and his cluttered closet, which had fallen open again in the middle of the night, spreading old belongings everywhere. He stood out of his stiff, queen sized bed and stretched his legs, rolling his ankles and shoulders, which were always tired. Like, always.
Today he had a day off because it was Christmas Eve. That's probably why his alarm hadn't woken him and instead the sun did. He opened his curtains and squinted into the sun, running his hand through his hair. He already felt ten years older than his twenty-three year old self, and had the problems of someone who should be retired. But he also had a lot of problems that people in his generation had, but he had a nice job with good benefits… so not so much.
He was someone to be taken advantage of nowadays. He had good money, (as stated before) good benefits and a famous brother who could always help him out. Neo literally sent him a check for a thousand bucks because he forgot about that one time Met gave him a couple bucks for a soda. It was a bit ridiculous. He spent it on his rent and groceries, but it was nice, because he was able to treat coworkers to a nice bonfire.
While a few females in his section of detectives clearly had their eye on him, and a couple had approached him randomly from a few coffee shop drops (and don't even make him mention his college days), he wasn't interested.
He sat down in his living room and looked out the window to the glistening, bustling streets of the city and sighed. He wasn't sure what was wrong with him. So many nice, beautiful women were interested in him. It was something someone his age would be over his head in happiness about. But he wasn't happy at all.
Waking up early to the sun shining into her window, shining into her eyes, she looked at the time and jumped out of bed, getting dressed in her normal big sweater and her cute skirt that she would wear whenever she would work at the coffee shop, and she happened to have to work on christmas eve, thank goodness she didnt have to work tomorrow, but right now…..
SHE HAD TO GET TO WORK
The coffee shop was close enough for her not to drive and she felt like she would probably crash with how tired she was adding it with the sense of panic filling her lungs as decided it would be safer to just walk, or run as her hair flew in the light breeze as she did, snowflakes sticking to her face.
(what if she passes his house as hes looking out the window? And sorry its not longer, again my fingers are cramping up from typing so much. Lol)
(Sure imean if she works in the city that's good with me)
Met opened the window itself and leaned out into the chilly cold air, sighing deeply as snowy flecks jammed themselves into his hair. He was sort of shirtless so he got cold pretty fast, but he didn't care as he leaned out of the apartment window and looked down. So many people were passing, most bundled up and laughing with a random stranger they bumped into because of the slippery conditions. But one person caught his eye. It couldn't be just one flapping sheet of snow, it was hair. He squinted a little, wishing he had put on his glasses. He knew someone years ago who had hair like that. Hair so long it reached her waist and it shimmered just like the snow he was elbow-deep in on the sill of his window. He was suddenly running out of the apartment, barely grabbing his jacket and shutting his door as he ran down flights of steps. Thank the stars he was active or he wouldn't be able to hare after her, through people.
"CC! Er… Seo-Hyeon!"
As she ran through the bundles of people, the cold air making her cheeks and nose rosy red as her vanilla eyes squinted through snowflakes as they made their way into her eyes. Hearing her name in the distance, but…..CC? Nobodys called her that in so long. She didnt go by that in Korea, and that voice.
Twirling around on her heal as her hair danced in the wind as her eyes widened at the sight of the man in front of her.
Someone passing her, bumping her in the shoulder as she fell to the ground, her cute Christmas sweater and her skirt getting covered in snow.
"Oh, Golly…"
She says as she slumps down in the cold snow, giving up on running to work, just….giving up as she let out a sigh, blowing white hair out of her face, totally forgetting about the random man who called after her.
Met ran past her and slammed on his brakes, only to flop onto the ground and also getting covered in snow, ruining his comfy sweatpants and soaking his slightly exposed chest in snow. He stood and brushed himself off, hurrying over to her and looking down at her. It couldn't be her, but why would he run out to her like this? He kneeled down and took a good look at her face after brushing his own snowy, tangled hair out of his eyes.
"Seo-Hyeon? Are-are you…?" He trailed off, not entirely sure what to ask. He hadn't seen her in years. But it had only been four. The impact of how slow time traveled hit him with the force of a train.
Sitting up with a sigh,
"골리, 왜 그렇게 서투른해야합니까!? 나는 늦게 일할 거야 그리고 지금 내 상사는 나에게 소리질러 갈거야! 선!"
She says to herself before looking up.
"Seo Hyeon Youn, yes, I apolag-"
She was cut off as she looked up at him, covering her mouth and looking down, then looking back up at him with her usual big eyes.
"Met?"
She says with a little smile. She couldn't BELEIVE this. She had run into him on her way to work on a snowy day, she was definitely going write this down while she was procrastinating at work, but right now…….. she had something far more important.
"Seo?" He repeated her name, suddenly smiling. He hadn't smiled in months, hell, almost a year. He grabbed her hands gently and helped her up, looking down at her. She was still as short as he remembered, not that it was a bad thing.
He wasn't sure what he should do with her. Should he hug her? Kiss her? He hadn't hugged or kissed anyone since she had left him four years ago. He suddenly realized how sad that was, with all of the emotions cascading down on him. He was really lonely without her to keep him company. He missed her so much in those four years.
"오, 이런!!! 그것의 당신!? 왜 여기 있어요? 오 기다려, 미국에서 메신저 …."
She rambles on in Korean, still not used to speaking in English once she was surprised.
"oh golly, im so sorry i wasnt speaking English."
She says as she nervously laughs, then throwing herself around him. He was still just as tall as he was four years ago if not taller. Or she shrunk. Wrapping her arms around him, but then pulling away,
"oh im so sorry….. its just…."
She says bitting her cold bottom lip looking away.
Met laughed with her, having no idea what she just said. He went to hug her back, hungry for any type of affection right now, only to step back awkwardly and rub the back of his neck and look away, too.
"Did you want to come inside with me? Have a cup of coffee or tea? Then I can take you to wherever you're going…" He suggested, hoping it wasn't too up front.
"OH! OH GOLLY"
She says looking around with a sigh then looking at him again. She missed him so much, she wanted to hug him all day as he talked to her about how the last three years had been
"i need to go to work! The coffee shop! Uh see ya later?"
She says turning around to run to work as she slipped on the slick sidewalk falling down again.
"could you…..take me?"
She says looking down at her red hands. Of course, this was how they first met again after four whole years, whole seas apart.
He watched her run and slip again, moving after her and helping her up to her feet again. "Work… right. On Christmas Eve? Are you sure you still have work today? Even I'm off, Seo, and I'm a police detective," He tried to reason with a meek smile. He felt really frustrated with her trying to leave again, but he pushed that down again. They could get together some other time. He wasn't about to be some creepy guy who insists on trying to hang out with an ex-girlfriend.
"Anyway, yeah. I could take you. I'd have to grab my keys and maybe put on an actual outfit."
"im so sorry! I can just go…. and yeah, its at the coffee shop and apparently we make alot of money on Christmas eve, so yeah us workers gotta……..do what we gotta do. And its fine, i have nothing going on for like…..the next five years, so i dont mind"
She says pointing finger guns at him with a little laugh.
"BUT HEY! Maybe we hang out sometime…….soon?"
She says nervously, hoping he wouldnt say no.
"Oh, yeah, I get it. I barely got off today so I understand." They actually made him take off on the holiday because he worked so much, but he wasn't about to say that. He smiled a small, half-hearted smile at her finger guns.
"Oh, I'd like to hang out. I live just up there on the third floor, room seventeen, so if you wanna just come by and see my cat or something, you can."
"oh, okay"
She got a little sad hearing about his cat, remembering hers. Phoebe had died two years ago, and it was actually quite hard on her. But she was doing fine.
"uh, I was thinking going out or something like that……"
She says fiddling her thumbs together looking up at him.
"Oh, yeah." He had become a lot more of an introvert after college. He had spent so much time indoors that it just kind of stuck with him, and he enjoyed whatever he was doing there. And a lot of people stared at his tall self whenever he was out and about so he tried to avoid it.
"I guess we could…"
"okay, if you dont want to we dont have to. But um…. you still have my number so….hit me up!"
She gave him a cheesy smile and a wink as she whipped around, her hair flying in her face as she dashes towards the coffee shop, bursting through the door (not litterally) and begins profusely apolagizing at her head was faced down to the floor, huffing all of the air in and out of her lungs as she could.
"its fine, you were only about 5 minutes late"
Her boss came out, a rather scary looking girl, her beauty was also intimidating, but dont let that fool you, she was as sweet as a sugar, honey iced tea.
"Alright I thought I was gonna-…" He trailed off. She was gone. He sighed and went back up to his apartment, where he shut the open window and shivered, looking down at his meowing cat, who had been woken up by him flying out of his house. He shut the curtains again and fed his cat before going to go take a shower. He might as well go out and go people watching or something. No… maybe not. The people would end up watching him.
"okay….but im still very sorry."
She says fixing her hair as she stands behind the counter, plastering on a sweet smile.
A tall Asian man about 6'3 walked in, red brown hair with freckles covering his face, peircing blue eyes beaming down at CC with a smile.
"Hey, i didnt know it was ugly sweater day!"
He says with a laugh
"Hey! I thought it was cute!"
She says looking down at her sweater, red with a little raindeer, red and green flashing lights lighting up on the antlers with the shiny red nose.
"It is. Anyway! Could i have the usual?"
He says with a smile as he ran his fingers through his curly hair, a sweater on himself, just a plain tan one.
"Cold brew caremel chocolate, lots of whip cream, oh and extra chocolate?"
She says with a cheesy smile
"yep!"
He says handing her a ten
"keep the change"
He says looking around the coffee shop wondering where he should sit, deciding to sit down in his normal spot by the fireplace,
"ill get that right to you!"
Met sat on his bed after his shower, running a comb through his hair and trying his best to straighten it. He hoped he could still set something up with Seo. Maybe he ruined it and was bound to be lonely for the rest of his life. Would he be surprised like, at all? No, not really. He sighed and laid back, staring up at the ceiling. It was going to be a long few hours of waiting for something to happen. He sort of wished someone would break in just so he'd have someone to talk to. But maybe he should actually go outside for once.
He sat up and got dressed, putting his hair up into a comfy hat he found for clearance at a pawn shop and his coat. He stroked his cat's head then went out, his hands in his pockets as he just looked around and started walking. Who knew? Maybe he'd meet someone new. There were plenty of people running around with last minute shopping anyway. He turned his feet down to the less busy part of town and looked around, going into a cute boutique-type of store. A woman about two heads taller than Seo appeared, wearing a fashionable scarf and beanie, sort of pullover look that technically belonged in the fall. But Met liked it anyway.
"Hi! Welcome to Grace's!"
Making the coffee she stepped out of behind the counter holding the coffee on the tray along with a slice of nutella cake, a little gift from her, he technically paid for it anyway, making her keep the change.
Walking up to Ryuu, (the Asian dude) she set the tray on the table, looking down at him with a smile as he had his computer out, his big round glasses pushed up on the bridge of his nose, which was also covered in freckles. Flashing a white smile at her, trying not to act stressed. He wasnt about to lay all of her problems on her. She just cams back from Korea after all
"Hi. I was just looking around and I noticed the store wasn't busy. Like… at all." He laughed softly, though rubbed the back of his neck. He apparently liked making a fool of himself, too.
Though the woman laughed and waved her hand. "That's normal for us. We're almost never busy. Since this part of town isn't really inhabited, but we get some tourists sometimes!" She tried to cover up her ploy.
"Oh! Sure, sure. So what's your name?" He asked her nonchalantly, moving off of the subject of the failing business.
"Oh, I'm Grace. I'm the owner and one of the only people who work here." She smiled. She had a nice, white smile, even though her teeth were just the slightest bit crooked. Her brown eyes sparkled up at him as he smiled back. He felt more relaxed than he had in a while. What was going on?
