"If I recall correctly, it's partially because I'm the best spokesperson they had on hand," Alexa responded thumbing through the file for the page, "And it's also the company's 'wedding gift' to us. Free honeymoon per say."
"If I recall correctly, it's partially because I'm the best spokesperson they had on hand," Alexa responded thumbing through the file for the page, "And it's also the company's 'wedding gift' to us. Free honeymoon per say."
"Fantastic," he grumbled. "The System must really love us. A honeymoon present." He scowled. "They seriously need some fucking class."
"Honestly," Alexa agreed rolling her eyes, "So be ready for questions along those lines at the party."
He shrugged. "Fine. Does it say anything about our relationship with the owners of our company?"
"Said we're close. College friends I believe," Alexa responded finding the page, "That's why they were comfortable giving this to us. I mean, who wouldn't want a free trip to New York."
"I know right?" He gave a sarcastic laugh."Because this hellhole is a wonderful place to be." He shook his head. "Is there anything online about us?"
"Not much," Alexa responded with a shrug. She had a slight mischievous look in her eyes, "Which means we get a lot of creative liberty when it comes to how they act."
"Fantastic." He shrugged. "It could be an arranged marriage. Those happen all the time." He ran his hand through his hair again.
"It could," Alexa responded as she swayed her head back and forth, "Except the one constant was that we actually, ugh, loved each other."
He fake-retched. "Ugh. Great." He shook his head in annoyance.
Alexa rolled her eyes at his little retching, "Yeah, yeah. It's not ideal, but it's what we got. Now you tell me something about our identities. It feels like an interrogation rather than a conversation."
"I don't know anything about them. I payed attention to other things. Like the layout of the place. And the shifts of guards. And who exactly to talk to."
"Okay, then tell me who we need to talk to," Alexa responded crossing her arms and popping her hip out to one side.
He sighed, looking up at the ceiling. "A lot of people. Marcus Clint and Draven Wolfe, for one thing, their cheif of security, Lorcan Dillard, their secretaries, Melody and Karen Ashiva, lots of people."
"Love that," Alexa responded making a slight face. She let out a sigh, "So can I see a layout of the place, considering I'm probably the one that can sneak away from the party easier."
"Sure." He popped open his laptop and showed it to her. It was large, with every single little detail outlined clearly.
Alexa stopped and studied the map leaning in slightly to take it all in. She took a few moments before leaning back, "Okay, got it memorized."
"That fast?" He couldn't keep the disbelief from his voice.
"Yeah," Alexa nodded looking up at Arsen with a slight smirk on her face, "What? Jealous?"
"No. Surprised that a Lowslum can read." He had regained his sauntering, arrogant facade fast.
Alexa felt her rage bubble up once more. She kept it contained, but there was an edge to her voice, "I can read just fine. Probably better than you can."
"I dunno, sweetheart," he drawled. "Where'd you learn to read?"
"Mi familia," Alexa responded slightly glaring at Arsen, "They taught me how to read in Spanish and mi hermanos helped me with the transition to English. School did the rest."
He snorted. "Fantastic. I'm so proud. I bet they are, too."
"Shut up," Alexa stopped herself from snarling at him. He didn't understand the life she lived up until that point and probably never would. Because of the move she never had a stable place to learn the basics, but thankfully her familia kept her up with the rest of the peers and then some. She wasn't stupid, and neither were they.
